  1. Is some of this coming from the "trad fam" types who want the young males to be paired off before the female has a chance to develop her own ideas, thoughts, and plans for her future? Between the Andrew Tate types and the evangelical dating = courtship to marriage, it seems to be some of the same backlash against educated females being able to leave unsatisfactory and/or abusive marriages w/o becoming destitute or when males decide to trade in first model for updated younger model, again, not plunging the first wife into disarray because she can advocate for herself. In our culture, there is still a fair amount of 'boys pursue sex' with no family/societal shame but girls are not "permitted" to admit to have desires period. (Eve in the garden syndrome). It's toxic for whatever gender to which it's applied.
  2. Big blessings to @immamac for the party planning as that was some work and same for all you degenerates who are living the good life in NOLA for the weekend. Enjoy and make memories and soak it all up. Rooting for the win; nice to see it come together for the team, the staff, and the fans.
  3. Does the military have a JV? Cause he has always struck me as strictly JV material. Varsity if daddy makes a substantial contribution to the school sports club fund for a banner.
  4. It may be too late now, but often the discount stores (Target, etc) will have a selection of basic team gear and you can filter the search engine for stores in your vicinity and then further filter for size. Nothing fancy, but usually t-shirts and such.
  5. They, and you, will likely keep on truckin' in '24. Madonna is a selection only due to some of the plastic surgery. That can mess with one's health if one overdoes it, although she's got access to quality doctors if she so chooses. Ezra Miller is the young dark horse but I'd read that he's (they're) getting some healthcare/treatment/counseling so I wish them (him) well. *Ezra uses them/them pronouns but I know it gets a little confusing in a post that mentions multiple names.
  6. I'm going with last year's list minus Feinstein who was the one entry who did actually pass away. So tagging into her spot will be Sylvester Stallone. 1. Sylvester Stallone (77) 2. Donald Sutherland (88) 3. Morgan Freeman (86) 4. Michael Gambon (83) Oops, I guess I had two entries in 2023. Somehow missed that he passed. Okay, #4 is Madonna (65) 5. Martin Sheen (83) 6. Bill Parcells (82) 7. Debbie Harry (78) 8. Linda Ronstadt (77) 9. Richard Dreyfuss (76) 10. Ezra Miller (31)
  7. I had Diane Feinstein as number one and she passed away at age 90 but Ezra Miller was heading down the path but seems to have righted his ship...
  8. Our holidays have been pretty sane; I've been cooking and baking a lot and whenever the football games have been boring (ie teams that I don't really care about or blowouts) then I go for a walk and leave the guys to watch the games and talk. I did hit the wine pretty hard when I made short ribs because the recipe uses two cups of wine and I hate to let the rest just sit there when I could drink it so I do have that going for me...but some of y'all have some interesting family dynamics to say the least. Pretty much just waiting for the big games on the first and making sure everyone is fed and watered until then. Happy New Years!
  9. I'm sure it's a lot of screen time/damage. I will say that many years ago I complained (karen-like) at the desk at the doctor when Fox was on, pointing out that some of the images were very inappropriate and that must've gotten their attention. Every visit after that the tv was always on Food Network. It made the bloodwork visits (with fasting) a little drool worthy, but I'd rather sit and watch food than Fox while I wait.
  10. We've been AAA members for a long time and within several states. Has come in handy on more than one occasion. Ditto the remarks on California--way better experience than any Texas DMV I've ever encountered with respect to wait time, services, etc. In unexpected circumstances the AAA discount has also been a nice boon.
  11. I don't know if this counts per the original post, but I'm thoroughly unamused by the corporate marketing drive to app or 'join' everything. I say "No, thank you." Salesperson: "don't you want to save money by joining our program?" I, of course, would like to save money. However, they turn around and sell that data (most do, but there are a few that don't). Or they want me to pay a yearly fee so that I will somehow feel compelled to buy stuff in order to make up for that fee. Again, no. With respect to online--show me the charges for shipping and I'll decide whether I want to buy the product, I'm cheap like that. But with local businesses having less and less inventory, it's getting slightly more difficult to do that. Healthcare is trending the same way with their large franchise operations now for dentist offices, etc. Makes one feel so secure knowing that the SSNs and (cashless systems) card #s are in the same databases that have some not great security. With respect to maps, we made our children learn how to use paper maps because reasons and you'd have thought we were placing them in prison by their complaints. Kind of like when we made sure they could tell analog time, etc. Sometimes a person just needs to know how the concept originally was designed to work before it was improved or shittified.
  12. Hazarding a guess, it could be from that giant Aggie gear warehouse that's down the road from their stadium and not too far from the airport. We've attended the NCAA indoor championships (track) in past years, and that place had a lot of clearance items (from who knows how many years back) on tables so maybe he found a bargain right when he hit town after the big announcement.
  13. Go back further to the subject of the Arthur Miller play with a similar title--perhaps Justice Devine identifies as a prosecutor from the Salem Witch trials of the 1700s and the forging he is talking about is his imagining all us shameful sinful wommens burning burning burning. Devine gotta blame them women for the forging of his convictions (I state it that way because doesn't it seem as if he would have no moral standing or convictions whatsoever if it were not for women and their reproductive freedom and choices? Weird weird man)
  14. Awkward and dorky and unskilled with conversational timing, while unfortunate, when paired with kindness and a sincerity of heart should never be bullied but perhaps gently mentored and guided along. It isn't just in the movies that those folks can surprise you with a genius moment or a loyalty and love of which many of us are incapable. Ted is way past that. He is cruel, he is elitist though as @atomheartbevostates Cruz pretends he is anything but. He delights in making fun of people who cannot fight back. Does he do many of these things awkwardly? Of course, but I do maintain that there is a stout difference between the likes of Senator Cruz and the mood dampening dorky dude that can't quite read the room.
  15. Although I have, along with many of his constituents, tried to speak with his office and found his voicemail box full, I have never met this representative. However, Senator Ted gives off the the very distinct vibe of someone who desperately hopelessly wants to be liked, to belong somewhere that the people he thinks matters (not us, somehow his constituents are probably deemed as not the people he is trying to impress) will give him the stamp of acceptance. If you think I feel sorry for him, then you'd be wrong. For it is entirely within his means to seek counsel with a professional who could help him work through his issues but instead, we the people, are to be the means by which he seeks retribution and affirmation that he is not an asshole or an outsider who doesn't quite fit in, who brings the cringe first and foremost to every event in which he attends. Nothing wrong with cringe (for most of us); if it's harmless and hurts no one I say lean into it and embrace it. But Ted? Ted Cruz is a modern day *Roger Chillingsworth seeking vengeance for the wrongs he perceives perpetuated against him. Perhaps not an exact reflection, but Ted is warped beyond recognition and that alone is enough to warrant the comparison. Hester Prynne's husband from The Scarlet Letter if it's been awhile for readers.
  16. OMG, that pic is adorable. And yes, your trees are amazing but I'd agree that the one in question is probably not ideal with respect to the trunk and the diverging branches.
  17. I was rather offended by the former president referring to a certain female senator from Massachusetts by that sobriquet but now you've created an image in my mind that I wish you hadn't. Thanks so much.
  18. Ginny has been susceptible to cultish thinking for many many years. One would think that after she left Lifespring and became aware of the dangers of group-think that she would be rather vigilant regarding her thoughts and beliefs; after all--we're all susceptible to a certain extent to conspiracy theories, misinformation, and other promotions that prey on our emotions--but Ginni has, thanks to power and influence, embraced and spread her anxiety over her own insecurities to a large swath of believers in the GOP. Her parents were members of the John Birch Society so perhaps in her mind there is a commie libtard around every corner waiting to wrest her from her comfortable life she's lived. Who knows? But she's a consistent meddler and behind the scenes lobbyist for her beliefs.
  19. When the patient is female, there is no such thing as a HIPAA violation. GOP gendarme out front should have told you. W/O going back and rereading the article, I think she was charged with abuse of a corpse? Perhaps the hospital called because of the various laws that have been enacted to pursue criminal charges surrounding females and abortions/fetuses/etc and hospitals are very risk averse to things of that sort wouldn't you say? Better to deflect any potential damages criminal or financial onto the victim. (which in this case was not the fetus unless you count the hospital sending the patient womb host home multiple times)
  20. I framed it as especially true for females because there is this stubborn idea that females have all the power: we can say no or we can say yes, we can use birth control or not, we can give birth or end the pregnancy, but in every case is that truly females having the power if at every turn there is a judgement (by males and society) that we are flawed no matter which of those we 'choose'? Make no mistake, this is as harmful to males as it is to females, but as soon as females begin exercising the choice to get educated and gain some autonomy (admit to having a sex drive, wanting a career, voting, having financial independence), here comes society saying, "yeah no and here are a bunch of reasons why we need you to go back to the way things were when you couldn't do any of those things." SEE: Media articles outlining recent legislation, population decline, etc etc etc. Females certainly have plenty to answer for with respect to the choices we make, but perhaps it is the very real awareness of some pretty smart and educated young people females who see their position in the impossible dilemma in which they've been placed and the communities around them (families, friends, online communities, influencers, media, etc) that consistently buzz in their ear like a thousand mosquitos about who and what they're supposed to be or THEY ARE WRONG AND AT FAULT. None of that matters anyway because they are always wrong and at fault. Hell, it makes me pretty sad on their behalf. Having said that, we certainly parented our children with a mixture of sexual education and guidance towards understanding choices and consequences and boundaries that they ought to consider as they navigated adolescence and young adulthood. Abstinence for the right reasons is not 'bad,' but the culture of shame surrounding the female sex drive is abhorrent.
  21. One of the issues I have with it is what you've outlined above but it's worth noting that the emphasis is primarily on females. Which leads to the second issue, simply the word 'purity' and this was mentioned before as well. The opposite of pure is soiled, dirty, impure, to be held at arm's length. Having the belief, as many evangelicals do, that the male is the head of household and dominant over all, it funnels as does much of religious (extremism in particular) thought towards females are the sin eaters of society. Every guilty thought, every illicit act, every dirty desire that soils the soul, every sin and it's resulting consequence is always the fault of the female forever and ever, amen. Males can say, 'oh no, women have their role within our church, we venerate them for being obedient wives and mothers, etc' but after some discussion one realizes that the flow chart returns back to that one overarching belief that women are to suffer for not being male and to take that suffering and never blame males for it. Those who would like a theocracy in this country are not so different from those currently ruling Afghanistan. Ask their young women over the age of ten how their education and futures are going....
  22. I suggest you toss him a beer can ala the Astros World Series parade version only this time make sure he's looking the other way. After all, it's a celebration. Whose celebrating what is a matter of opinion.
  23. I am so sorry to hear that. 75 to Indian Nations turnpike with a Pikepass through some beautiful rural country and then eventually drop onto 45 and you're there. Made very close to that drive many a time but then again, I like to drive or if I'm the passenger, just window gaze. Nothing against flying, but yeah, it's not an ice storm or anything. Now that (in Oklahoma where ice is so much fun) has led to some interesting holiday travel.
