Did anyone mention BYU vs Utah yet? A college rivalry game is always fun.

This should be a good one, as it always is.  The fun part is that all of the pressure is on Utah to win and BYU is playing with house money with what will be an improved and fairly underrated team flying under the radar with one of the best underclassmen QB's in the country in Zach Wilson.

BYU always seems to have grown ass men, but I still gotta lean Utes.

Utes have grown ass men too.  Outside of BYU and maybe Utah State, they have a ton of players serve 2 year church missions.

Without looking it up, this has to be close to Utah's longest winning streak in the series.

Yeah, its about as dominant as they have been in recent memory, though all of the games but one were decided by a 1 score or less.   During the late 70s through late 90s, under LaVell Edwards BYU won something like 19 of 20 against the Utes.

I’d like to catch Cincy/UCLA, but will likely miss most of it. I would imagine I’ll row some second half boat and nod off to the Holy War

You'll be missing out then, this is year-after-year a close, hard-fought game.   Should be a good one.

  3. Houston really has gone downhill somewhat.  I went there back in May for the first time in nearly 10 years and Spring and The Woodlands was barely recognizable and covered in signs.   The humidity was unbearable, the traffic was awful and I've never seen so many signs in my life.    Give me DFW over Houston any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

8 is enough. This thread feels like deja vu. 4 is not enough, clearly, and 2014 demonstrated very resoundingly. The committee got it right, and always gets it right. In 2014, tOSU was the clear choice. Clear. TCU got fucked by a 4-team playoff, and Baylor to a lesser extent. Both got fucked by this dumbass conference. Ohio St just murdered a very good team 59-0 in a showcase any sane conference would have that our conference did not. Then they proceeded to win the whole thing from the 4-spot, including convincingly beating favorite Bama.

And the year everyone was bitching about Bama making it when they were second in their own division - first, they won the NC, and second that’s an exceedingly tough division, and they slipped once. Lots of 1-loss champs have been crowned.

The problem that exists now is merely one of too few teams, and I’d argue that in most years 8 is too many. But you’ve got to have it for years like 2014 where 6 teams were deserving. The committee is not the problem. They always get it right.

    They didn't convincingly beat Alabama.

  5. Every year we talk about how polls shouldn't come out till October and seeing this just keeps that annual tradition going.

No.  B1G is making too much money and despite all their posturing, they are the greediest, most willing to throw everyone else under the bus.

They aren't going to give up that advantage.  I could see Pac/Big 12/ACC doing some kind of alliance.  I could also see conference "pairs."  Big 10 and SEC splitting up the ACC so there would be a B1G 10 and B1G Atlantic, an SEC and a SE Atlantic, leaving the Big 12 and Pac 12 to do an alliance in the west.

More likely in the mid 2030s is a version of Prestige Worldwide with 12-14 major football schools forming their own conference.  Only have 6 conference games so you can beat up on the "lesser" schools and bump up your record.  There would be a Prestige Tier, a Power Tier then the Gang Tier.  And maybe there would be two Pestige Conferences, West-USC, UCLA, UW, Colorado, Texas, OU, Texas A&M, Nebraska, LSU, Wisconsin  and an East-Michigan, Ohio St., Penn St., Notre Dame, Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, Florida St., Clemson.  (didn't forget Auburn, but not enough room in east)

And how exactly would that improve CFB or make it any more interesting after the novelty of that arrangement wears off?

UCF, USF, BYU would make this conference more laughable than it already is. Need to convince PIG and LSU to come in. Whatever it takes$$$$$. That would screw aggy. PIG was a national brand in the SWC, now they are an also ran.

Agree on UCF and USF, but BYU would be the 3rd biggest brand in the conference and get a boost in recruiting, making them more competitive and would boost the academic profile of the Big XII.

This is the way I have always felt. The BigXII should be moving heaven and earth to get those two schools. Those two schools should want to be here. For LSU, it gives them the real chance to be an equal in a conference that would embrace them and also strengthens their Texas recruiting. For Arkansas, it gives them a chance to start recruiting east Texas again and have a relevant football team. Bribe boosters, make promises. Whatever it takes. Adding those two would created the kind of conference that would last and, as a bonus, aggy becomes arkansas for the next 50 years.

LSU wouldn't benefit as much re: recruiting, but Arkansas sure would, which would make them more competitive, starting an upward cycle.
