  1. OSU moved up to third in the men's team score by placing runners in first and third in the mile.
  2. With the Heptathlon events ongoing, some results from it as well as various other updates: Day Two WOMEN Shot Put (ongoing): currently Nina Ndubuisi, Chrystal Herpin, and Marilyn Nwora hold the top three spots. Kiana Lowery is eleventh and hopefully will have a good toss as top nine are through to finals. Herpin put a personal best out there with 17.48m/57' 4 1/4" so keep it up ladies! Triple Jump (ongoing): Ackelia Smith is currently in second behind Winny Bii of OSU. 60m Hurdles (final): Emelia Chatfield (1) 7.95; Akala Garrett (6) 8.27. With a personal best, Chatfield scores 10 points for the Longhorns while Garrett earns 3 points. 60m (final): Ackelia Smith (5) 7.29. Smith earns 4 points for the Longhorns and is pulling double duty since the TJ is still competing. Rosemary Chukwuma of Texas Tech placed first 7.23 and the Tech squad also placed second and third sweeping the top three spots. MEN Triple Jump (ongoing): Kelsey Daniel is currently in second place while Solomon Washington and Jathan Belaire are eleventh and twelfth respectively. 60m Hurdles (final): Kendrick Smallwood (5) 7.70; Kody Blackwood (8) 7.96. Smallwood and Blackwood earn 5 total points for the Longhorns. 60m (final): The Longhorns had no qualifiers for the final. First place went to Don'dre Swint of Texas Tech in 6.55 and Tech athletes went 2, 4, 5, and 6 (2nd place was a tie with a Houston athlete). Heptathlon: 60m Hurdles: Brock Lewis (7) 8.39 (886 pts) Pole Vault (ongoing): Brock Lewis is currently in fifth place. Overall, Lewis has moved up to tenth place in the Heptathlon standings. TEAM SCORES WOMEN 8 of 19 EVENTS SCORED 1) Texas (49) 2) Texas Tech (40) 3) OSU (33) 4) Baylor (32) 5) OU (30) Everyone else MEN 8 of 19 EVENTS SCORED 1) Texas Tech (95) 2) Texas (48) 3) Kansas (32) 4) Houston (29.5) 5) OU (25.5) Everyone else Edit to add: still quite a few events left. The Texas men have some key events where potential scoring opportunities exist. The shot put will feature Neugebauer and Piperi for example.
  3. Weather is really beautiful today. Have almost all the beds cleaned out; lettuces are going quite well, have beets and carrots underway, and tomatoes still indoors under lights. I've got Roma, cherry, and Early Girl varieties growing from seed and will purchase a small flat of Celebrity transplants with a group of friends. We go in together to get bulk pricing and then split up the cost. Works well for those of us that have gardens large and small and don't want to waste plants. Still haven't started the Swiss Chard or the beans etc. Am very unhappy with the squirrels digging right now. Ruined a beautiful larkspur that was almost to maturity.
  4. Thank you. The tweet/video clip from an account that retweets RW influencer Ian Miles Cheong (from Malaysia) w/o irony and total innocence. Who me?
  5. Updated results from the Big 12 Indoor Championships from last evening... But before that, TEAM SCORES. WOMEN 6 of 19 EVENTS SCORED 1) OSU 33 2) Texas 32 3) OU 30 4) Baylor 27 5) KState 22 6) Iowa State 21 7) BYU 16 7) Kansas 16 9) Cincinnati 11 9) Texas Tech 11 MEN 5 of 19 EVENTS SCORED 1) Texas Tech 36 2) Texas 35 3) Kansas 32 4) OSU 21 5) Iowa State 19 6) BYU 18 7) Houston 9.5 7) OU 9.5 9) Kansas State 6 10) TCU 5 Results WOMEN Long Jump: Ackelia Smith (1) 6.74m/22' 1 1/2", Aaliyah Foster (3) 6.34m/20' 9 3/4". Smith and Foster scored 10 and 6 points, respectively, for the Longhorns. 5000m: Eva Jess (7) 16:20.48. Winner, Taylor Roe of OSU, ran a meet and facility record 15:32.03. Jess scored 2 points for the Longhorns. DMR: Texas (11). First place won by West Virginia 11:18.08 MEN Long Jump: Leo Neugebauer (1) 7.92m/26'; Jathan Belaire (2) 7.67m/25' 2"; Solomon Washington (7) 7.47m/24' 6 1/4"; Kelsey Daniel (9) 7.43m/24' 4 1/2". Earning 10, 8, and 2 points for first, second, and seventh, Neuegebauer and Belaire also jumped personal best distances in their medal winning event. Daniel was just two inches and a little bit of sand shy of 8th place which would have earned him a point. Weight Throw: Jeremiah Nubbe (1) 22.79/74' 9 1/4". With a personal best throw, Nubbe earns 10 points for the Longhorns. Pole Vault: Connor Boenig (12) 5.08/16' 8". First place winner Clayton Simms of Kansas vaulted 5.68/18' 7 1/2. Simms has the fourth best vault in the nation this season with this PB. 5000m: Isaac Alonzo (9) 14:16.08; Haftu Knight (DNF); Ernest Cheruiyot of Texas Tech placed first with a facility record time of 13:42.08. He would need to drop ~forty seconds from this time to catch Northern Arizona's Nico Young's nation leading time (for perspective). DMR: Texas (4) 9:40.04. The DMR team earned 5 points for the Longhorns but it was going to be awfully tough to best OSU's performance. Setting meet and facility records with a time of 9:29.41, the most exciting part was that the second place BYU squad (9:29.98) was in the lead until the last leg when Ryan Schoppe put the pedal down to best the Cougars. (Schoppe is a graduate of La Porte HS, winning UIL State XC in 2019, runner up in '18. ) Day Two will begin late morning and conclude with the 4X400 Relays. Good luck to all the athletes participating.
  6. More qualifiers, results, etc. Will be the last update until tomorrow although events will continue until 8:00 PM CST. WOMEN Weight Throw: Kiana Lowery (7) 18.14/59' 6 1/4" Monique Hardy of KSU places first--21.11/69' 3 1/4". Lowery had the unfortunate meet where the fouls outnumbered the clean throws. Lowery scores 2 points towards Texas team score. Pole Vault: Kaeli Thompson (7) 4.20/13' 9 1/4". Alencia Lentz of Baylor places first--4.50/14' 9" (meet record). Thompson scores 2 points for the Longhorns. Mile (prelim): No Longhorn athletes competed in this event. Billah Jepkirui of OSU has the leading qualifying time of 4:40.95. 60m (prelim): Ackelia Smith qualifies. Kenondra Davis just misses out by placing 11th overall (8 advance, top in each heat plus next 4 fastest times). 600 yard (prelim): Ackala Garrett qualifies. Mackenize Brown (12) does not advance. 400m( prelim): Ziyah Holman, Lauren Lewis, and Dejanea Oakley all advance to the final. 1000m (prelim): Amity Ebarb just misses out qualifying by placing 9th, one spot away. 800m (prelim): Olivia Howell (5) qualifies. 200m (prelim): Dejanea Oakley advances with the leading time, Kenondra Davis does not advance. Women's events ongoing, still to come this evening are Long Jump (final), 5000m (final) and DMR (final) *Eva Jess (7) in the 5000m but result is not final. MEN 60m (prelim): Nolton Shelvin (10), Marcellus Moore (13), and John Rutledge (20) did not qualify for the finals. 600 yard (prelim): Elijah Mosley advances to the final, Chris Brinkley and Cole Lindhorst do not advance. *Lindhorst may have had something happen during the race, his official time was way off. 400m (prelim): Brian Herron and Logan Popelka advance to the finals. 1000m (prelim): Yusef Bizimana advances to the final, Christopher Riley does not. 800m (prelim): Daniel Howells qualifies for the final. 200m (prelim): John Rutledge advances to the final (in the final spot), Nolton Shelvin misses the finals by two places, and Marcellus Moore does not advance. Overall Team Standings: WOMEN (4 of 19 events) 1,1) Oklahoma, OSU 25 3) Baylor 19 4) KSU 18 5) Texas 16 6) Kansas 13 MEN No events scored
  7. But why did the meme creator use someone who resembles Jimbo Fisher, cause the one thing Fisher doesn't have to do for the next seven years is take out a loan on a big old truck.
  8. Awesome! Kristine Blazevica blazed right into the lead winning the 800 meters, the final pentathlon event! Women's Pentathlon 800m: Kristine Blazevica (1) 2:13.89 (908 pts) Overall Pentathlon result: Kristine Blazevica (1) (4430 pts) scoring 10 points for the Longhorn Team Score.
  9. Blazevica is currently in second place overall with 3522 points in the pentathlon, seventeen points behind Angel Richmore of OU with just the 800m race to go. IIRC, Richmore used to run for SFA. Also: Women's 60m Hurdles (prelim): Emelia Chatfield (2) and Akala Garrett (5) both qualify for Saturday's final. Men's 60m Hurdles (prelim): Kendrick Smallwood (5) and Kody Blackwood (7) also qualify for Saturday's final, barring any unseen problems with the final result.
  10. I am sitting here with my tongue rolling over my teeth wondering exactly what MTG is going to do with the word, "disgorgement" in her hot twitter take.
  11. Blasphemer. It's Prefontaine, aka 'Pre." RIP to one of the greats.
  12. Running events have begun as have some field events while the pentathlon and heptathlon are ongoing. The women's long jump results are being finalized but it appears that Blazevica placed second in that event, with just the 800m remaining. Men's Heptathlon High Jump: Brock Lewis (12) 1.81m/5' 11 3/4" (636 pts). Phillip Frank of OSU placed first--1.99/6' 6 1/4" (794 pts) Lewis has 2697 (-616) points overall and at the conclusion of today's Heptathlon events is in twelfth place. Overall leader is Grant Levesque of Houston with 3313 points.
  13. Women's Pentathlon Shot Put: Kristine Blazevica (4) 12.91m/42' 4 1/4" (721 pts). Urte Bacianskaite of Kansas State placed first--15.42m/50' 7 1/4" (889 pts). Blazevica's point total is now 2623. The long jump is in progress so the overall standings are a bit messy right now. She will be in the top three most likely. **Right now she is 57 points behind Richmore of OU for the overall title.** Hook 'em!

It's also rather sad that the social media 'experts' are so blind to their perspective that they cannot conceive that a school might have a larger indigenous population (some of whom may be from several demographic categories). One of the teachers at my HS was elected chief after he retired from education. He was a good man.
  15. Some results from the Big Twelve Indoor Champs meet thus far.... The pentathlon and heptathlon began this morning and several of those events have concluded. Women's Pentathlon 60m Hurdles: Kristine Blazevica (1) 8.42 (1035 pts). Blazevica was in Heat 5. High Jump: Kristine Blazevica (6) 1.71m/5' 7 1/4" (867 pts) Angel Richmore of OU placed first--1.80m/5' 10 3/4" (978 pts) Blazevica currently has 1902 points and is fourth overall. Men's Heptathlon 60m: Brock Lewis (12) 7.31 (775 pts) Grant Levesque of Houston placed first--6.70 (992 pts) Long Jump: Brock Lewis (9) 6.66m/21' 10 1/4" (734 pts). Grant Levesque of Houston placed first--7.03m/23' 0 3/4" (821 pts) Lewis totaled 1509 points after that event for eleventh place. Shot Put: Brock Lewis (11) 11.10/36' 5" (552 pts). Grant Levesque of Houston placed first--14.08m/46' 2 1/2" (733 pts) Lewis currently has 2061 points and is in twelfth place. The women's shot put results are not yet final, but it looks like Blazevica may be second (to Richmore of OU) in the overall pentathlon points when that event is concluded.
  16. Well, it's like this. While some of the Ledge & Lanai dwellers were discussing the GOP plan regarding the systematic erosion of rights for specific demographics, the GOP was engaging in a very flashy campaign against drag queens, CRT, books, and whatnot. That rightfully got a lot of attention because it was a multi-pronged attack against various groups whose rights are endangered but it also deflected from some of the culture that has been hiding in plain sight, so to speak. Twenty (or more) Kids and Counting aired for seven years (but ultimately couldn't survive the Josh scandal); Sister Wives began over a decade ago and is still airing. So, yes, after the reproductive years are completed, women are supposed to continue caregiving for the babies, and step aside for whomever man has chosen as the replacement. Her sex life is done but he's got the little blue pill and God's blessing to continue because..... reasons. The Civil Rights Act really really got their underwear in a twist, every step forward from that to scratch and claw for equal protections and rights under the law just affirmed their belief that everything wrong with (their) world is due to these "others" not bending to their will (which is interpreted as God's will) and they've been slowly gaining steam. "It's bad when (insert other religion here) do it, but we are a Christian nation and when we do it, it's justified." Like Carville stated, this is a deeply held belief, and yes, the American version of religious extremism is going for broke.

  19. Perhaps because we are no more a monolithic group than any other. I can think of so many reasons why some women do not view it as 'against' other women as well as why some women do view it thusly and are fine with that. I could soap box on this for four paragraphs but perhaps not today. It's pretty sad but again, there will always be pushback when marginalized groups advocate for their rights and those who do not wish for certain groups to have agency will never stop trying to remove that agency.
  20. I shouldn't have laughed but I did. On point. @YGIFS I wish I knew. As a random guess, seems that many women just don't pay enough attention; specifically to the long term consequences and outcomes of voting/not voting/supporting specific policies. You'd think they would, but if they're in the 'burbs, the insulation of 'well that won't affect me' takes root (until it does), or the inertia of actively confronting the discomfort of "I never vote Democrat" and/or "I'm X (insert some identity be it religious, single issue, monetary, subservient) therefore I vote GOP" is too much with whatever else they have going on in their lives. If they attend a church that has gone political, then it's heard from the pulpit. If they belong to a Mom's group, a PTO, a Yoga pod, etc then they have to go against them and the social ramifications if it is GOP leaning. I think it was @pyrohornIII or someone else that recently commented on how difficult and lonely it can be to swim upstream against the gerrymandered and small mindedness of Texas communities and I have to believe that exists in a lot of places, not just Texas and including ones where right leaning candidates are in the minority. For some, it spurs activism but others are going to go to the poll and vote how they vote. The word "feminist" has successfully been turned into a pejorative by those in power even though its meaning is simply that societies prioritize the male view/perspective and that women are treated unjustly in these types of societies and thus advocate for change. The wheel keeps on turning.
  21. Shame that Marjorie's phone works; was kind of hoping that the outage would have provided some much needed calm to the cellular seas.
  22. I've been fighting against the idea that all suburban women vote that way, but it's amazing how many women fret over the supposed grooming by people in drag costume reading books to their children but are blind to the numbers of ecclesiastical abuses perpetrated by youth pastors, camp counselors, and the church leaders who provide cover for the abusers and lack of oversight over any of the programs. The queen promoting literacy in a library surrounded by witnesses is around a child/children for thirty minutes only occasionally (if one even chooses to attend) but the youth pastor is spending every week with that child/teen sometimes multiple times a week. Parents are frequently elsewhere participating in other church events, or have dropped the child off at camp, or it's an after school program such as Young Life or something similar. Most of these children attend schools that are predominately higher SES and yet, the idea that immigrant=thug amongst their parents is endemic.
  23. Embarrassment in what way exactly? Our allies have been quite supportive of the current administration whereas Putin has been determined to regain the independent republics that the former Soviet Union lost. Other authoritarian led countries have also been anxious because the WH no longer has the pay to play sign out. Economically, coming out of a global pandemic plus quite a few climate disasters, things are uncertain but still better than what was initially forecast what with several wars ongoing, rise of 'antidemocratic' rulers, and corporate greed and enshittification (SEE: the DT thread which says it all). Congress is not earning their salary at this point in time. Why are we not demanding that they do so? So much reform is possible with immigration, healthcare, employment (hello families?), and consumer protections from the monopolization of goods and services and bought politicians (thank you so much Citizens United and the reprobate majority justices) but now everything is performative, grifting nonsense that keeps those foreign authoritarian leaders and home grown oligarchs drooling over the spoils that are sure to come if we turn to the 'law and order' authoritarian leader on the home front. Because the law will bind many but only the foolish think they will emerge unscathed as being 'above the law,' should that come to be.
