Texas Recruiting Notes 2025: Duck Around and Find Out
closetojumping replied to texifornia's topic in 🤫$9.95🤫
Regarding MTerry, the problem for Oregon is ... well ... Oregon. They can't move Eugene any closer and they can't make the weather drier or warmer. So what is Knight's offer? Double the money + and then free utilization of private jets? Move the family all there? Whatever the case here, the Oregon offer is substantially bigger the Texas' on the money end. What's the kicker got to be to win that recruitment for the ducks and Knight? If they don't have that sorted, I assume Texas moves the needle to get closer and wins the effort. -

It's not helpful when you form your thesis on unfounded assumptions and then dig your heels in when challenged. You haven't done the work to understand how the prior bag game black market worked, and you haven't done the work to understand how NIL currently works now and the differences between the two. I tried to help. I wrote extensively on the bag game at Barking Carnival. I helped Yahoo on a story about it with Lache Seastrunk, Willie Lyles, Chip Kelly and Oregon, albeit indirectly, and that story was published and went viral. I've written extensively about the black market and NIL on this board and Shaggy for more than a decade. All you had to do was read along and have some humility about who knows what in a reader/writer relationship. Instead, you've surface-skimmed info and articles when it suits you, ignored facts slapping you in the face on this site, and just assumed your wicked intellect would uniquely take you to the correct conclusion while "they" just didn't get it. This subforum literally possesses the source code creators for what is now the blueprint for how collectives function. That source code was crafted in the fires of rampant cheating, via 10-ish players mostly across the southeast, as a means of destroying it once the NIL gates were unlocked. With a plan and a willingness to take serious risks in the process, we kicked the fucking gate open and it's been a blast for most of us ever since. Nothing is asked of folks here except to avoid doing exactly what you are doing. You can have your own opinions, but you don't get to have your own facts. Now fuck off. -

Gerry is reporting that Oregon, with Phil Knight personally involved, has made a huge offer to Michael Terry. Awesome. -

From Georgia 247 mods below. They seem to view JTerry as a given and bizarrely mention Texas as creeping into the McLeod recruitment. I think they're mixing some things up, but who knows: Benjamin Wolk Today is a day when a lot of things go down, so there's likely to be changes before I finalize my mock class late tonight. But here's the intel on what we've heard about the remaining position groups with ongoing intrigue: -Running back: There has been some chatter about a potential third back, whether that be Jamarion Morrow or Anthony Rogers. Rogers has been trending to OSU since he decommitted from Alabama. Morrow took official visits to Georgia and A&M this fall. It's A&M who has the most buzz this late in the process coming off his visit there last weekend. There's been ongoing communication with Georgia, but the Aggies are who I predict to pull off that flip. -Offensive line: I'm not anticipating an add here, but there are a few in-state OL who fit the mold that the Bulldogs are still speaking with in the final hours. -Defensive line: This is where the most movement is going to be this week, and there are three names — Justus Terry, Kevin Wynn, Jeramiah McCloud. I continue to think this is a 2-out-of-3 situation. Terry doesn't decide until Friday, however (though the Dawgs might get answers before the general public), so that makes for an interesting debate on how to handle the other two. My sense is Georgia has put more recruiting energy into Wynn in the final stages. While McCloud has been viewed as a gimme for Georgia for weeks, Florida is still around and Texas has snuck in here late to keep it competitive. There's some optimism around Florida holding onto McCloud. I'm told this one has gotten more interesting than expected late. Wynn is a Georgia, FSU, SC battle. If it wasn't for Georgia being Georgia and the in-state pull for a top DL, I'd favor FSU holding on or an SC flip based on the intel I've gotten around Wynn's interests. That said, Georgia wants those big interior DL bodies and think that's why he's taken precedent over some of the other DL options Georgia offered late. It's too early too call who would be my second DL add beside Terry in the mock tonight. -Linebacker: It's Tavion Wallace or Christian Gass. Wallace seems more likely based on his connection to the program he's committed and how often he visited Georgia games. Flipping Gass given his relationships there and the season Tennessee put forth with its defense makes that one a tough sell late. -Defensive back: Everyone wants a big DB splash, whether that be Lagonza Hayward, DJ Pickett or Dijon Lee. I'm not likely to have any of those names in my final mock, however. If there's another DB name being kept quiet should they miss on all of them, I'm not aware of it at this time. Spending the rest of the day getting answers for the mock and prepping for tomorrow. -

They like January and Hills. Charles, should he come, is a high quality recruit. Outside of that, you're hoping Mitchell stays, they hang onto Sharma, then land a surprise recruit and land 3+ guys who are ready to play from the portal, including a difference maker. -

The obvious answer is the meteoric rise of Cam Williams, no? Unless something is coming totally out of left field, things are in good shape with all 3 you mentioned. You guys go immediately to the negative too quickly. -
Hudson is gone already and being actively recruited. Next week's official opening of the portal is a mere formality. ATM is allegedly making a big push. I thought the guy was overrated, severely, as a recruit, and want nothing to do with him at Texas. He does not possess an elite skill. He's also a lying shitheel, so I'll be cheering against him, wherever he lands. Maguire and his staff got cute in how they handled Hudson during his recruitment, having him do shit with Texas staff and report back, talking shit about Texas in group texts. Both folks are easy to root against. The most predictable thing about Hudson going to Tech is that Tech would absolutely fuck it up and not meet the ridiculous expectations that the player had in showing up. It's comical. Couldn't happen to a better group.

This is the most anyone has written about a punter in a single post in the 27 years I've been reading the boards. It's not every day that you get to see a first, so thank you for that, sir. It's doable. You don't have to match that or come very close. You need a guy willing to bet on himself that, if he comes back for a fraction of that and produces, he'll have a shot at a 2nd or 3rd round grade. Get paid now and then get paid substantially better with another year. It has worked for multiple players, so he might be one of the next candidates. I agree that relying on portal players for any position is tenuous. So does the staff. Everyone would rather be building off of a strong foundation of productive HS talent. Even prevalent positions in the portal like QB are fraught with peril. Someone is going to bust at some point and lacking depth is going to hurt. FSU with DJU this year (and several other position groups, frankly), is a cautionary tale in this light. -

Bledsoe's gone, so we can classify him as a bust. Bryant has ... not been good this year. I'll cling to the same hope as you and maybe something develops there. Mitchell is another one that may or may not be at Texas a week from now. If he sticks, he's crossing over into the territory where we might wind up having a player. -
Posted this just now in the aggie recruiting thread, but here's some more and a miscount somewhere: Looking back at The Greatest Recruiting Class of All-Time, HOLLAAAA!!!!: Walter Nolen - gone Evan Stewart - gone LT Overton - gone Denver Harris - gone Jacoby Mathews - gone Anthony Lucas - gone PJ Williams - gone Jake Johnson - gone Smoke Bouie - gone Marquis Groves-Killebrew - gone Chris Marshall - gone Bobby Taylor - gone Ish Harris - gone Ethan Moczulski - gone Shemar Stewart - stayed - draft pick Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy - stayed -bust, rumored to be leaving in winter 2024 window Conner Weigman - stayed - bust, rumored to be leaving in winter 2024 window Enai White - stayed - bust, rumored to be leaving in winter 2024 window Bryce Anderson - stayed Kam Dewberry - stayed - dude had one snap on Saturday Le'Veon Moss - stayed Malick Sylla - stayed - 60 snaps this season Donovan Green - stayed -got fat and slow after being hurt, getting married. rumored to be leaving in winter 2024 window Hunter Erb - stayed - 11 snaps this season Martrell Harris - stayed? - Zero snaps this season. Maybe he left? Theo Melin Ohrstrom - stayed Jadon Scarlett - stayed - 8 snaps all year Jarred Kerr - stayed - 35 snaps all year Noah Thomas - stayed Mark Nabou - stayed 14/30 gone with more leaving shortly. Moss, Nabou, Ohrstrom, Anderson, Thomas are the only true producers to have stuck it out. Anderson was a borderline 5 star and now might not be drafted. The others were mid-to-bottom of the class and have outshined the heralded highly ranked guys. This is the kind of class that destroys a program.

Strong shot of being 0-5 on this one. Obviously I hope I am very wrong here. 10-ish sounds right. The Texas MO for the portal has not been to go nuts. Maybe that changes this cycle, but I doubt it. -They'll likely add 3-4 DTs. Several of those will be role players. -1-2 WRs. I think these will be proven, productive P4 guys and at least one will be a burner. -1 TE if they can find a star. If Niblack is back, plus the fact they like Washington a ton, and Townsend coming on board, maybe they stand pat here. -0-1 TB. Just depends upon the health of CB and Clark. -0-1 LB. There's a lot to like about who they're returning and who they're signing, but they find a guy that can play STs and fit into the rotation, this wouldn't be crazy. -2-3 DBs. We're going to see some DB attrition and they need DB depth and special teams help. -1 P. I don't care if Kern is back or not, they need to try to improve this spot. -1 K. Auburn ain't cutting it. I don't see losing enough OL to make it worth going after an OL. OLs are expensive - another key facet for having excellent, home-grown OL depth. I don't know why they'd feel it necessary to find another DE, given what is on campus and joining the roster. -

Yeah, I said he was a solid "double" from the portal for the program up the thread. He's still a role player offering limited snaps each game. -
It's in the aggie 2025 recruiting thread somewhere. Going into the season, I think it was like 50% of the class was still there.
