  1. This person gets it. The way I see it, these three were using that good old southern maxim of "do unto others as you had done unto you," which is not to be confused with The Golden Rule.
  2. This guy really didn't understand how to play Seven Degrees of Separation from Kevin Bacon did he?
  3. I saw some HBO released stills floating around social media from the upcoming episode. Looking forward to the finale. The show has had four different directors for the nine episodes thus far and Greg Yaitanes directed the finale (The Black Queen). His other episodes were The Rogue Prince (E1.2) and Second of His Name (E1.3)-- the latter included the battle scene complete with crabs at the Stepstones.
  4. I couldn't decide whether to use the Rage or the FAAFO rep emoji and went with rage. This type of behavior increasing is a bad harbinger. They have dehumanized neighbors to us versus them in a letter loaded with veiled threats. Just lovely people they are.
  5. I am not a fan of Governor Stitt at all and his conduct does not surprise me. But that tactic he uses fits right in with the other tactics we have seen on the rise in tandem with authoritarianism and fascism. Do you believe.... Watch the video, only half a minute:
  6. Ahem. Gee I wonder which group Beale is talking about here. Seems like this film-maker covers all the bases: racist, sexist, homophobic, and gullible.
  7. That crack he makes at the end about Ms. Cross being a Communications major doesn't really resonate if one knows that Tucker has a degree in History. Apparently he must have only read stuff like The Turner Diaries, Mein Kampf, Les Camp des Saints, and The Protocols of The Elders of Zion.

    LBGTQ

That came across my news feed and I was like, these folks need a different hobby because they are like walking pimples.
  9. Rep to you for this cogent explanation. I don't think I will ever quite understand folks who simplify a Presidency down to economy bad = bad President. Economy good/bad = political opportunity for Presidents/Opponents I get. Has anyone else lately felt like this Joe Biden thread was heading to Lagos and we needed to step off for decontamination? Anyone?
  10. It was decades ago that these types figured out that they could grab two birds with one stone in the education arena--control the content (or the players i.e. students by manipulating parents) and grab the billions in tax dollars through charters and vouchers and educational buildings/materials. Most folks were asleep and not paying attention. These guys got lazy.
  11. I'm afraid some time back the idiots were handed the conch and didn't understand its purpose so they smashed it.

    LBGTQ

Gah; I am so sick of people right now. Well, some people anyway. Our community has a school board election fast approaching and the candidates have been talking and canvassing and there is, of course (fuck this timeline), one who is campaigning on not being 'woke' and such. This candidate is popular and has children in the schools and whatnot and listening to other parents and community members comments just breaks my heart even as the shards sharpen with loathing toward their cruelty. One parent prattles on about keeping gender out of the schools. I'm thinking "Wtf you moronic dripping wet wipe." Gender is everywhere. Our culture, even when LBGTQ youth were 'hidden' so to speak, does nothing but set codes and social constructs around gender. Boys are good at math and girls are not. Girls are either madonnas or whores. Boys don't cry. Most pejoratives by the dominant culture are women's body parts. Don't tell me when I was volunteering that the eight year old boy who was picking on another by calling him 'faggot' didn't likely learn that from his dad or brothers. He was eight years old and tormenting another eight year old. That victim sure did receive some educational instruction on gender and sexuality didn't he? And these parents cannot fathom that being kind and considerate to one another, that allowing a child to figure out who they are and who they wish to be in this world because it IS THEIR FUCKING LIFE is actually THE most alpha (since they are fond of that word) act that humans can do. It is giving each human the agency to choose their path. We preach to youth: know thyself; and then we turn around and hypocritically tell them that cannot be right because we have judged them unworthy. And they FEEL that, boy do they feel that. Anyone who says otherwise is being deliberately obtuse. Ugh. Even sadder anecdote but I can't recall if I mentioned it here before. When one of my children was pre-school age I was chatting with another mom. It was right about this time of the year and we were discussing Halloween costumes. She had multiple children, a couple of boys and girls, and she mentioned that one of her sons--the same age as mine--wanted to be Robin Hood. Mrs. Whiggins: "Oh, Robin Hood, that's a good one!" Her: "Well, my husband will never allow it." Me: (thinking) Maybe he's objecting to the stealing, even if the motivation is less objectionable? (aloud) "Really? Why not?" Her: "He doesn't want his son wearing pantyhose." Me: "Ummmm, they're stockings, all men wore them back then." Her: "Stockings or not, he isn't raising any sissy boys." Me: (thinking) Okaaaaay. Guess I better not mention that one of my other children heathens is going dressed as Tinky Winky because her favorite color is purple.
  13. Ok, this one made me laugh: But this one made me fall over:
  14. I had been giving it a desultory watch and listen over the last week on our BBC channel and it had a bit of everything didn't it? It's pretty crazy, but Brit humor is just top shelf really. Plus this little summation got a chuckle.
  15. J.K. Rowling having the Potter series 'age up' and grow more complex with each novel was quite a successful move. Regardless of how one views that series, it developed really well from her initial outline/plot (I think that is how she said she had it worked out) and more importantly--she finished! Martin's series is not quite the same animal, but he appears to have lost focus/desire/pulled in too many directions and I have put off reading the books because there are two yet to arrive and I suspect they never will. I may take the advice of a page back and just read the first three. Oh, and thanks @Augustus for the info on the firefly.
  16. Pretty much why oligarchies are only fun for the oligarchs. Everyone else is screwed over.
  17. 1) No, I looked around and found an image and while the body might slightly resemble a spider, it has six legs. I guess one might argue it isn't finished, but, it has little horizontal stripes on its body more like Larys' bug pin, save for any wings. I cannot quite recall what Larys' walking stick bug in that episode looked like exactly. That would still somewhat tie in to Larys and actually somewhat to Aemond (he was there with his brother when Helaena was messing around with her living spider or whatever it was at the funeral. Aemond walks in to the room when she is embroidering that image. 2. Helaena in her own way is like Larys--observing and thinking and people pay her no mind. The way Aemond and Daemon parallel each other (similar but different) I have considered that perhaps Helaena and Larys are designed to parallel each other as well. I think the character Aemond knows not to discount her in the same fashion that Aegon does.
  18. But the optics have now been created regardless--(D) voters 'cheat' therefore any election wherein an (R) candidate does not win is sketchy and must be overturned. Long term strategy: incarcerate (D) voters under charges of fraud and then when it is determined (after much paper shuffling) that they were eligible, the election will have passed. Too bad!
  19. On so many levels and so much more rep needed for this phrase ^^^^
  20. Hey, do you think I should show up at one of the upcoming rallies with a pallet of slightly modified Easy-Bake ovens and make some money?
  21. Naw; I'm House Daemon. Sometimes I just sit there smirking because I am entertained. Rest of the Houses can fight it out; I'm good either way.
  22. After winning the Nobel Prize for literature in 1930, Sinclair Lewis wrote It Can't Happen Here. In two days it will be the anniversary of its publication date: October 21, 1935. The novel received a revival of sorts after the 2016 election and sold out online and has been on the best seller lists recently. But many have their heads filled with propaganda spouted by right wing media personalities or in the sand or just too overwhelmed with daily miseries to think beyond getting by and getting through.
  23. That is what I was thinking as well; am I missing something? Plus our urban public transportation is ass when compared to some cities so more folks drive the sprawl halls back and forth to the burbs.
