  1. I would love to buy the white dial Treiber for my husband but he would kill me. I prefer the pale blue/green dial for the aesthetic and the cool factor but again, that would be a no go. It's a shame as we could afford for him to have a nicer watch than his daily but he is the 'if it's not broke why fix it' type and I respect it. But, yeah, it's a beautiful watch and I'd love to spoil him with it. (actually compared to some of the other watches I like and would like to buy for him, the Treiber is not that expensive really).
  2. Gin or vodka? If gin, what brand? I'm making a roast with veg tomorrow so we went light tonight with soup plus fried sardines with lemon & garlic on wasa crackers. Spouse was cooking so I poured a batch of Italian Grayhound cocktails to use up some of the grapefruit juice we had in the fridge. Mmm, I do love those.
  3. It may be a lost art, but I'm not sure it's really a word. it's like "gifted" IMO. Why use focusness when one can use 'focus' or gifted when one can use the various forms of 'give'? As in I gave, you gave, we have given.... We are descending into grammar chaos and it's so sad.
  4. No pics because I'm lazy and I take horrible photos but ended up making a Negroni while cooking the spaghetti alla puttanesca and assembling the salad (leaf lettuce, beet greens from the garden, pickled onion, radish, and a light dressing) accompanied by a nice bordeaux: Château Le Conseiller 2016. Not an expensive wine but it'll do. I'm lightly buzzed on a Friday night. Life is good. À votré sante!
  5. Those pics are very very nice.
  6. Not so much a partier; but just having a meal and a cocktail, glass of wine, etc and conversation helps close out the work day. Making pasta tonight so a nice cab franc is on the menu.
  7. Please do take photos or blog here when you arrive; sounds like a fantastic trip and very happy for you!
  8. We've had several rounds of green beans harvested and one more batch is flowering and then that's the last of them. Tomatoes haven't ripened but are coming online soon. Lettuce is almost finished. I'm forgoing the peppers this year which is causing some regrets but after last year's heat and busy schedule I'm going to stop after the tomatoes, cukes, and zucchini are finished and hold out until fall on more veggies and just keep the flowers maintained during the worst of July/Aug.
  9. Grilled pork chops, grits, greens, and Gibsons. It's almost the weekend...
  10. He's not dead, he's just Festering...
  11. With his ten children and Supercharger Womb Room, I like how Elon is at least attempting to help his fanbois visualize what a uterus (and vagina) looks like even if it's not quite as accurate or as pleasurable as the real thing.
  12. Switched to fiction and read The God of Small Things (1997) by Arundhati Roy. Winner of the Booker Prize that same year (with some controversy) it was a compelling fascinating novel. Really enjoyed the author's method of narrative. Took some getting used to, but it worked for me as the story unfolded.
  13. ...and I'm sure the response is overwhelmingly positive and, unlike the cybertruck, enthusiastic about being washed.
  14. Incredulity, It was just a little bit after that; the first vaccines for measles were licensed around the early 60s and the school requirement came around somewhat slowly a few states at a time until pretty much all had various requirements by the early 70's. interestingly enough after there was an outbreak in Texarkana, where the measles cases among Texas children were twelve times that of Arkansas children (Arkansas had the school requirement but Texas did not), Texas got on board. By the time Carter was president, the nation was aiming for herd immunity. However, other vaccines were required for school much earlier in the 20th century such as smallpox, diphtheria, and polio.
  15. Maybe not every day, but pass me the punjabi samosa platter and a plate of mutter paneer and stand back.
  16. It isn't a new movie, but we saw H Is For Happiness (2019) last evening and it was oddball, charming, sad, and hilarious. It reminded me of the Netflix movie, Dumplin,' with Jennifer Anniston in that it takes a serious topic and its effects from the perspective of the child/teen. it's a good watch. The two movies share something else but you gotta watch it for that. Here's a trailer:
  17. It's a large country. Much history, but you're entitled to your opinion.
  18. One thing about the new Twitter/X is that without authentic verification, the Nazis can easily have multiple accounts similar to what this woman did with hers. She has at least 3 accounts apparently. People did that on the Dorsey version as well, but there was an attempt at least to minimize some of the damage due to bot swarms of hate, etc. *you're
  19. It's Monday which is that ugh, meeting day where the asshats that can't get their ish together send out the agenda about two hours before the meeting so yeah, martinis are a good plan while dinner is cooking. Cocktail: martinis with Hayman's Extra Dry London gin, Noilly Prat vermouth, and a pick with 3 Mezzetta Spanish Queen Martini Olives served with wonton soup--celery, carrots, onions, parsley from the garden, and chicken broth. Four more days to the weekend but who's counting? I guess I am!
  20. Sigh. So that's how it is in their family. j/k
  21. I don't have stats from reputable sources, the answer for status depends on a couple of things. Anyone entering the US at the border who wishes to become a legal resident must either have docs or receive the required immunizations; same with minors due to school requirements. Anyone who is arriving from a refugee camp where there has been an outbreak (of whatever disease) is also required to be vaccinated. Vaccines are offered to all IIRC. Also, every entrant must undergo a health check and that is the rub as measles (along with many other viruses) is contagious prior to symptoms appearing. After that, it's going to depend. Many of the cases appearing in the US have been due to travel back and forth from Europe and the Middle East where there are several outbreaks along with low vaccination rates in scattered pockets across the US. LAX receives a lot of travelers as do other airports in major urban areas, so like COVID, it's a gamble as to whether the afflicted would spread the illness among random people but in one of the last big outbreaks some years ago, it was travel from Israel to NYC that led to a lot of cases among the Orthodox community there (low vaccine rates). I can't remember if there were any fatalities but I think one woman miscarried after she was hospitalized.
  22. Worried about fertility and a declining birth rate? Hey, let's expose children to illnesses that can kill or maim them!
  23. Less well known and omitted from the article was the boy band Billy started: Durant Durant. I could definitely see shades of Elon that references the cybertruck in their biggest hit from the wayback machine: Hey now, woo, look at that, did he nearly run you down At the end of the drive, the lawmen arrive You make me feel alive, alive, alive I'll take my chance, 'cause luck is on my side or something I know what you're thinking, I'll tell you something, I know what you're thinking His name is Elmo, you don't need to understand And I might find him if I'm looking like I can Oh Elmo, Elmo, hear them shout across the land From eighty thousand in a month to a couple grand.
