  1. Reminds me of a joint I stopped at outside San Antonio driving eastbound I-10 many years back. Billboard said, "World's Best BBQ", or something like that. I was hungry and thought, that's a bold statement for a BBQ joint in central Texas - gotta try it. It was awful. Brisket was roasted, not smoked. Sausage was subpar. Didn't even have good sauce to compensate. As I drove away, I concluded they must draw in a lot of fresh suckers like me with that sign to stay in business. Location being on I-10 probably what made that possible.
  2. According to their website, yes. I've not been there. Got this at HEB. I was a little disappointed with it and won't buy it again. I agree it looked good, but ... caveat, taste is subjective and all that. My first try of a dunkel or Klaus brewing. Maybe it's better on draft or this batch was not to my liking.
  3. It's tough to beat no matter what you use, whether it be your fists, a hammer or pile driver ...
  4. They are also a valid criticism of the team as a whole. It is a team sport and it only takes one or two not doing their job correctly to foil a play. As good as he has played this season, for instance, Brooks could have made it in the endzone against OU on a play running behind Murphy and Sweat if he'd just followed Sweat as intended, but he hesitated and looked left to a gap that was opening left of center that was immediately filled by Sooners. His hesitance looking for alternate holes to develop often yields great results, but in this case it doomed the play. It's a game of fractions of a second and inches at times, especially at the goal line. The interior OL is a weakness and having Majors go down with Hutson already out thrust Robertson into the fire. Majors played at less than 100% against Houston, and Hutson was still out. Hopefully Majors is much better tomorrow.
  5. Ewers does tend to throw balls erring towards preventing interceptions. He doesn't always succeed though as he often lags on crossing routes and slants, as well as some downfield throws. But you see him leading receivers often enough to tell that he's trying to prevent interceptions. And in this instance, he had to clear that LB. He has more and better weapons too. AD Mitchell, and a more seasoned Sanders and Worthy. So, clearly a more dangerous passing game. They can't just focus on Worthy.
  6. Cannot fully agree with that assessment. He's been with the program for two seasons, including both spring and fall camps. So he's had lots of practice, coaching and time to absorb and master the offense, mature and physically develop. It's valid to point out number of games played but that doesn't negate his time here. You wouldn't equate a freshman to a redshirt freshman either (assuming not medically out that entire first year). Likewise, just being an early enrollee has repeatedly proven a significant advantage.
  7. Unfortunately though, it also means he's not realizing all the potential of said arm strength, because there are times when you need to fire that bullet. He's best at it over the middle. Less so to the sidelines. His mechanics are still a work in progress.
  8. I didn't pay attention in this game, but there have been numerous short spots for us, and favorable ones for our opponents in previous games this season.
  9. In the games he's played this season, he mostly handed off the ball, with only one, maybe two passes. He hasn't had a chance to get in rhythm in a real game. In the Spring game, there was very little pressure/no contact allowed, and most of his receivers were wide open. He gets one off where in reality he would have been sacked or his arm hit making the throw. So while we saw several great throws and completions in the Spring game, he wasn't really under duress. But you do get an idea of what he's capable of. Let's hope the rest of the team plays an A+ game, defense included, because that will take pressure off Maalik and allow him to be comfortable.
  10. You might be right, but ... I think a couple of factors were at play against Houston. Team came in off the bye a little too relaxed, further bolstered by the early 21 point lead in the game. Add to this Majors, not 100%, playing through some pain which probably wore on him more as the game progressed. Houston punches back, gains some momentum and start playing like madmen because they now see they have a chance to take down Texas. I'd like to think that the coaches and the OL are going to get a little serious about business after escaping the upset by the skin of their ass this last Saturday. And hopefully Majors is feeling better too by end of next week.
  11. Sure there is, I don't know them and don't pretend to. It is obvious at this point there was a plan to redshirt him. Pretty sure that didn't come from Arch himself. You are right about one thing though "but we said no playing him this year" is stupid, I didn't say it and I'm not sure who did. He gets to play in 4 games, he should get some time. Maybe we are fortunate he hasn't gotten in a game yet. Sark himself has said multiple times this year that he wanted to get Arch in a game, it just hasn't happened. Like you, I can only speculate, but there is a huge difference between making him the starter as a true freshman named as such coming out of fall camp vs this point in the season. He's had much more time to practice and absorb the offence, etc. Furthermore, what MonkeyDoughNut said above. It is not the same pressure cooker situation at this point for Arch as it would have been from the get-go. Still less than ideal though. Best for everyone if Maalik can swing it. At least they know what's coming. They have the full week with the mindset that one or both of them will play in the next game. It's not an abstract concept that suddenly becomes reality. No greater example of that I can think of than poor Garrett Gilbert.
  12. Sanders would be my second runner up. Yeah, he's dropped some he shouldn't, but also made some outstanding catches. In particular, I'd say his upper hemisphere is better than the lower.
  13. Both valid points and I share the same concern. I'd also emphasize the small sample size though. Murphy simply has not been allowed enough possessions or to throw enough balls in a game for him to show us if he can get dialed in and establish a rhythm. Nor has he been prepped for a game as the starter would be. Other obvious concerns will be his ability to read defenses and on the fly adjustments. It sucks we are in this position and that we haven't throttled lesser opponents to allow him more snaps this season.
  14. You might be right about that. Given how it looked in the moment, I'm still gruntled.
  15. In that video clip Hayden Conner responds appropriately to Houston DE David Ugwoegbu trying to add a little extracurricular action instead of just getting up after the tackle. Conner puts him on his ass and I heartily approve. That demeanor was missing from the OL against Arky.
  16. Suck it douchebag Caleb Williams. Too bad, so sad.
  17. How did they not call illegal blocks in the back to start that run?
  18. Might be the best thing to happen to them.
  19. Those two guys being injured at the same time is an absolute killer. Despite have some actual depth this season, the injury bug has managed to disproportionately affect the OL. And it appears Neto has been unable to unseat Hayden Conner. I figure if he was ready, Flood would have him playing. I believe pass protection might be what's holding him back. At least we escaped with a win tonight. Hopefully everyone gets healthier by the next one.
