Now make 9 conference games happen. Texas plays OU, Aggy, and Piggy every year, and every SEC team every other year.

Yeah, I don't see how the SEC maximizes its ESPN contract without going to a 9-game league schedule. The match-ups are so much better. They need to dump the November FCS games, too, IMO.

If I'm at Washington State, I'm hoping that Disney charges in at the last minute and throws a lot of money at a new deal to hold the PAC together.  But I'm not sure why they would do that.  FOX appears to be pushing for a PAC break-up based on the stuff their media talking heads are saying publicly.

Well, Disney/ESPN did it before to keep the Big 12 afloat by granting pro rata increases for the additions of TCU and WVU. But, we know that was to keep UT & OU from bolting to the Pac with FOX. SDSU doesn't have the cache of either of those, so they'd be betting on their potential.

It doesn't appear that CBS or NBC are interested, either, so they're probably screwed.

  3. This talk of the Pac-10 poaching Big 12 members is a head-scratcher without the flagships in LA. What motivation does OSU, KU, or TCU have to make that move if the money is comparable? IMO, they're gonna have to backfill with the likes of SDSU, Boise St, Fresno St, or UNLV if they stick together and expand.

Yes, UW and UO are big brands who draw more eyeballs on average than anyone in the Big 12. But, only marginally so and I wouldn't consider either "anchors", not that the Big 12 has any either. Maybe the Pac-12 and Big 12 should merge while adding the Top 2 MWC options and be first to 24?

This "loose partnership" proposed between the Pac-12 and ACC also looks like a nothingburger. ESPN doesn't have to do shit for the ACC to boost their payouts.

Honestly, I don't follow recruiting much . . . are they pretty much screwed for their 2023 class if they don't land some decommits?

Technically, nobody is screwed until recruits actually sign their NILs. Verbal commitments are nice, but not binding. When is the early signing date? Last year it was December 15th - 17th.

I think having TEXAS on the front along with the stripes on the sleeves makes the uniform pop out a little bit.  Without those features I think Texas uni's would be boring.

    Agreed

Which blue do you prefer for BYU? Royal or Navy?

We wanted to air our tier 3 content. We were going to do some corny pay per view thing. We wanted A&M to partner with us (who said fuck no) and it was going to be super lame, only interesting to a few hardcore Texas dorks. Then ESPN offered us a bunch of money to do it and we took it. Did we make ESPN decide that airing volleyball and golf was worth a lot of money for some reason?

And Nebraska and Colorado left in 2010 and the SEC already offered A&M to leave in 2010. Did we force the PAC 10, Big 10, and SEC to take Big 12 schools?

So we control the actions of ESPN, Nebraska, Colorado, Texas A&M, the SEC, The Big 10, and the Pac 10 and all because we wanted to put our volleyball and golf on TV?

Everybody forgets Kansas was the first to monetize their T3 with basketball. That's what inspired DeLoss to get creative. He thought we were leaving money on the table. ESPN money-whipped him bc they didn't want to lose UT to the Pac and FOX.

I blame KU for all this, bc it's just as plausible as Dick Justice's drivel.

The Big 8 was before my time. I didn't pay any attention to college sports whatsoever until about 1998, shortly after my family moved from Texas to Oklahoma, and my sister decided to attend OSU. I was still in high school. I've only ever known the Big XII and I loved it because I was in Oklahoma but there were Texas schools involved and everyone else was driving distance when I entered OSU in 2000.

I thought you were older. I liked the original Big XII best, too.

I may get a SWC t-shirt as a gag gift for somebody.

I remember when JoePa had them wear black cleats to (theoretically) make the team look slower than they actually were.

That worked for UT in 2005 too.

That PSU uniform is badass.  Is that just a fan creation or are they headed that way?

It's a throwback that combines earlier PSU uniforms. Here's the description,

    Quote

But the uniforms won’t call to mind just one bygone era.

The white helmets will sport blue numbers on the sides, like the team wore from the 1950s through the early ‘70s. The players will also wear white cleats calling to mind the 1979 Sugar Bowl. The jerseys will have white trim on the shoulders, as they were during the 1982 and 1986 national championship seasons.

Coach James Franklin says the uniforms are a perfect fit for what Penn State is dubbing its “Generations of Greatness” game — a tribute to various eras of the team.

Franklin says the retro uniform “shows and reinforces all the tremendous history and tradition that we have here.”

The thing that I am watching with amusement is the juxtaposition between the institutional arrogance of these schools and the crumbling landscape around them. It is pretty clear that both the PAC and ACC view the B12 with disdain, and many of them are going to be forced into a landing spot that includes the B12. The PAC/ACC thing is nothing more than a bandaid to stop the bleeding, just like the alliance was last year. They are all fucked and they know it and are just desperately holding onto hope that they get an invite into one of the big 2 conferences. This will cause them to hold out too long and have to scramble at the last minute to join. If the B12 were smart, they would solicit 8 schools and tell them they have 4 spots. Whoever gets them gets them, whoever doesn't joins the MWC and the AAC.

Maybe Yormark has already done this with the Pac-6 targets, for starters?

First 4 in get the slots? He's still got time to accommodate additional teams if the media partners deem them value adds. Or maybe the Big 12 moves forward as a 16-team league in line with the B1G and SEC?

I think some sort of media arrangement between the ACC and PAC/XII survivor league makes sense, but not a championship game between them. That would be a ridiculous cluster. Just schedule each other regularly so there's some familiarity and reasons for fans of one league to watch the other from time to time.

That's what made a "loose partnership" between the PAC - sans USC & UCLA - and ACC somewhat ridiculous. There's really no history or compelling match-ups for which ESPN would overpay. Arizona vs UNC in basketball? Maybe Clemson vs Oregon in football.

    Okay...
