  1. It's hard to find one that is a head to toe shot to know for sure. He was wearing a boot (single) that was strapped to his foot for awhile.
  2. Well, if you get any snow then you know what to do: My parents used to talk about this ^^I guess it was a thing back in the day with this radio guy.
  3. His name is Dave Sheets and your father is surprised he took the washer/dryer when he left? There's an entire thread about asshole stuff like that here: https://www.surlyhorns.com/board/topic/33511-shart-2024-whats-that-spot-on-the-bathroom-floor/#comment-5884309
  4. Cloak Room 2024 going to be a wild ride.
  5. It's a head scratcher. He could've gone into real estate and given his fondness for conspiracy theories probably would've excelled. I mean Roger Staubach made some folding money that way. (From real estate not tin foil hatting.) Or co-own a car dealership (John Elway)and make his own commercials if it's eyeballs he wants. Out of work QBs don't have to sell low T supplements to make a living if they pull themselves up by their bootstraps.
  6. If he doesn't want to get his doors bumped then he should buy a smaller truck; or if he needs that size then he should park farther away in the uncovered lot towards the back. That solves the door ding problem but there's little remedy for his douchiness.
  7. I love John Wick. Retired, just trying to grieve over his wife's passing and they. killed. his. dog. and. stole. his. car. Oh, and Drive was mentioned--great movie there. Some off-the-wall not completely tongue-in-cheek selections for your consideration (I make no claims that all of these would make the greatest movies list): Snow White and the Huntsman (2012) (with Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth, and Charlize Theron) where a young lass, persecuted for her beauty learns how to wield a dagger and fight back against lookism. Big Jake (1971) (John Wayne, Maureen O'Hara, Richard Boone). Guy trying to make a living as a rancher and goes after grandkid rustlers. Boondock Saints (Willem Dafoe, Sean Patrick Flanery, Norman Reedus, Billy Connolly) Sometimes when you live in a neighborhood without an HOA it's always a fight to keep it clean. Cruella (2021) (Emma Stone, Emma Thompson, Mark Strong, Joel Fry, Paul Walter Hauser, John McCrea) Precocious artist wants to live her life designing beautiful garments but an evil-minded crone has other plans until young Estella realizes her potential for mayhem and vengeance. The Odyssey (1997 TV miniseries) (Armand Assante, Isabella Rossellini, Bernadette Peters, Greta Scacchi, Eric Roberts, Christopher Lee, Vanessa Williams et al) Veteran wants to go home after the war and the real world whole lotta strange events won't stop hasslin' him so he has to keep fighting.
  8. Women and minorities with a target on their back in the current political climate? I'm shocked, shocked I tell you. The old "well we need to judge people on merits therefor DEI talk is bad, 'kay" that quickly morphs into "YOU people (and you know who I mean) don't have the merit to be in these positions and we'll decide what that is."
  9. He was also in Trouble With The Curve and outclassed by Eastwood, Adams, Goodman, and Matthew Lillard, etc. Heck even the guy that played the prima donna slugger who couldn't hit a curve ball was better.
  10. He was too busy purchasing bleach. BULOVA! SWATCH! TIMEX!
  11. Nope, we traveled through DV this summer and while it was higher than TX, it wasn't that high. Also were driving around the PNW in the mountains in the fall and still wasn't 8 bucks. Maybe he means jet fuel for his lil plane?
  12. I'm rather fond of the phrase Mr. Rogers used to use (it was even in the movie about him where Tom Hanks was in the titular role): anything mentionable is manageable. It may not fit every single situation (i.e. under the not every thought has to be uttered because sometimes it's mean or rude) but when it comes to feelings, emotions, perspectives, experiences I think he was very very good at helping us understand how to cope with ourselves in positive ways. Coping, that's what we do even when we don't realize it, we cope with ourselves and the world around us. We have good habits and bad habits and flaws and foibles and experiences and ways of being and all the things that makes us who we are. Coping has a slightly negative connotation perhaps coming from its definition (to deal with and attempt to overcome problems and difficulties) or even from its ancient and obsolete meaning (to strike/to fight) but IMO, it doesn't have to be: coping is living and that is what living beings do, deal with and overcome the problems related to life on this planet. We don't have to fight (with ourselves), we can be allies and finding peace within ourselves and with others allows us to flourish. I'm glad you're feeling better today.
  13. I probably should've kept them but we moved a number of times and so I ended up keeping the Betty Crocker cookbook that belonged to my spouse's grandmother but let go of some real gems w/respect to wtf recipes. The regional and/or church cookbooks or the ones the natural gas companies used to hand out are rather enlightening when one considers historical events of the time period, food supply chains, locale, social aspirations, food science and nutrition, and so on. To continue your theme, here is something BC labels as "Mexican Ambrosia" circa 1956: Heap snowy shredded coconut over slice of fresh or drained canned pineapple on each dessert plate. I give the Betty (as we call it) some credit where credit is due, however. For the young person starting out on their own, it was a nice supplement to whatever one picked up at home--techniques and tested recipes that were very basic and easy to read. Not intimidating in the slightest. While THE Julia was an entertaining and educational cook, so too was the BC brand (aligned with the products mainly General Mills) as it morphed from a radio program to a television show and the pamplets and cookbooks. Maybe a little bit of hokey capitalism but for cooks in areas where certain kinds of ingredients were nonexistent or barely heard of, at least one could become a capable enough provider of meals.
  14. I miss @Bama Chick Don't know if Harry Styles finally ran away with her after his "Love On Tour" 2023 and she's living it up but I hope she's doing okay.
  15. The beans and then the bologna being rolled to resemble a quasi tamale? I got rid of most of the old cookbooks I inherited (which I occasionally regret) and it was quite the read to examine them from today's perspective.
  16. There were what? 167 GOP members who objected to election cert back in 2021 on the fateful day? How many of them have stood up and done anything that indicates leadership, governance, and in the words of their oath taken: that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God. 2024 is going to be a bigger shitshow than 2020 was.
  17. Me, on Jeopardy: I'll take litter boxes and their contents for $500.
  18. This. I put one in all of our bathrooms at home so we can all take care of our business (whether that's sleeping or otherwise) without disturbing others. Plus, there's nothing like jamming my pinky toe on the footboard to wake up the entire household while I fall to the ground with a thud whimpering. Dang, that hurts way more than it should considering one of my babies weighed almost nine pounds.
  19. Goulash (casserole) with pan braised brussel sprouts and a cab that was better than the one the other night. I need to pay more attention to the quality of our bottles but I'm kinda cheap for the table wines. Got the game on but now that it's UWash vs the Cheaters not all that into it cause it's just wrong. Cheers!
  20. First, I don't live where you do so my choices are slightly amended by that number. Second, if I want a nice barbacoa taco or a really good lunch plate with a killer salsa verde I will go to the mom and pop taqueria within a half mile of my house. Torchy's has the odd taco (like the Mr. Orange) that my mom and pop place aren't interested in serving and that's also fine. They both get my $$ only now it looks like I'm staying closer to home for all the tacos.
  21. Be interesting to watch a Surgeon General and gutted CDC under DeSantis go for the herd immunity approach with infectious diseases when measles, mumps, and polio return.
  22. IIRC the case that brought this forward was that of Dexter Wade. Run over by a police cruiser and had identification. (Story here: https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/dexter-wade-buried-mississippi-id-home-address-lawyer-says-rcna125511 ) His mother reported him missing and they had a home address, so why not stop by or send a letter if no one answers the telephone? @atomheartbevo mentioned this in his post and it was Mr. Wade's death that led to the rest of the investigation. Like was mentioned earlier, poverty has much to do with ill treatment of citizens as well as race, and considering Texas treats its living foster care children as if a potter's field is their only future, Mississippi is not alone in not wanting to consider the incomprehensible ways in which citizens are born, live, and die w/o dignity.
