  1. How’s his recovery going?
  2. I'm in Austin but I would recommend that she go to Methodist or THI mainly because I knew a lot of the old-timers. I don't know Dallas/Southwestern very well. And don't recommend yourself - she's a PITA.
  3. I don't know much about the North-West Frontier Province but their acronym should be stolen by a rap band or a labor union.
  4. @Fat Bastard or anyone else, who are the best interventional cardiologists in Texas. Non-relative has stenosis of the internal jugular and was told that nothing can be done. I was curious on who would be the best to address the issue. Unfortunately, this is the type of patient people don't like to see - self-diagnoses a multitude of things and pesters. But, I'm curious at the very least.
  5. Sorry meant - Diet and exercise and healthy living (ie. not smoking) correlate well well with life expectancy but healthcare expenditures do not correlate well with life expectancy.
  6. look at the countries - Syria, Jordan, Principe, Antigua and Indonesia are not spending on healthcare. And outcomes don't correlate well with quality of care. Diet and exercise and healthy living do, however correlate well well with outcomes.
  7. This is what I read and something similar on another government type website and AI. https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/suicide-rate-by-country Suicide in Sweden In 2019, Sweden had 14.7 suicides per 100,000 people. Historically, Sweden has had a high suicide rate, with the most suicides in the developed world during the 1960s. That may have been due, at least in part, to cultural attitudes regarding suicide and long, dark winters, particularly in the northern regions. The government responded to the crisis with social welfare and mental health services, and the numbers have dropped dramatically. Today, Scandinavian countries – Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and Finland – have very high happiness rates and relatively low suicide rates. However, the dark winters – 20 hours of darkness or more in each day in some areas – causes seasonal affective disorder (SAD), a form of depression, which has been known to correlate with higher rates of suicide. Euthanasia, or physician-assisted suicide, is still illegal in Sweden but is accepted in some instances. A physician may not administer lethal drugs to a terminally ill patient, but he or she may end life support of the patient requests doing so and demonstrates that they understand the consequences. This form of physician-assisted suicide, known as passive euthanasia, is not included in suicide statistics. Active euthanasia, when a physician administers lethal drugs to a terminally ill patient with the patient and family's consent, may soon become legal in Sweden, as it is becoming more accepted in European countries.
  8. Luckily, Google blurred out all the images when I was doing my first search. Life comes at you hard and fast.
  9. That's the one I was looking for. I couldn't find the right search tool at work, though.
  10. But just for the concept exterior design, do you think architect or interior designer? My biggest issue is that I want to take care of the interior issues this coming year as that will be plenty expensive before tackling the addition the following year. But, that means that I will have to move the front door or know where I am going to move the front door if I want to remodel and expand the kitchen. Also, since it isn't new construction and I don't have the plans, who can I call to get measurements and elevations to redraw the existing home?
  11. So big cities have low suicide rates and rural areas have high suicide rates? I get the rural areas, but personally, I feel like big cities drive me crazy. I fucking hate traffic. BTW, I assume that something similar could be happening in Scandinavia - people moving from rural areas into the large population centers - so the entire country's suicide rate lowers.
  12. Well, how did you type it? Like this? or like this? or like this? Or like this? Really, it can mean lots of things.
  13. How'd it go for that dude?
  14. Maybe it just shows that if men get nagged enough, they'll even go to war to get out of the house. And maybe that is just what women want.
  15. This is all true, except we don't know his conclusions, unless we are basing it on tweets rather than detailed discussions. And personally, I think tweets suck and the idea behind tweets sucks.
  16. That appears true. However, Sweden had Scandinavia in general had very high suicide rates in the 1960s but those numbers have improved dramatically. Socialism is generally credited for the improvement but their numbers are still worse than in the US and as I pointed out above, GDP and access to care seem irrelevant. OTOH, Scandinavia must be doing something right to see such a large change: And it could be something as simple as better technology to combat the long winters.
  17. The F35 is flawed and drones are increasingly important in warfare.
  18. Besides Texas, I was also a Nebraska fan at the time. They got their ass kicked too that day.
  19. One interesting thing following the mental health rabbit hole, is that mental health treatment seems borked. In the US, there was no correlation between what was termed quality of care and suicide rates. The south had lower suicide rates compared to the Rocky Mountain States. California had very low suicide rates. Vermont had high suicide rates. Looking at suicide rates by country, the lowest rates were found in some of the poorest countries which I assume would also have the lowest "quality of care". And the countries with the highest suicide rates: So, there appears to be no correlation between GDP and mental health nor is there a correlation between "quality of care" and mental health. Countries such as Canada who are considered to have great quality of mental healthcare have higher suicide rates than the US which is considered to have poor quality of mental healthcare.
  20. It must have fallen apart fast because after 84 was 85 and he was fired in 86.
  21. Interesting. All the articles I see are related to cost, access and number of adults with needs. I have a hard time finding info. on the quality of treatment.
  22. I haven't seen any state handle behavioral health well. I assume you have. Can you tell me how New York and Massachusetts private behavioral health facilities differ from those in Texas? I see the Acadia operates in most states: https://www.acadiahealthcare.com/locations/
  23. The music world is mourning the loss of Colin "Smiley" Petersen, the original drummer for the Bee Gees, who passed away on November 18.
