  1. Well there's a surprise. The guy that came up with the flaming CyberTruck is also a gaming CyberCuck.
  2. That crossed my mind while considering @South Austin's post on page 1 because once it gets cemented into a percentage of people's brain's "Trump is better than the Democratic Party with immigration," then they can slow up while other bsc news takes center stage because those people wouldn't believe anything else. If the economy takes a nose dive, then trot out the propaganda and videos and it's all Biden's fault once more. Regardless, wouldn't the fear strategy also work to keep wages and costs low among the ones that remain? Accessing healthcare, etc comes with too much risk?
  3. Sorry to learn of your mom's passing. Have no advice regarding legalities but do give yourself some time to feel ALL the emotions that grieving incurs. There will be moments when it sneaks up on you and it's okay to embrace those feelings when they come.
  4. The $10.00 Egg McMuffin is going to be an interesting market watch.
  5. After giving it some thought, I was trying to view your hope as not in vain, but your final conclusion is likely the correct one. While the $$ drain may end up taking its toll and cause alarm to some business sectors, there are also the strategies the GOP has floated before--child labor, for one. Or eliminating welfare, and other programs. And so on. I wondered if that was one of their schemes with eliminating taxing gratuities. They may also 'encourage' more females to return to low cost labor especially if other avenues for them begin to close due to new prohibitions on hirings (i.e. the merit myth the GOP is so hung up on) and/or having a pregnancy derail college or hs opportunities due to a lack of support. That used to seem far fetched by now it seems all too real.
  6. Poop Froots and Fart Tarts. This. This is why we need windmills.
  7. Bleach and horse paste are Covid treatments, don't you know? The protocol for bird flu is going to be antifreeze and glue, taken orally for three days or until symptoms abate. I'm pretty sure the symptoms will be gone quite quick but the prognosis is poor.
  8. Going back to Elon Musk and the German far right AdF party; Elon made a virtual speech at a rally wherein he stated that: “Children should not be guilty of the sins of their parents, let alone their great-grandparents,” and “It’s good to be proud of German culture, German values, and not to lose that in some sort of multiculturalism that dilutes everything...” Seems as if he's encouraging Germans to use the Christopher (anti-CRT/DEI) Rufo playbook wherein one focuses on white people, specifically children, being victims. Ah well, considering 1930s Germany paid close attention to U.S. history let's see how round 2 goes....
  9. Riiiiight Marco. You expect me to believe you? This is the administration that campaigned for four years while in office, including a presser at Four Seasons Landscaping courtesy of Rudy G., and now returning to office is the same administration that didn't like the fact that there were call logs kept between officials (including the President) and transcripts of those calls, and thus having likely learned their lesson this go round will either: not keep transcripts or falsify transcripts because oversight is now nonexistent. So Marco, I suspect everything you say is ass and the military was ordered to just drop 'em off OR you got played by the President of Columbia who called your bluff and now you look stupid...and are throwing a temper tantrum because you look stupid. Unfortunately that reflects upon all citizens of the US, more than half of whom will likely cheer the stupidity. Great. Wonderful. It makes me miss Angela Merkel and her expressions whenever she appeared at a function with DT.
  10. I went to the website and clicked on the little dots just to see what's up and the two in the US are thus: The one on the right: Heightened political antagonism in the United States following the reelection of Donald Trump leads to acts of domestic terrorism and political violence. Likelihood: Moderate. Impact: High The one on the left: A highly disruptive cyberattack on U.S. critical infrastructure by a state or nonstate enitity. Likelihood: Moderate. Impact: High The dot on the border between U.S. and Mexico: Deployment of US forces to the southern border triggers a humanitarian crisis among migrants and heightens tensions with Mexico. Likelihood: High. Impact: High
  11. This thread could really just be titled living under authoritarian and/or fascist regimes, as violence is a feature not a bug. Whether perpetrated by the regime itself or by citizens against the regime or each other, it's what happens when the powerful make (to quote Carlo Testa) "empty promises in response to real questions, real issues, and real problems — promises which are not kept, or are only kept to the extent that they serve the ruling classes’ own interests. The central concept is a perfunctory “symbolic” appeasement of the masses through things like direct propaganda, architecture, sports, the media, cinema, etc." These promises are made to specific groups but not others, in an attempt to "appease" them in a symbolic but meaningless way (of course that way tends to end up harming the out groups but 'fuck them others' is the fascist way) something of which most of the CR readers are already aware. The Leopards thread of reality meeting those promises is fairly benign, but the outcome should this RW bender continue, almost assuredly will get fairly gruesome. Directing violence against the ruling oligarchs is much trickier in our surveillance state nowadays. When one cannot reach the true source of one's rage, it seems the innocent further suffer as collateral damage. That's going to be beyond sad but welcome to our nightmare.
  12. Thank you for posting the article w/o the paywall. Not surprised regarding some of the author's discoveries. Even not being a member of the target demo for these podcasts, as a frequent youtube viewer/listener, I get caught up in the algorithm occasionally and the suggestions and ads associated with these accounts are rather obvious (to me) because, again, I'm not who they are trying to influence but the cuffs have been removed (not that anything was all that restrictive) and they've got a lot of eyes and ears soaking in the hate that's sprinkled in amongst the sports and other chatter so as to come across as reasonable people. Protect one's person and one's wallet when around someone who is straight up saying, "I'm a reasonable trustworthy person, see?"
  13. Sardines in a skillet with oil, lemon, garlic, and parsley is pretty darned delicious. Served on crackers, toasted bread/bagel and yeah, I dig it.
  14. Think about it for a minute though. The timberland some tribes own in Wisconsin, the mineral resources on the Pine Ridge reservation in SD and other tribal lands across the country, the casino properties, etc Just as many Japanese-Americans lost much of their assets during WWII when they were removed to camps far away from their homes, others stepped in and reaped the windfall of their labor. There are plenty of people who wouldn't bat an eyelash at this type of action. There is a good article in a recent Smithsonian magazine about a few cool Americans who did the right thing and tended farms etc for their neighbors while they were away and welcomed them back when they were able to return.
  15. These are sound ideas; if a certain Tier I SEC university isn't having too much buyer's remorse regarding the jv coach they hired after a very expensive buyout of the former coach, I would say wrap it in maroon and white and dub it The Elkmo and it will probably sell this fall for waay more than the initial purchase price. The key is the timing. Gotta act before the roller coaster hits peak velocity.
  16. Texas. Apparently (see above post by Diggler) don't mess with Texas means just leave everything everywhere.
  17. One of my 'hobbies' if you will is picking up trash as I finish my outdoor exercise. If I could catapult some of the drive through coffee shops into the sun I would do it. For what its worth, I don't think it is the boomers who are grabbing an iced coffee, drinking it, and then tossing the ice-filled cup out the window. The weight of the ice tends to force the lid off so instead of one piece of trash it's often cup plus the lid and straw. Even better is when the landscape services don't bother to stop and thus shred the plastic into pieces that are a PITA. I can fill a kitchen sized garbage bag every week (I usually pick up weekly or bi-weekly) simply walking several blocks. The little foil granola bar wrappers are another PITA. At least the shitty beer drinkers have turned to the equally shitty spiked teas and seltzers so I can spot the neon bright cans easily. The one item I don't see so much anymore? Cigarette butts. The vape cartridges have yet to match the numbers, maybe people are better about throwing those away.
  18. Anchovies. You can flavor a lot of pasta, etc with those little buggers. We even got our kids to like them early on. Sorry for the derail. Yeah, eggs are high but I was still able to get a whole chicken for a reasonable price. Bought two and froze one. You can stretch out a roast chicken (pot pie, soup, etc) for a couple of meals if you serve it with a lot of vegetable sides that first night.
  19. Definitely. I could've gone with a global list of rankings based on human rights abuses but many of the players listed above make the top 25 so it seemed pointless. The anti-abortion stance is central to the document and the rejoining may be a harbinger of the next four years w/respect to womens' reproductive healthcare in the US. Oral contraception, which many women take for reasons other than reproduction, is something I would not be surprised to see become forbidden.
  20. This was first initiated by former SoS Mike Pompeo during the first term of Trump and central to its function is preventing access to abortion, so women having children they cannot feed in impoverished countries, women dying in hospital parking lots, women becoming infertile due to late stage complications, is so much about "allowing" women more opportunities to suffer, which is exactly what Pompeo's rapture based faith seems to promote. Given that many women from these countries experience hell on earth, maybe death is welcome.
  21. Speaking of endangered species, here is a link on the proposal to place the monarch butterfly on the list. The deadline for comments will be here all too soon (March 12, 2025): https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/FR-2024-12-12/pdf/2024-28855.pdf be aware--this is not a short read, so you may wish to skip to how to submit comments with the info below... Some more info The proposal to list the monarch butterfly, and designate critical habitat, will publish in the Federal Register on December 12, 2024. A 90-day comment period will open on December 12, 2024, and will close on March 12, 2025. Information about how to submit comments can be found on regulations.gov by searching for docket number FWS-R3-ES-2024-0137. This docket also includes information about how to attend two virtual public information meetings, and associated public hearings, about this listing proposal. We are woefully behind when it comes to protection of species (lol, including our own). By the time things move to this stage, so much damage has been done. Pollinator numbers are crashing everywhere and yet we seem to think some of our food crops will just bloom and grow without them--when over 80% of flowering species need pollinators for reproduction. Anecdotally, I've certainly witnessed the decline as I have butterfly weed all over the garden. Numbers of adult monarchs and caterpillars have been way down and what is worse is that due to a longer warm season, the ones that arrive to feast and lay eggs are coming quite late and then the offspring cannot emerge from the chrysalis in time to migrate. I used to cut the weed down in the fall to encourage migration, but now it's a matter of just keeping some alive in the hopes that a percentage make it to Mexico. The western monarch (overwinters in California) is at a 95% chance of extinction while the eastern monarch is at a 56-75% chance. Not great to know that the monarch, while an iconic butterfly to most people and readily identified, is likely one of many many species that will disappear in our lifetime.
  22. However this ends up, whether it turns into a bend-the-knee for federal aid or some grifting scheme, we should never forget President Trump's visit to San Juan, Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria.
  23. Our therm is typically set from 65-67 in the colder months. We have warm clothes, blankets, socks(!), etc and the kids learned to use a microwave heatpack if they felt cool in the house. I love the winter months.
  24. Edited out the bits about the President as that has its own thread in CR, but speaking of Elon and healthcare...I never paid a whole lot of attention to the neuralink implants other than having some skepticism and also the interesting dilemma of asking for volunteers for the implants among the disabled community to be test subjects. However, now that Mr I Like Government Money and Control is in DC and has his finger in some pies in different sectors, I happened to run across some blurb about TeslaCare, a little handheld device that uses terahertz tech to "operate on the principles of energy healing, utilizing specific frequencies and heating elements to encourage the body’s innate ability to recover. " Yes, you read that correctly. Here is a pic of the device: Strangely, though, I cannot find anything that shows whether this is something manufactured by one of his companies or a quack device that is using the Tesla name to sell pseudo health care. Most of the web info is just fakey reviews and links to buy them (cheapest I saw was around $500.00) but I did locate a business startup registered in New York with a foundation date of 1/18/25. (Yes, I'm wasting my morning break time). Anywho, the domain is using a privacy filter or whatever it's called so I suspect that it's the latter--someone just using the name and trading off of it-- but the RFK Jr. nomination, if it were to succeed, would greatly benefit so many of these types of shit, whether it's Musk grabbing the $$ or some other low end grifter. I mean that game has been going on for centuries, but the wealthiest dude having access to things like the FDA (FDA approved!! You can trust us!), NIH research $$ and so on just grinds my gears.
