  1. This is just so dumb, county jails are not penitentiaries. I’m sure all these people bonded out after a night in jail on misdemeanor charges.
  2. Yeah but that’s a truly depressing read.
  3. The issues as to why we increased our total number of police is complicated but part of it was the reduction in our standing army. All the sudden we had a great number of people that needed jobs and police work seemed like a good fit. While well intentioned, I think we can all see there have been problems. The increase in the number of police isn’t so much a problem but rather their training and deployment are terrible. Their training is far more militaristic which is really really bad. A good military does one thing, kill the enemy effectively. Police don’t do that, or rather they shouldn’t. Secondly, most crime can be pinpointed to very small pockets. Instead of drilling down on that data and eradicating crime in those small pockets, most large police forces simply deploy their police in low income areas which leads to all sorts of issues. Harassing mostly law abiding people who aren’t bothering anyone but get caught doing relatively low level crime (usually drug related) that without the police presence, wouldn’t even get caught. The sort of thing those in more wealthy areas aren’t bothered with. Writing tickets to people who can’t afford to pay them, etc.. Essentially we’ve deployed our massive police force to harass the working poor and it’s had a disastrous result.
  4. No offense, but you really have no idea what you’re talking about but I commend you on your certainty. The issue was decided, it’s over, no need to rule. That’s called “moot”.
  5. Billy Batts ends up in the back of an Oldsmobile. Your insults are as bad as your facts/analysis. We’ve done enough here, back to football.
  6. Getting rid of the eyes doesn’t change why I love Texas football. Things are always changing, why not this?
  7. Didn’t she participate in at least one of the sexual assaults?
  8. Ruling an issue is moot is not an exclusive tactic of either liberal or conservative jurisprudence, it’s just the correct way of deciding an issue.
  9. Agree, it’s really impressive Dems in Texas have continued to increase their percentages statewide with little to no investment. Beto was the first significant investment in statewide politics by both local donors and nationwide fundraisers and we saw what happened there. Before that Tony Sanchez?
  10. I tend to agree with this.
  11. Of course he’s liberal, as he should be. 9/10 1st amendment issues or attempts at restrictions have been leveled at left wing organizations or individuals. There is a difference with violent rhetoric. Turning a blind eye to right wing terrorism is why people say after every shooting “never saw it coming”, when all you have to do is check their online activity.
  12. People have been talking about Texas turning purple or blue for the last 20 years. Hispanic demographics didn’t really move the needle (not the thread to get into why) but it hasn’t yet. That said, the Dems have steadily increased their numbers which smart Repubs have not ignored. With the baby boomer generation dying off, increased minority voting block, and the younger generation’s lack of Repub voter ID, it could happen soon. I predict when it happens, it’ll happen very rapidly. Those moderates who vote for Repubs out of political expediency will switch over quickly.
  13. I just don’t think you have either the capability or the desire to empathize with anyone of color or you’d understand what they’re saying. And you wouldn’t think it’s just a disgusting joke.
  14. Of course, law school professors say a lot of things. Check it out, I found a quote too!!! “I think the university may be in a difficult position, but if it has procedures that it can follow, they can probably impose penalties if there’s some violation of those procedures,” he said. “Free speech doesn’t protect everything. And it may be that this crosses some line for the university.” Tobias said, however, that taking such action would likely require due process. “Giving somebody due process takes time to do it right,” he said. “You may need to have a hearing, you may need to investigate. And you can’t turn that on a dime.” Carl Tobias, University of Richmond school of law. I’m sure your Llano Estacado 1st amendment analysis is on par with Mr. Tobias’.
  15. Didn’t come close? If your race has been victims of modern day lynchings you might feel differently. These aren’t just jokes or dark humor. As for the players, it takes a lot more courage to speak truth to power than be a racist coward on the internet.
  16. This, he isn’t a transformative political figure from a rhetorical or style sense. However, I bet he gets far more legislative victories. That is reason enough to go all in for Joe. Besides, you have to be slightly emotionally unstable to actively dislike Joe.
  17. This, they’ve been doing it since at least the 80’s. Supposedly they did some research that found people felt it sounded abrasive or negative. I dunno, it’s just their usual troll job.
  18. We called it hot sauce growing up and we didn’t mean Cholula or Tabasco.
  19. That’s fine, I wouldn’t expect someone like yourself to understand. It’s all just “jokes” or “insensitive”. The truth is, the white supremacist and their rhetoric don’t affect you or anyone else you know. You aren’t a target.
  20. Of course, I’m more concerned with physical violence but yes.
