  1. had mine done by danny at straight frets on south congress earlier this year and was happy with the outcome.
  2. a big part of it is that it is uptempo at 160 bpm which is just jarring when you are expecting an jason isbell song. also, the overwhelming majority of his songs...particularly his popular ones...are in g. also a and d. save the world is in e. but i will say his voice is noticeably more compressed in save the world than most other tracks. there's not as much depth and color on the tone...and that's a lot of his signature. it is much more of pop music expression of his vox. also a result of master buss compression i suspect. what you are talking about is dynamic range/expression. fwiw, in the liner notes, he says the approach was what would happen if neil young was fronting a paul mccartney song when he was with wings...tying small pieces together to come to a crazy song in sum. he was treading new ground here and i don't think he wanted to seem like he was devaluing the first half of it by overpowering the refrain.
  3. that rules out my theory. I suppose the only logical explanation one can reach is that your sd-1 pedal or your fender amp or your cables are possessed by satan. or perhaps your entire house. good luck.
  4. you are obviously coping with summer boredom and trying to lure some people into telling you "the protestants are not going to be happy with you..."
  5. it was a lovely spring and a fabulous may (relatively speaking) so i will withhold my fuck everything comments for now but i suspect that sense of grace will be gone by friday.
  6. watched the first two episodes. it is taking them so long to get into this weeknd is a cult leader stuff that i feel like levinson should just do what he really wants to do and start directing porn with above average hot girls like sydney sweeny and lily depp.
  7. fuck me. i don't think even sitting in my car for four hours can overcome this shit.
  8. Well, about that…I may have fucked us.
  9. Striking out 16 times to that dork is not the lowest point in Texas baseball history…but it sure is trying. Christ. Looked like we had never seen a first pitch fastball or a left handed slider in our lives. shake it off and go get them tomorrow.
  10. I can’t remember the last time he actually didn’t strike out.
  11. Sd1s are notoriously noisy and have a hum. but the piercing noise seems like maybe you are feeding it a 12V power supply instead of 9?
  12. Erroneous. I did a pseudo Father’s Day dinner tonight with my daughters because I have to leave the country next weekend. We were listening to Craig in the car when Kennedy took the lead early. Left perla’s and got in the car right as Craig came back from commercial to start the ninth. Decided after the walk and the hit batsman, I wasn’t leaving the car until it was over and it kind of worked out. All seven runs were while I was in my car. my wife thinks it’s going to be awkward when I sit in my car all night tomorrow night.
  13. Italian teams just play defense in big games it seems…juve’s last decade of champions league finals notwithstanding.
  14. As someone deep down the hole of mixing philosophies at the moment, curious on an example track for what you’re referring to…
  15. Jesus man, sorry you had to endure that. Not much else to say. Good reminder of how music can impact differently based on your story. Especially someone who takes on what JI does in his music.
  16. as much as everyone has this one penciled in as over before it starts...i have a weird feeling about tomorrow all of a sudden. or it may just be the clap.
  17. as much as i hate you guys for making me go there, I have to admit that this one may be peak texags... someone going to shitting on the legacy of peaceful transitions of power in a breathless attempt to defend donald trump is something extraordinary...i thought it was an expert level troll for a moment but then saw some more of this dude's posts. nope.
  18. well, in fairness, @Steel Shank laying pipe is accounting for like 79% of that. now i think i have a better understanding of why you make and deliver grilled cheeses to your son's girlfriend after they have fucked in your bed. just busting your balls.
  19. i think i just had a revelation about isbell listening to this last album...this may be something that others who are more into him than me have touched on before but... is he william faulkner as a guitar player and singer? as someone who grew up in deep east texas amongst the southern american culture, most self-aware people effort to leave that shit behind as quickly as possible and remove it from their life. but isbell, like faulkner, doesn't just draw inspiration from the his regional roots...they both lean into them hard in order to tell these very authentic stories. a lot of faulkner's characters were really developed through their personal demons and impactful legacies from the past...as well as instruments for commentary on societal bullshit and the complexities of american southern culture. both employ very vivid narratives and are compelling storytellers that repeatedly touch on personal experiences of the less positive elements of life...and complexity of emotions and relationships. the authenticity and honesty applied to similar stories...just feel like there is an awful lot of overlap there.
  20. just ran through it twice. betraying my ballad nature here but upon first listens, i really enjoyed "strawberry woman" and "miles" the most. guitar on "this ain't it" really sounds like allman. lots of heavy shit...
  21. What the shit is that?
