  1. In Michigan, health officials are scrambling due to two adults with confirmed measles diagnoses visited several facilities attempting to get treatment. The contact tracing at the health facilities was somewhat easier due to visitors usually checking in with name and other information, but the adults also visited a CVS as well and thus everyone is crossing fingers that more cases don't crop up there. Here is a letter to the editor in the Tampa Bay times from a 92 year old reader who had the measles long ago: https://www.tampabay.com/opinion/2024/03/06/i-had-measles-86-years-ago-dr-ladapo-heres-what-my-life-has-been-like-letters/
  2. This just cracks me up for more than one reason but the main one is that when I spent some time living in a northern state, I made a pretty good sum from selling my "southern" used car because it was in good shape: properly maintained and most importantly: NO RUST because I had been domiciled where there was no snow and no road salt. Now Elonstans are buying a vehicle that acquires rust (and eventually corrodes) if it gets wet, salt not necessary. Yeesh. Talk about buying an automobile from the carnival midway. Clown show. Also: here is the fact check regarding the airline flights referred to by disingenuous political and billionaire malcontents and dupes (spoilered because it mentions the President and thus may trigger some people who are CR sensitive)
  3. I've been rather teetotally lately because I've been trying to keep the BP low but it was nice to have some wine with dinner tonight. Meatloaf leftovers and a couple of glasses of red and away we go...
  4. That's on my list but I'm a high number on the library holds for it so I'll have to wait my turn. About 3 chapters in on this one, At The Existentialist Cafe: Freedom, Being, and Apricot Cocktails by Sarah Bakewell. I have zero background in philosophy and a post by @safe sex that mentioned Sartre intrigued me so here I am.
  5. My older brother did this but he became a programmer with HP and EDS. Wicked smart.
  6. It was indeed; it's also a matter of perspective because my experience with an unwanted assault by a stranger was different. Had he kissed his fiance and thanked the nurse, the photo might not have happened, but if the late Nurse Friedman was forgiving of the moment, then I am willing to consider her perspective as well.
  7. Your last sentence was what drove Adam Kinzinger to vote for the second impeachment, only one of ten Republicans to do so. (Just finished his book that came out last year). Kinzinger served in the military and was aghast at the betrayal of the oath of office. He paid for his vote by being shunned, but it was the right thing to do. Edit addition: that was not the only reason for the vote, but the entire event resonated with him because of the significance of the certification.
  8. Back story that is not germane to the thread title of CRT at UT, but then again, what Rufo has amplified is not germane to CRT either:
  9. Obama: An Intimate Portrait (2017) was worth checking out from the library just to remember so many events from the former President's two terms. Souza took some great, great photos. Almost through with former congressperson (IL) Adam Kinzinger's Renegade, which was released last year. Kinzinger was one of ten Republicans that voted for former President Donald Trump's impeachment (the second one) after the events of January 6th. He was in his office in an adjacent building when the Capitol was breached. Writing is a little stilted (although he had a co-author).
  10. Jimmyjazz speaks truth. This is not something new. In addition, the bill to which the former speaker refers was passed in 2022 in the House but languished in the Senate due to stalling by the GOP. March 22 marks the date (52 years ago) that single women were "given" the right to use birth control by SCOTUS ( 1972 Eisenstadt v. Baird). Prior to that, it was only married women who had the legal right to obtain and use birth control (due to Griswold v. Connecticut in 1965). Ironic that the word control is and always has been about who is "allowed" to wield it.
  11. Also, Tara Davis-Woodhall leaps 7.07 meters winning gold in the long jump, the former Longhorn was joined on the podium by American Monae' Nicholas who finished second.
  12. That would be an interesting dilemma especially with NIL and the portal growing in importance over the last year. There are 14,780 black males playing DI football along with 10,939 white males, and 5003 males who fit other demographic categories (two or more races, native american, etc). If you shrink that to just FBS schools with autonomy (the power schools), then those numbers are: 3923 (black), 2999 (white), and 1,472 (other incl two or more races etc).
  13. From the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow, outdoor world record holder Ryan Crouser has a new title to add to his collection: Shot Put Indoor Champion. With his best toss of 22.77m setting a championship record, Crouser earns first place and receives a little redemption from two years earlier when he set a championship record toss of 22.44m only to be bested by Brazilian Darlan Romani with 22.53m. Way to go Ryan Crouser!
  14. CDC report as of 2/29 has 41 cases across 16 states. Texas is not listed as one of the states, so I would be interested to know if the cases at Texas Childrens are confirmed and if so, why the CDC has not got them listed.
  15. In Elon's mind, this makes sense to him (the 'never went to therapy' statement). First of all, HE didn't see a therapist for himself. They (WE) went to a marital therapist which wasn't for HIM, it was for THE MARRIAGE, because the first Mrs. Musk suggested (I'm guessing) it. So HE never went to therapy. Second, if he didn't participate in the marital therapy it was because it was not as cut and dried as "I'm right and she's wrong," and thus he has never been to therapy because the word therapy comes from the Modern Latin word therapia which is derived from the Greek word therapeia which meant "curing, healing, service done to the sick" and Elon does not ever consider himself sick in that way. In Elon's world, his mind is obviously not in need of therapy nor an implant because it is perfect.
  16. Of the four books I've read recently, (Burn It Down, Opinions, What Are The Seven Wonders Of The World, and God Save Texas); it's been brought to my attention (family dinner table conversation) that I've got a rather eclectic taste in reading materials but I'm taking that as a compliment. Of the four most recent, I've liked the last two the best. I'm set to read former WH photographer Pete Souza's pretty book Obama: An Intimate Portrait (2017) on former president Barack Obama next. I've been wanting to grab that one from the library for a while. What a job that must be, to photograph presidents.
  17. Hmm, I haven't seen that in the news yet. That's not great.
  18. The front that came through this week had some very strong winds from way north down to Texas. It just accelerates and dries as it blows.
  19. Florida has a total of ten cases as of today. Nine in the county of the initial first report and one in another county by an individual (adult) who was traveling internationally.
  20. If the microplastics are in the placenta and eventually in the babies' cells then why don't babies float when you throw them in the water?
  21. That's human trafficking of minors across state lines, my good sir. I suggest you reconsider that proposal. However, if you establish a facility in Texas, and have it *accredited by the Texas Private School Accreditation Commission (TPSAC) as a private boarding school (No registration, licensing, or approval required) and you could wire up some speakers to pipe in some classical bro-country music to the freezers and you're likely good to go. Talk to one of your CPA people--you might be able to do this tax free. *I think on the TSBOE site accrediting is optional as well, really. Texas is shitastic for education.
  22. I saw Mayor Woodfin's (of Birmingham) comments regarding Alabama and I don't know the logistics of his idea but I support it.
  23. 😎
