  1. nope - they knew how to peg someone just how they liked it. nttawwt
  2. this one - there were earlier vessel with the name, but this is the first one in the US Navy with the name
  3. Don't we have a couple laying around ? I thought Bremerton and Newport News each had a hull that have been in refubishment for quite a while, looking a Bremerton looks like a lot of subs like to hang out there too (not the boomers they are just north of that at Bangor). Or maybe those are being decommissioned; same difference. Lots of hulls sitting around, not many seaworthy or ready for action/deployment.
  4. you should join the stonks thread - fit right in you will
  5. Sounds like you are deciding the game winner and we are barely in the second inning - nobody has died due to the power being cut (yet). Jumping up and down because we are what now 30 hours into that tactic seems like a bit much; I know that in couch potato USA people will freak out with out power for a day, and they can't get their Quarterpounder and fries, however thankfully there are vast areas in the world that can live for a day or three without having to get their HEB shipt order.
  6. you better look at that like - I think you have to give points to take the IDF
  7. The 'boys need to get Cooper Rush starting some games; just saying it because it is true (and not because Rush is local kid who grew up about 15 miles from my residence)
  8. Wall Street this afternoon says the war(s) will not ruin the equity markets, and that everything is fine
  9. Y'all keep talking about genecide in Gaza, the Israli hope is not for genecide but for hostages to be returned ALIVE. The sooner the better, they can't bomb them back, I don't think they can find them, so they do what they can. These are hardened tough fuckers and they are not really looking to negotiate for a few of them. I am not saying I support the starvation of children, but there have been children killed in this war already so if Hamas wants those children to eat they know what they have to do; and I'm not sure that Hamas cares who dies. There has been war in the middle east for centuries (maybe millenia) and we (the West) are crazy to think we can get to a solution. Iran may have bitten off more than they expected, if the Saudi's (who were negotiating economic relations with Israel) who also hate the Iranian regime were align with Israel and destroy the Iranian oil infrastructure. This war seems to be a very large version of fuck around and find out.
  10. Hopefully not - but turn the question, can Hamas really hold onto a few hostages and allow that to happen to the Palestinians?
  11. certainly not - they will starve 2,000,000 to get a few 100 back; flipping the switch will only encourage the militants I believe after this incursion the government, and many citizens, will believe there is no point in being a dove and offering an olive branch
  12. pretty sure the plan is to do, continue it for an indefinite period of time, and to squeeze as hard as they can looking for hostage release. This is how the Israelis negotiate hostage release.
  13. While I get what you are saying - actual meaningful cuts will be difficult to get when Military is the largest portion of discretionary spending; and the shit happening in Ukraine & Israel are not likely to lead to cuts in spending (and I don't think pursueing an isolationist theology is workable for the duration). Social Security/Medicare should be modified but few elected officials have the balls to eat their own career. I think that we should look at sale of certain assets - I think we could get decent offers for Hawaii, a few thousand oz of gold, California, should we claim the Moon (we did land there and plant a flag on the surface) or maybe lease sites there. Seriously though the biggest issue to balancing the budget and paying down debt is that interest payments are going to skyrocket due to debt balance outstanding continuing to grow and interest rates rising. At what point will people realize the problem and say (with votes) that they are willing to accept some financial pain to help ensure a more prosperous future. Though the US has done it for years it is not possible to forever borrow your way to financial stability and a stable monetary economy. So maybe the question is how far can you kick the can down the road; or are we already at a point where the pain to correct the problem is just so great that no one will be able to support that change?
  14. Cheez - you must have missed the announcement. Message Boards be serious biz, like for reals dude (and I am serious - which is why I am not posting the related meme)
  15. yeah - well the way things seem to be headed I have a candidate whose time has come and much better than what seems to be the likely choices in 2024. Couldn't hurt the economy much more that the last 50 years
  16. Certainly will Change of plans - I think we should plan on going on Hate's place; - Lake house, check - Totality of Solar eclipse, check - Surly party, check thanks for askin'
  17. Made me look at the Austin weather on weatherunderground ..... I think something must have broken on that site
