  1. Valid points especially regarding investment dollars. Mine was more of a personal observation, and comments made among other friends (regarding characteristics we find attractive about our spouses/men in general). Granted, we're not twenty somethings either and to your point--we're not likely to say anything aloud to anyone other than our guys. It's not a status thing nor a 'how much did one spend or have to spend'--it's hard to explain in a way. It's more along the lines of, or perhaps similar to the way one might notice how a nice pair of heels accentuates the calves and so on. As a rule, I don't comment (in person) on other people's clothing, etc. It's a minefield and diplomacy, manners, and tact are underappreciated these days. But this is Surly so I thought I'd say that watches are a useful and attractive accessory. *My spouse has several nice watches but he wears a beat up Timex for work (sentimental reasons). My oldest's bf is into the mechanical watches but I'm not sure what all he has other than I think he has a Hamilton of which he's fond. My older brother inherited our dad's watches and he had a solid collection.
  2. I had no idea my spouse posted on this message board....really though that's what he does. To all you that wear watches every day, especially the nicer ones: It's sexy a good watch is and fwiw, when a guy is wearing a quality watch and has his sleeves slightly rolled up his forearms so you can see it, well that's just mighty fine. Eye-catching and practical is not a bad compliment when you consider it, yeah?
  3. "...an independent voter from Odessa, Texas..."
  4. Behind The Scenes At Epstein's Island.
  5. I don't disagree with that point. Edit: the point regarding the RW and racism etc)
  6. She was supposed to be the replacement for Misty Mountains but when Sid Shattuck got killed she needed a new source of income.
  7. Thanks @pyrohornIII I was ribbing you a little. Don't have any answers, really. @bolverk --Is calling Elon Musk a racist or misogynist really political? Those two terms seem rather equal opportunity to me unless one specifically brings up a belief that X Y Z party has that in its platform? I mean it's something that gets tossed around in CR but if a celebrity/public figure (Elon holds no office in government) says (hypothetically) women are inferior to men and should not be allowed to hold jobs or drive, attend school, etc I don't consider that political necessarily but I will call him a sexist. Maybe even a sexist pig but pigs are actually useful.
  8. @bolverk Try this link: https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/stephen-hawking-epstein-island-orgy-allegations You have to scroll down a ways but it's there. Here's the text explanation, the pic/meme is on the website
  9. I dug a little deeper but was somewhat blocked due to paywalls--one blurb around that poll indicated that it was a Deseret News-HarrisX poll.
  10. I mentioned in the Cloak Room (because that is really where most, if not all, of the posts in this thread should be) that on Epstein's legal team when the sweetheart deal with former Secretary of Labor, Alex Acosta, (at the time of the agreement, Acosta was if you all remember the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida), in addition to Dershowitz was the late Ken Starr. That agreement granted immunity to Epstein along with four named co-conspirators and any un-named potential co-conspirators. This agreement was, as you know, later ruled illegal due to the Crime Victims' Rights Act. So, Ken Starr and Dershowitz did what they seem to do best: act in the best interest of their client. Former Bush (junior) envoy Jay Lefkowitz was the head of the team IIRC and the one who followed up the handshake agreement with an email (oops). To his death, Starr defended his actions in the 2008 case. Anyone surprised by that? It's the same old rich guys sitting on the edge of the pool laughing while the rest of humanity circles the drain.
  11. This thread belongs in DT. (j/k--it really doesn't but it does not actually belong in the CR per se either) Most of the threads in DT don't belong in DT once a day or two has passed--the topic changes into something that is ideological and does not remain a relevant evolving discussion/situation related to a current event. Not sure why more topics don't get moved that way. This board was created by people with academic know-how.
  12. Oh come on, guys. You/We can stand here and draw lines in the sand all day and see who can piss the greatest distance if you want but nothing happens, ever unless the TEAM somehow manages to beat the other TEAM. I'm not talking about this thread or even this board in that regard. Hillary outed George (senior) for his affair with his secretary that began when he was working in China, then here we go whoopsies here's the affair that Bill had with Gennifer Flowers, Lewensky; Trump and his harem, and on and on. None of this is okay--not because of adults, but because of the power difference. Male or female doesn't matter. The pedophilia ramps it up to another level but it is still a matter of don't ask don't tell with the powerful protecting their own while trying to gain advantage, letting the victims dangle and get exoriated all while we choose apparent sides and bicker. How stupid are we? Wait don't answer that.
  13. I haven't been in tune with media reliability/sources lately, but let's be honest here: Newsweek can point out the math but the kicker is: can the committee actually perform the mathematical operation? Pretty certain, given the difficulties with addition regarding a certain election that fractions are going to be problematic.
  14. From the Mueller, She Wrote tweet on pg 66 (of this thread), tweeter displays a document discussing "Dershowitz (along with other members of Epstein's defense team)" and the secret immunity provided when reaching the deal in Florida. Ken Starr, deader than a doornail now, was one of those 'others' on the defense team and, as low of an opinion I have of him, when he died a lot of secrets died with him. They could talk to Starr's former deputy, Brett Kavanaugh (not directly involved AFAIK with Epstein's defense as I think he was a sitting judge at the time), but yeah, ha, like he would say anything when asked, enrobed egoist asshole that he is--he's smart enough to know better. He's got his gig and he ain't losing it now. Ironically, the right leaning media outlets roasted what they perceived to be the cossetted treatment of Epstein as compared to what they believed to be the persecution of Kavanaugh during his confirmation. Well, yes right leaning media outlets you got the cossetted treatment of Epstein correct but you're missing the big picture per usual. Edit to add: The power players (mostly men, some females, and grasping enablers) swing their boy (or girl) bits around seeking gratification without concern for political parties until it is erm exposed and the information weaponized. But it's a mirror to our society that we do not honor the meek nor protect the victims or disable the structures that permit the atrocities perpetrated against the powerless. Sucks to our assmar I guess.
  15. Corpse Reviver #2, Necromancer, and a Skeleton Key and I'm feeling fiesty. It's a new year and a new theme so why not?!
  16. Good Lord, I'm three sheets to the wind due to making cocktails for spouse's rough work day and I'm not so delusional to see what the fuck all that graphic has to do with anything relevant. Do these people actually watch the games?
  17. Some of the recent headlines discussed how there has been outflow of residents from 'blue' to 'red' states, but less discussed were the headlines that mentioned that life expectancy was longer in 'blue' states vs 'red' states. Come to conservative states to reach heaven sooner is the motto you know. Or hell while alive. You'd think women would be leaving as soon as they could scrape together enough to do so but that kind of mobility for many women is difficult and always has been.
  18. It's the dismal tide pod of dudes that say and signify nothing. They should take take Anton's challenge and flip a coin. Then let Carla Jean decide.
  19. I don't know what his plans are in the coming year and don't care but if I had that kind of folding money I'd be sitting in Ellen's Pub in Ballyconnell with a fat smile on my face and a pint in my belly with no plans to return stateside for quite some time.
  20. The offseason should be interesting. Maybe they'll make a promo video with all the highlights you listed! This was several years and one month ago:
  21. Sorry you're feeling poorly. It's amazing how much fp is caused by salad and other greens. I love to make salad but it's getting to where those oysters your family grilled over the weekend were probably safer.
  22. Yeah, your reasoning for not doing it makes sense. Houston and its metro, Austin etc I see the cars that can't follow the curve of the road and a good percentage of the time they're on their phone. Worst one I saw this past year was 290 eastbound near Cypress and the guy was driving his truck with no hands on the steering wheel--he was holding his phone and typing something (lol, probably on a message board having to get the last word). Hit the pedal and got as far away as I could.
  23. No lecture from me. Closest I've ever been to a bingo card is the fake ones on here. I am, however, a little more in favor of keeping the casinos in benefit of the indigenous owners simply because it seems like they've been able to reverse some population declines on tribal lands and increase employment. It's had its negative impacts as well though. Admittedly I don't know enough about it beyond that.
  24. With many fathers this is a great age (adolescence) to step up and be a dad to daughters in one of the more emotionally rewarding (and challenging!) ways. I was very thankful for having someone who could absorb some of the pent up teen angst and energy and redirect it in positive ways, who could role model male behavior that was constructive and fair-minded, who encouraged w/o belittling feminine thought and behavior, who was a sounding board for the (pardon) dumb things boys sometimes do or say, and so on. It can forge a stronger relationship that progresses from teen to adulthood and for those of you that have daughters, count your blessings even when you want to yell at the clouds because they'll always have your heart and you theirs.
  25. FIFM. Houston is not the only city I've almost been thankful I was second in line at the traffic light. I don't drive daily in Houston but I'm there frequently along with the Austin and Dallas metro areas as well. I eventually got used to lane splitting (with motorcycles) driving in LA traffic but sure has given me a startle when it's happened here in Texas. The last time it happened I was certain I was going to see a brain stain on the pavement because that rider was not only helmet-less, he did it in the stupidest way possible. ( I know it isn't supposed to happen here but it do, it sure sure do)
