  1. i recommended podcast this to paul wesley last night while we were doing a "what does terrible guitar playing from sidis sound like" mic showdown at his studio. (royer r-121 beat out u87, km84, km184, sm57, and sm7b for guitar, u87 won for bass...barely) it is a podcast that two amusing guys from musictech mag do where they make guests pick, on top of a computer, daw, and audio interface...six pieces of hardware or software gear that they could have (and be limited to) in their "forever" studio. some of you fellow dorks might enjoy it. it has a heavy edm vibe amongst the guests but some of them are really good and it is interesting hearing the gear picked reflect the role of the guest. https://musictech.com/shows/podcasts/my-forever-studio/
  2. i think i misconstrued something earlier. that's the right plan. assuming you start in cagliari, i would spend a day there, then take a day to drive to orosei (which takes like an hour and a half max straight but there are solid stops along the way) and spend a couple of days boating there. cala goloritze, cala fuili, cala luna. if you want a change of pace, i would drive to the northwest and base out of sassari and check out the parks and beaches up there as well. sassari will feel a little bit closer to being on mainland italy. beautiful piazze everywhere and probably the best and most native food experience on the island. very close to la pelosa which is worth checking out as a contrast to orosei and for people watching. depending on what time of year though, it can get a bit packed. in my opinion, a stop at san giovanni di sinis on the way back south is worth it as well. if your kids are not at least teenagers, i would leave them at home.
  3. i haven't watched it yet but regarding the negative feedback on this page, i did see on my feed that the episode was partly written by my favorite all time british woman keeley hazell. i did not know my favorite all time british woman was a writer. i'll just leave that there.
  4. software: uhe zebra and diva are my go to. hard to beat it. i like serum as well like basically everyone. i have countless, countless other ones including ni's massive, reaktor, etc... of all the major ones out there, the only one i haven't really used as much is omnisphere. just haven't really had occasion. on hardware, cs-80 or go home. kidding. i'd take a juno 106, jupiter 8, prophet 5, or minimoog as well. i recommend to anyone that is just starting out with softsynth to start with serum because it is as close as possible to teaching you how to actually work the shit which is kind of an important step unless you just want to prince your way through the presets (nttawt).
  5. yeah, there's lots of rib boat rental places. you would probably be fine but it depends on what you are looking for in terms of time and how much you want to see by water. if you want to do a series of eastern/northeastern coastal beaches, you're gonna need something more substantial than a rib/zodiac. i recommend the idea of chartering with a local captain because 1) there is more to navigate there than most think and 2) better local knowledge. that said, there are some pretty good deals out there for doing it yourself. it just depends on the horsepower in terms of whether you can rent it yourself. the rib boats are obviously for anyone to rent. we did it ourselves and got a boat in villasmius...to be honest, it has been a while but i believe we got it through https://www.pickandboat.com/en/home-english/ assuming you are starting in cagliari, it will be easy. there isn't a coastline part of sardinia that isn't incredible. the gulf of orosei is hard to beat. cala goloritze on the south end of the gulf was my favorite beach. i never wanted to leave. it's a perfect mix of tahiti (for water), kauai (for dramatic surroundings), and the cote d'azur (for vibe) as weird as it is to say. everyone knows costa smerelda and for good reason. you won't be disappointed but trust me on cala goloritze...worth the effort. don't sleep on the northwest and west part of the island as well. more remote, fewer people, and fucking unbelievable shit man. look in to is aruttas on the sinis peninsula and la pelosa if you are up for a trip. pure heaven...especially if you have a boat. it will be a great trip.
  6. back to an orchestral and piano mockup. this is another one that was somewhat commissioned. friend is doing a film project based on monarch butterflies that i won't bore you with. anyway, he needed a score to a 6 minute longshot in which there is first flight and a bunch of sappy dramatic stuff that happens. so here is that mockup. not terribly pleased with how the cello is sitting in the mix in the second half and getting its vibrato knocked out by something clashing but i was sick of messing with the mockup and will worry about it in recording and mixing the recorded strings.
  7. Those are ideal goals to align with a trip to sardinia. It is unbelievably beautiful. There are some inconveniences that are exacerbated moreso regarding typical infrastructure needs relative to even corsica but if you are there with the right goals and attitude, you will find very few places better. one thing to keep in mind is that it is comparable to east texas or alabama in terms of incest on the island. though it is a larger island than most people think it is. there are a ton of festivals throughout the year...basically like every other day and i would not limit yourself to beaches entirely. there are a lot of great places inland but public transport isn't a reliable option like on the mainland.
  8. gonna go ahead and start the 2023-2024 Championship thread for yoladu and me. See you assholes later...
  9. if everton wants any chance of not getting relegated, then today's throwdown is a must win. anything else and it is hello championship. they will be proper fucked.
  10. or have an amazing, hero friend who is already in on the VIP list for all things PJ that can hook you up with a +1 on the floor...
  11. i would actually argue that it is not that bad an outcomes for everton as it keeps both of them in striking distance. a win one way or another keeps one of them really close but this keeps them both "down." given leeds' remaining schedule, i think if everton is going to survive relegation, it is more likely to be at leeds' expense than leicester but given that everton are about to get buttfucked by newcastle, meh.
  12. cool man, what are you playing in this track? guitar?
  13. gooooood damnit. i was planning to get some shit done today. fuck.
  14. I just saw the word consequences in the title and thought the track would be some terrible thrash metal song called “The Dildo of Consequences is Rarely Lubed.” recording sounds fine but feels like the 1-3kHz range here is dominating a lot. Feel like it needs a good bit of 250 and 500 boost. From what I understand, the area between those for acoustic doesn’t present the same level of muddiness as electric so maybe even Q’d across the whole range? playing sounds wonderful.
  15. jeez, arsenal really fucked this. oh well.
  16. you're fucked.
  17. i wonder if they will do home and home where the ac fans get most of the tickets for one game and inter get most for the other or if they will go full red river shootout for both.
  18. i really thought that arsenal had a real chance...but dropping points against west ham to me sealed it for city.
  19. @Goredho, not new music but since this thread semi serves as the recording techniques thread as well, just thought i would share daniel lanois' interview on gearspace and someone asked him about mic'ing acoustics and it made me think of you. https://gearspace.com/board/interviews/1363141-interview-daniel-lanois.html also, since you are also a great lover of the greatest ambient song ever made in eno's "an ending (ascent)," i had no idea that the whole damned thing resulted from a reversal.
  20. murphy was fantastic, as was mitchell. excited about both of these guys. moore needs to work on the hands. cook is fast. was encouraged by run defense from dline and not horrible on pass rush either. i think lbs are going be better than they have been in a while.
  21. jwst observations made by team called ceers led by some astronomers/researchers from ut are challenging some previously held theories feeding the standard model on early universe galactic and stellar formation. this image in particular... in layman's terms, the zoomed red dot is a galaxy that's been named maisie's galaxy (along with five other identified galaxies since) which is named after the lead researcher's (a research at the university of texas) daughter. based on its preliminary measurement of redshift, masie's galaxy is approximately 500-700 million years after the theoretical timing of the big bang. critically, follow up analysis and measurement is necessary to confirm the preliminary estimates so all this is still in the preliminary phase. it is possible that some supermassive black holes are effectively brightening and distorting measurements of mass or that certain types of dust are affecting the apparent redshift (and perception of distance) so that's why more precise spectroscopy using jwst is necessary. however, if the timing and mass are correct based on spectroscopy, these infant time period galaxies are absolutely fucking massive...one even larger than the milky way is today. that isn't expected/predicted under the standard model of cosmology and raises some significant questions about how these early stage galaxies formed so massively, so quickly...and how they consumed and converted nearly 100% of their gas into stellar formation when we typically see only about 10% conversion in more mature galaxies. it would require quite a bit of revision to the standard model and a need to better understand why/how there was more matter to available in forming early stars and galaxies than previously believed. lots of implications with regards to dark matter halos and the rate of expansion in the universe. and taking a step back and having a just smoked a bowl moment, you are looking at an image of something that's light left on its journey to us approximately 13 billion years ago. here are some other cool images from the same ceers survey images...clicking on the below should blow it up. 1 is a spiral galaxy with a large number of blue star-forming clumps and star clusters. 2 is an alignment of a bright galaxy with several smaller galaxies forming an arc. 3 is an interacting system of galaxies colliding. 4 is two interacting spiral galaxies...and the arrow is pointing to an active supernova. 5 is another spiral galaxy and 6 is a grouping of red galaxies and a good sized galaxy showing a tidal tail.
  22. I had never heard of this Morgan Wallen dipshit before today. My kids like to play pandora on our fridge in the kitchen while we make breakfast, etc and they had it on the Taylor swift radio channel this morning. Something came on that made me consider taking the knife I was cutting some stuff for food prep and going to homicidally sing it to take out as much of humanity as humanly possible before I stopped myself, looked at the culprit on the screen, and it was some trash by Morgan Wallen. Mind you, I’m already in 8-10 year old girl music mode so my tolerance level is ultra high at the moment. I down-thumbed it without committing any atrocities.

    The Blues

    Fantastic. Thanks for sharing.
  24. I listened to the end of the game on the radio after leaving a concert last night and it was in the midst of the pitching change with one out in the 9th. Craig was talking about Grubbs taking it on the chin in the Tuesday game against TSU and how he gave up his only extra base hits on two double ms in the last outing. He then proceeds to give up two doubles and a two run hr. holy shit guys. What the ever loving fuck…
