Texas Recruiting Notes 2025: Duck Around and Find Out
closetojumping replied to texifornia's topic in 🤫$9.95🤫
I agree. The bizarre thing to me is that this is clearly believed by the staff when it comes to the OL. I’m sure it’s intellectually understood regarding DL too, but I will argue it ends there until we see recruiting and portal results otherwise. -

I hope not. There has to be something more interesting than that one. -
Texas Recruiting Notes 2025: Duck Around and Find Out

I realize a lot of you guys seek analogs for comfort and that’s human nature and all, but monetary priorities in CFB don’t totally square with those of the NFL and they never will. TBs aren’t prioritized in the NFL due to lifetime value and the bullets TBs take in college. CFB powers have hoarded and coveted elite TBs because are a core power source for high octane offenses and can also lock games up at the end. CFB coaches need not worry about overuse and burn out at TB. Worth it. That said, do you guys not understand that the DT market in aggregate commands way more spend than any spots besides QB, OT, and CB in the NIL arena? Outside of the top 5 WRs and top DEs, DT through the top 25-30 nationally outstrips those positions and, frankly all the rest besides QB. That last part is what the UT staff, from intel gatherers and budget owners like Harris and crew up to Sarkisian aren’t getting. Two things happened yesterday - 1) Oregon decided to offer seven figures to a DT. That’s unprecedented and whiners on here are fucking clueless about how this works if they’re still bitching knowing that. 2) Sarkisian and company received some really bush league assurances from their staff about where things stood with Charles’ camp. That’s on All Offense, No DT Steve for how he’s handled his roster-building staff with the departure of some folks who weren’t always yes men. Maybe that’s less “impressive” to Brandon Harris fanbois and Steve DTlessian, but oh well. -

Sarkisian wouldn’t let Texas recruit Byron Murphy out of high school if he were a recruit in this cycle. That’s just a fact based on the guys he’s nixed pushing for over the least 3 cycles. He’s a metrics whore specifically on defense. 1) you don’t seem to understand how the classes have been built versus rankings. 2) they’ve finished top 5-6 every year under Sarkisian and the gap is usually the 3+ bodies that others took that Texas did not. 3) Texas NIL is way out in front of most programs. That’s simply not true when someone is willing to move to Eugene and Oregon wants them. that is going to be true for everyone. 4) as has always been stated, if someone besides Oregon shows up and goes bezerk for a particular player, there’s not much anyone dealing with this and understanding the longer term approach is going to do about it if there is a viable set of alternative candidates. that’s usually true. QB position might not square with this always. -

There has never been a moment from day 1 of NIL in which Oregon has not been caveated if a player wants to live in Eugene. They have access to billions while Knight is alive. Whatever they came in with, it was so far out of the realm of reason that they didn’t even ask Texas to counter. Bama was out already. -

The Hi yesterday means that Sharma probably told all of the coaches. The earlier stuff, all schools still didn’t know where he was headed. So maybe the one yesterday, otherwise all of them are something else. The big development this week was the ultimately Bama had to admit that they needed a substantial Nick Saban discount without having Nick Saban. -

That duroc poster is 84+ years old and he’s admonishing the board for not being good, supportive and loyal ags, doing whatever the school and AD demands. I really hope that isn’t a dying breed. We need many more just like him. -
It’s 12.

There's a rumor out there that a big aggie-backed select organization out of Katy has informed all levels of players and their parents that are no longer allowed to visit UT or consider them in their recruiting process. I laughed out loud. If you are a parent and you take that threat seriously, or continue to play for that org, you are a fucking imbecile.

Schlossed and confused: When panic leads to an Earley hire
closetojumping replied to GreenspointTexas's topic in Baseball
I've started thinking that we'll know they might actually win something when some guy is recruited in and refuses to do any of that shit. "I'm not an aggie. I'm not here to learn 'yells'. I came here to win football games and titles for you guys, and you're paying me well to do it. Now let me coach, and stop pressuring me to 'become' an aggie." If I heard someone say that to them as an HC, I might get worried.- 3777 replies

Texas Recruiting Notes 2025: Duck Around and Find Out
closetojumping replied to texifornia's topic in 🤫$9.95🤫
It's a confluence of a few events and one reality. Bo Davis knocked Sarkisian's dick in the dirt by getting Zion Williams to cancel the Texas OV. Then some other targets that Texas had confidence in made it clear they were heading elsewhere. Then the mom is bragging about Bo Davis on Brown's OV to Texas. So something has to give somewhere, and anyone who thinks Sarkisian lacks ego and doesn't take it personally with the Bo Davis stuff is kidding themselves. Beyond that, the reality is that a good NIL offer from Texas is overmatching what poor clown SEC institutions can muster. For Charles, there's also a depth in the class issue at FSU. Texas held its water when OU and Auburn went nuts at DT last cycle. That was manageable until Robinson begged off after Davis split for Baton Rouge. I was talking to a buddy involved at Bama and then later a buddy involved nationally. Bama is facing some serious Sophie's Choice cases heading into the 24-25 roster/recruiting cycle. LSU is a fucking joke. I look forward to watching them squawk more and bitch about CFB these days. But hey, sure, you got Zion Williams by getting his girlfriend financial benefits to attend and shit. Hope they stay together forever and such. -
I've seen that kind of shitty behavior in crowds. Sorry it happened to you. Thanks for recounting.

To be clear, if Charles, Sharma, or Brown go anywhere else, they're doing so in spite of considerably better NIL options at Texas. They'd have to really, really, love another option. -
For the younguns, to build on the quoted post, Mack Brown brutally misunderstood the rivalries Texas has with all three asshole universities - OU, Arkansas, ATM. He never figured out that Texas needed to bring the same level of insanity to the Cotton Bowl that OU did, and that he needed to be treating that game as special throughout the year. It led to 4 truly embarrassing blowouts and multiple other devastating defeats. Dude never figured that game out. He got to campus and pushed to have the Arkansas rivalry renewed, so that got us the home/away in the early 2000s. He thought, as a CFB fan, that would be a "fun" match-up. The 2000 Cotton Bowl gave him a taste of just how "fun" that match-up is when Arkansas showed up amped to the gills and Texas viewed it as just another bowl game. Embarrassment ensued and he somewhat learned his lesson with that one. Beating ATM at home in 1998 created a false sense of security for Mack regarding how the aggies viewed the game. The 1998 game played in front of a jam-packed house waiting to see Ricky set the record. The ATM fanbase showing allegedly surprised Mack in terms of how lightly they had traveled. So, come 1999, he took for granted that ATM would treat Texas well. The guy and the team were in total shock at how poorly they were treated from beginning to end. Couldn't believe the aggies gave Texas and Mack zero credit for the "class" Texas showed after the bonfire collapse. Allegedly, Mack at least learned the lesson with ATM. I don't think Texas stayed in or near BCS again after 1999. With Sarkisian, it's been a little bit of a painful mirroring, honestly. He flunked his debut against Arkansas almost as poorly as Mack did. He hasn't seemed to figure out the notion of scheming and prepping for OU a little bit year round. That's disappointing and has him sporting a 1-2 record thus far. As to ATM? I don't know how in the fuck the guy is going to whiff on that one. He has to know, and has to have the team prepared for, the fact is that this upcoming game on 11/30 will be the closest thing to an on-the-field jihad from a band of psychos that the sport of CFB has ever seen.

He doesn’t love football, he thinks he’s a safety and he isn’t, and he’s going to cost a fuckton in NIL. Let OU or ATM waste their money for the borderline 5 star ranking. -
2024 Spring Practice to Fall Camp Thread - Who’s a JAG now?
closetojumping replied to sith_horn's topic in Football
If you read their breakdown of its “success” and then how they handle transfers, the former raises eyebrows and then the latter rolls the eyes. Regarding “success” of the ratio being a forecaster of success, they include Michigan from last year, whose ratio was like .54 and one or more of the Clemson teams whose ratios were also below .60. Conveniently, for the number to be “debunked”, someone would need a number below .50. Okay then. On transfers, they basically say it hasn’t mattered and would be a lot of work to change. Then they laud all of the media services and talking heads who use the numbers as gospel. The truth is that it’s an easy story each cycle to digest and then pontificate upon and that’s what works with the idiots in sports media. I went through yesterday while listening to a conference call and did ATM’s quick and dirty real numbers and they’re like a .45 for this season. It’s wildly off from the posted numbers. That doesn’t help ATM at all, btw. If they don’t post a great w/l ratio this year, they’re going to be harshly mocked for “not developing talent” like the others with high numbers. One other thing is that I am not even sure if they use a composite system. I think they just use the 247 independent rankings because both groups are CBS subsidiaries. If my memory is correct and that is true, it makes the “data” even more flawed. -

It doesn’t account for attrition and it ignores incoming transfer replacements. Half the blue chips or more that ATM, for instance, is getting credit for are now playing elsewhere, like sweet and levelheaded Chris Marshall, who is now at Boise State. -
@RGBIII this has to be a relative, right? I think the guy is fine. He’s going to have his own POV but he’s fine defending it, even we’re all laughing. He’s not just on here flaming and trolling, as of now.

Texas Recruiting Notes 2025: Duck Around and Find Out
closetojumping replied to texifornia's topic in 🤫$9.95🤫
I wouldn't read into Texas not getting those guys because they've been moved to "maybe". Regarding Petitjohn, it looks like it comes down to whether or not Texas feels like they've flipped Faraimo. If they don't see it, they will likely make a major push to close Petitjohn. Might be wrong, but it's reading like that, and that Ohio State has made a big push for Petitjohn and that entails having to step up on NIL to get him. On Fasusi, he's the OT version of Dominick McKinley from a "does he love football" end of things. OU's hosts took him out at night and did some wild shit and that has him enamored. Texas wants the dude regardless and there is UT support in his camp. I think landing Brooks is a big fucking deal if they do that, and that would offset a Fasusi loss. You'd like to have both, no doubt. Fasusi is good enough to still wind up in the NFL even if he's got higher priorities than pancaking DEs. I think the Rogers recruitment gets really interesting if Fasusi really starts trending away from Texas. -
Unlimited Breadsti…On-Field Coaches Allowed Immediately
closetojumping replied to TheStoicPaisano's topic in Football
Not many posts on here but the quality of them is high. I think you guys are looking this correctly in that: 1) At some point, too many is a risk. 2) It removes the "but can he recruit?" question for key staff. If you've got bad ass recruiters, let a nerdy coordinator, you know, coordinate. 3) For sure thinks this leads to improved special teams from the more progressive programs. 4) Many schools will have to make hard choices about paying additional staff or pushing more into NIL. Won't impact Texas or Ohio State and some others, but will many of them. I think we'll see more micro-positional focus such as IOL and OT specific coaches with one of them being the head OL coach. I could also see a micro staff of 3-4 guys for some rosters working with the 3rd and 4th string players on more specialized development. As the season hits, those guys can wind up just being ground up or ignored and this might help offset that for forward-thinking programs. -

Bill Superman is one of the more hilarious, unaware, and unhinged posters they have. I love it. The funniest part about all of these takes on integrity and doing things the right way is that ATM has, repeatedly, cheated throughout its history. They just signed and destroyed the last and greatest bagman class of all time. They just did this and are reaping their just desserts from it, and yet that is lost on them as they speak indignantly about a guy taking a job for another entity for a better environment and more money - something that happens all over this country everyday.
