Hint.  It's not a scheduling alliance.  It's a voting alliance.  Enough votes and power to block anything the SEC wants to do.

What does the SEC want to do that will negatively impact the other P5 leagues? A 12-team playoff benefits them, too. The Pac-12 may actually have a team qualify for a change.

Serious question - is there a chance aggy is shown the door by the sec at some point after we join? We bring a much bigger tv footprint in texas and a more affluent fan base. At a certain point they are just dragging down everyone else’s payout

    No

Like it or not, aggy is still a Top 20 "brand" by most objective metrics. With almost 70k gomers on campus and thousands of east TX wannabes they're easily the 2nd most important property in TX. Vandy, Mizzou, UK, and both MS are less important to the SEC.

Don't remember if this article has been linked.  Author took 5 year's average TV ratings excluding the CCGs and bowl games.  Ranked 1 to 73.  SMU was #73.  Below are the top 25 in the list.

Surprised to see Baylor at 35 and Tech at 37.

Just look at fucking Rutgers at #72.

Did every cable household in the New York DMA purchase the B1G Network? Or did carriers force it on them? What a lousy addition to that league.

No pony up tempo at #73, either

I'll just be excited to have an awesome home game matchup in conference for once. This year's home slate is terrible all the way around.

I'll also be excited for a road trip to Florida.

Ever been to Gainesville? I toured it back in '87 when considering UF and it's a more humid, FL version of Collie Station. Just a college town in BFE and you're 1.5-2 hours from the beach.

There are 360 schools in DI.  You couldn't have your David vs Goliath matches if that number was cut down to 180?

Some of the nostalgia hyperbole on here is ridiculous.

Which D1 basketball leagues do you propose disqualifying - or relegating - from the NCAA Tournament and why? If the NCAA can do this objectively with real data I have no problem with thinning the herd. To your point, there probably aren't 360 teams capable of winning it all. But, I still enjoy watching a #15 seed beat #2 and other surprises.

Political correctness aside, these teams have got to stop picking weird meaningless "mascots" that are more a general concept than a thing a kid can identify and draw.

But, "Crusaders" are hard to draw

...Red Raiders should have red jerseys and make the Zach Thomas look your third option. And get rid of the beveled double T.

Tech's beveled logo is one of the few that actually looks good and more "modern", but yeah. It's not a big upgrade from the traditional Double T's.

I have a million soccer jerseys, but hate how the club teams have sponsors on the front. Some are okay, others ruin the entire jersey. Like Man U with the Chevy logo. That was the most atrocious look I've seen any major team have in any sport. Just obnoxious.

American sports teams are trending in that direction with the NBA selling out. But I guess they have to in order to pay mediocre players $20 mill+ per year.

The thought of paying $100+ for a replica jersey to help advertise a car, beer, or erectile dysfunction pharmaceutical has no appeal to me. I hate that NBA players have become walking billboards, too. I won't buy one.

I'm surprised UT isn't in the Top 10 and that TCU is in the Top 25.

7 SEC teams - it must mean more

Yeah.  I think FBS is too glutted (130 FBS teams is way too many) but the reaction to that is going too far in some quarters.  Separate from some Sun Belt and CUSA teams in football?  Sure.  Stop playing P5 programs and G5 programs that have been at the highest level for 100 years?  That's too far.  NFL Lite is a short term cash grab that is a bad idea in the long term.

Same thing with the NCAA tourney.  Reclaiming some of the revenue from that event for the P5 basketball programs that make most of the money is a good idea.  Uninviting 75% of the schools that currently compete to play in the NCAA tournament is a bad idea.   The interest level in a P5 only NCAA tourney would be way down from the current tournament.

David vs Goliath makes for the best stories of the NCAA Tourney. It shouldn't change at all, IMO. It's the one thing NCAA butt-wipes do right.

It's wild that while their soccer jerseys have flipped from clean and classic to over-designed, over-patterned "cool" shit, their cfb jerseys are going back to basics. It's like they just switched their American and European design studios.

I don't follow soccer design trends closely, but maybe CFB alumni and fans value the nostalgia of their classic uniforms more? Seems to me the EPL teams change their designs every year bc they'll sell more replicas annually. Maybe Nike discovered CFB fans purchased more throwbacks than the new gear?
