2024 Spring Practice to Fall Camp Thread - Who’s a JAG now?
closetojumping replied to sith_horn's topic in Football
You guys read too much into things. There's no "nice" or "mean' or any other thing. There's just closetojumping. If I had the controls to this site last week, I'd have rolled your handle and 20 others into purgatory just the same as I'd do right now if I could. -

What kind of burger are we talking about? A Big Kahuna Burger? A Good Burger? A veggie patty burger? No, fuck that. Now, if @immamac would change your handle to Jaggy McPosterjagger or something, I'd be all-in for whatever people wanted to us. -
Texas A&M Recruiting 2025: The Land of Melk & No Money

@Dennis Taylor, I think, is a family friend. If not him another handle like his, dammit. Anyway, the last update was that the player is a redass and going nowhere, but that was months ago. -
What's the story here? The Houston version is Shaun Bagwell having goes with at least Darryl Kile, Ken Caminiti, and Mike Hampton. The Caminiti trade was driven by Jeff Bagwell's demands, allegedly.

Regarding their current outlook for starting OL, it's really, really grim over there. Holy shit, from Tarp: To translate, they have Crownover and Bisontis starting and neither guy has any film that can be viewed positively. They have a guy at C that was trampled repeatedly last season. Reuben Fatheree is their offensive line's MacGuffin.

Regarding their current outlook for starting OL, it's really, really grim over there. Holy shit, from Tarp: I've provided some thoughts on Texas A&M's offensive tackles but focused primarily on them as players. Now, here are some takes on the offensive line this spring as a whole (the following is solely a product of my thought process). 1. You're going to have at least five starting caliber guys for the five spots up front. Your questions are more about who's going to play as opposed to can so and so be an adequate player at a particular position. 2. A lineup of Trey Zuhn (left side) and Dametrious Crownover (right side) at tackle, Chase Bisontis and Armaj Reed-Adams at guard, and Mark Nabou at center makes a lot of sense for multiple reasons going into the spring game (this isn't necessarily a projection for the season opener…we've got a long way to go before then). 3. Zuhn is experienced and has a nice kick step to stay with people on the edge. He's got to deal with people getting their hands into his chest but he's gradually improved that aspect of his game as he's gotten bigger and more experienced. Crownover offers a lot of potential and is probably the best pure athlete up front. He has dominant reps when everything works for him and that's something that everyone seems to be attracted to. However, he has to reduce the problematic reps and individual games, particularly in terms of his usage rate. 4. Bisontis is a big guy with a quick first step. He looks good on initial contact and his legs keep churning to sustain his advantage. Playing between people and getting help in pass pro will enable him to avoid the "play in space with no help" scenarios he faced far too often in 2023 as a converted guard on the edge (and he was a true freshman to boot). Reed-Adams is a massive guy and he's got quite a few starts under his belt. The trick for him will be dealing with quicker players on the interior since (like Bisontis) you're not going to run over him in pass pro. 5. Nabou is solid on the inside as the pivot man. He doesn't seem to struggle with snaps, and he can be very physical. He is another guy that you're not going to run over. The trick for him will be getting off of the ball, keeping his feet moving, and getting his hand placement going. 6. Beyond what I think would be the first five, there's still generally a lot of people trying to reconcile themselves to a new campus or offensive scheme, gaining experience as youngsters, in track, or dealing with injuries (either from the spring or last season). 7. I think that Reuben Fatheree is an exception to all of the above, I like him just fine, and I could be wrong, but we'll see. ---- To translate, they have Crownover and Bisontis starting and neither guy has any film that can be viewed positively. They have a guy at C that was trampled repeatedly last season. Reuben Fatheree is their offensive line's MacGuffin. -

I've got more good stuff coming from those idiots that I'm going to post here as well. Here's a tidbit about that awesome 5 star TJ Shanahan that shocked me: Tarp "Mr_Pibb said... (original post) How is TJ looking?" Shorter than I expected in person. There's guys who are out right now like Dewberry that you would normally expect to make a run at a starting job. Foster is also in track. He might still be a year away. ---- To translate: He's not a player we should expect to see out there and he probably won't ever be any better than that. If you doubt my interpretation, here's another comment from Tarp about the way he feels he has to write on that site from the same thread: Tarp "WesleyTXAg said... (original post) Agreed, but I am also referring to your narrative. So unless you're saying your narrative is A&M's narrative, I think it is worth ..." I'm just telling you what I see and hear. However, you're always going to get push back with this fan base if things aren't what the narrative is, like when I posted the other day that they're probably further behind in talent compared to programs like Georgia and Ohio State or that they're still trying to figure things out due to the number of newcomers. There are other considerations such as the fact that they're more experienced and disciplined than what they were under the previous regime. -

From Aggie 247 and my thoughts: Carter Karels continues to attempt subtle messages to his aggie readers that their roster is dogshit and they're going to need to do a lot of work in the portal. He's also hinting at soon to be exits as well. I'm not sure if any of it is getting through. Here's an article in which he talks about the offense and their portal needs. Spoilered so the folks that just come to this thread to crack the ever-hilarious sheepfucking jokes don't have too long of a scroll: So it appears that they're planning on losing a QB. The staff isn't happy at OT and will be in the portal fishing for one of those ever present starting OTs who can start on day one. They think they're losing at least one TB. They also don't think they have RB1 on campus so, again, they'll be all over one of those awesome starting TBs that no one else is bidding for to step right in the lineup. They just lost a WR to foot surgery who had transferred in from Troy and was an immediate starter. He won't be back for the first part of the season, if any of it. They also lack a WR1 on campus and need one of those to magically drop in for them as well. They don't think they need help at TE but the staff also doesn't see a TE1 on the roster. They don't have a functioning C and will be begging someone to join them at that spot, otherwise they're reliant on a completely disengaged Bryce Foster or someone worse. They're "loaded" with guys on the IOL, but Karels seems to be unaware that quantity is completely irrelevant if quality is non-existent. -

It depends on what you'd classify as "a ton" but it was nothing close to the expectation had he entered the draft. At the time, I'm not talking about it now that we've seen he wasn't able to come back, we thought his decision to come back was a mistake but the guy wanted to be at Texas working his way back.

That's great and all, but the guy's nickname has been Jagger McJaggerson for over a year. -
I think Alabama is going to have some surprising and serious LOS issues in 2024. I'll wait until the portal is closed to really think about it, but as of right now, and from what I saw in their spring game, there's a good shot that they won't look like the same fronts from Bama since 2008.

Burton has been doing this longer than anyone else, is so cautious that I find it irritating sometimes, and is completely aware of the NIL landscape, UT's place in it, and the agent grift of using UT as some sort of pawn. Players want to come to Texas and play for an "it" brand and an "it" staff. There is only one CFP team from 2023 that actually returns its coach. You don't need to squint here and try to find something to worry about on the football or recruiting end. There are baseball and basketball threads for that and you don't even have to squint to see issues for both of those programs in order to satisfy the handwringing itch. -

Nothing says SEC OL play like a guy measuring 6'5", 270. The Adam Ulatoski/Tristan Nicholson School of Physical Development churns out another future star. -
Texas Basketball Recruiting Notes: A Clean Shave

The biggest issue with the 2023-2024 season is that Terry let Mitchell's faction bully him into giving Mitchell a featured role at a position he had no business playing. They should have let him walk last year and signed other transfers that were interested in coming to Texas and were much better, you know, basketball players. That shit sent everything else spiraling. The team never looked like a cohesive unit. -

Burton, this morning, posted the most bullish article he's ever written in regard to Texas recruiting. It's based on what they know is happening behind the scenes with this class and the lack of concern over the direction of NIL and the program. He's saying it's a top 3 class when all is said and done. For those that are less familiar with all of this, Bobby is more often than not very cautious and never bombastic. It's kind of crazy to see this level of certitude from him. It goes back to what I've been saying on here, however. There is a ton of momentum in recruiting, the likes of which we haven't seen since the VY era. If Johnson makes the trip this weekend after his track meet, there is a high likelihood that he is doing so in order to commit. Another cool thing that isn't getting talked about is that Lance Jackson is under-ranked and should be a 5 star. The services might ultimately get wise enough to him to rank him there, but I doubt it. Doesn't matter. He's a difference maker at the next level according to folks who have seen him lately in workouts and studied his film. He's been hurt and is allegedly having a mediocre year in baseball (by draft prospect standards), so that also helps dim down the prospects of him getting drafted early in the 2025 MLB draft for now. Don't be surprised if this weekend is used to inform Lacey that they're aiming for two QBs in the class, and then they offer Russell. Lacey goes home and decommits, then Russell commits. Not saying that for sure, but it would get everyone in a decent space without angry sentiments. -

It has been quite the while since utfan87/urinal cake was able to rile this board up with one of his dismissive, brief, negative drive-bys. He’s like the OG 6thStreet. I’m not saying Garrison isn’t coming to Texas, but you guys are starting to place a premium on him that only he and his handlers believe should be there. -

I think he’s a middling guy and wouldn’t want him on UT’s roster, but I love him in theirs. -
It’s weird that there hasn’t been an update in thread in months, but that’s not why I am posting. Someone mentioned that Texas has the most individual Masters winners at 3. Not sure if there’s a convenient way to confirm that so figured I’d ask here since some posters always seem to know their shit about whatever sport is being discussed.

I’m abstaining from seriously considering records until the portal is closed. Right now I’d say that’s about right but who the hell knows what is about to happen? The aggie roster, because of circumstances regarding staff transition and so on, has as much risk on it as any out there. There continue to be rumblings of upheaval in some name programs this next week. I don’t know how much of that is media bullshit from the likes of Pate versus true. -
