i work in the industry and routinely provide clarification on industry custom and practice in o&g.
i have to say that in my years on surly, debating whether or not midstream and downstream are part of o&g may actually be the peak of utter fucking stupidity in the debates that exist here. anyone that does not think that midstream and downstream are part of the o&g industry need to have their fucking heads examined because that is genuinely some of the stupidest shit i have ever read...and a bizarre hill to destroy your credibility over.
midstream companies are not just tariff chargers. they often purchase commodities at the wellhead under purchase contracts where title and risk of loss transfers prior to them gathering/compressing/processing/treating/transporting. dcp, oneok, etp, enterprise, kinder, and on and on and on all have thousands of these contracts. they also act as service providers but that doesn't make them part of o&g for fuck's sake. y-grade ngl transportation from processing plants to mt. belvieu or conway for fractionation is absofuckinglutely part of the o&g industry as anyone that is not a complete dipshit knows. e&p, field services, midstream, and downstream are all different but all part of o&g. i genuinely cannot believe this is something being debated here.
weird that the oil and gas journal's front page sections out general, e&p, drilling & production, midstream refining & processing, and midstream/downstream pipelines and transportation right there on their homepage.
