  1. ^^^If you didn't jinx them lol; relays are tricky like that. Just ask Team USA....
  2. According to the government website, you need a GED. As far as I can tell, I don't think Rittenhouse ever obtained one. He dropped out of his local HS and then later dropped out of the online high school he was 'attending.' That would mean he didn't make the eligibility requirements in addition to the ASVAB most likely. I'm not certain that KR will ever have the epiphany of realizing any of these thoughts about his choices he's made, regret, etc because it really does take a little more than age to 'learn' the introspection that comes with looking at one's past.
  3. You? You are asking this question about why people act against what would seem to be their own self interest or that of their loved ones? You that have the inside scoop on the GOP loyalists of any gender throughout the state that consistently do likewise even in matters not related to women's health? I have the vapors I'm so shocked. Seriously, it's a good enough question and IMO there are a multitude of reasons, some of which have been discussed previously. Suffice it to say, if you look around many of those that are the most fervent may have a combination of fear driven anxiety and others a barely suppressed rage. The lack of empathy not being unique to one gender or another may be true, as is the way women tend to resolve differences, but to me there is also an element that @Brisketexan touched upon slightly--the vulnerability of a women's place in a patriarchal and just as important, a capitalist society wherein society and legislatures (and males!) are in the midst of 52-60 years of adjusting to the Civil Rights Act and Title IX being passed. I say adjusting because it hasn't exactly been smooth sailing has it? I could write a pretty long set of paragraphs that 'splain those thoughts about place and vulnerability and social change in more detail, but perhaps another time, as it's been a long enough day as it is.
  4. One tool to combat this is education, that is to be more specific: not the educational reinforcement of "girls can't do X (shall I list all the topics? Nah, don't think I will) but the education that promotes awareness of not only what girls can do but also of the social awareness of functional vs dysfunctional relationships, culture, and society. IOW, something one can (possibly) get in high school and/or higher education. So the banning of women & gender studies (among others) is about more than LGBQT persons and the 'morals police,' it also serves (as stated in the post above), to keep women in their place. You could substitute a number of other under-represented groups, but women (and transwomen) encompass all demographics of race, SES, sexuality, and age.
  5. Mean Girl Gate-Keeping. Some of them never outgrow it. Also, as a dad, this is something you can model for your daughter--how to stand up for herself because those mean girls start developing their skills in elementary school and it can leave a lot of scars.
  6. I hate to wish Midland ill, but if the wind was blowing eastward perhaps the resulting pollution lingered over Tim Dunn's 6000 sq ft place.

    LBGTQ

I am not a Mildred nor do I happen to know any personally but I see nothing wrong with it. It means gentle strength and that seems rather charming if you ask me (not that anyone did but this is Surly). I did know a Walter in school, the only one I've ever known until a SIL gave one of her sons the name as his 'middle' name. I find names kinda cool in general. They can be common or unique but each of us takes our name (or chooses it later) and makes it a part of us. We can be teased for it or admired or shortened or nicknamed (from our original name) but no matter what, it is us in all our messy complicated history of our time on this pale blue dot.
  8. Taking medical advice from a *checks notes* community college drop out is ill advised. Charlie Kirk can come visit my children who wouldn't exist were it not for me taking hormonal BC for a medical condition. Go ahead Charlie, they'd love to educate you because heaven knows that big head is full of crap. You want to see moody Mr. Kirk? Try actually speaking that schtick with women who lack access to the medical care that I received and you'll be lucky if you escape with just a fry pan up the side of your big old head.
  9. I'm looking at that fellow and without ever watching the video, my first thought is "Mister, I don't think ANYONE wants their lifestyle anywhere near you regardless.".
  10. Eight hours of benzene that was (if I read the paper correctly) 15 times the limit, and eight hours of carbon monoxide at 2500 lb/hour (limit=351.79/hr) among other things.
  11. Oh my sweet summer child.... canofworms.gif
  12. I'm def suspicious. My meatloaf looks like tenderloin compared to that abomination.
  13. It has one. It's where the cyber-alpha-males keep their boxes of condoms because they know they're going to get laid, driving a cyber truck and all standing by the side of the road waiting for the tow.
  14. Wait until next year when Easter falls on April 20th. Now THAT should really get people talking 'bout the devil.... Easter moves, March 31st does not. So uh, yeah.
  15. I only post the UT/Collegiate results in the UT (Other Sports) track and field thread so as not to derail it, but the HA time from Victor Lopez would've won the collegiate division (which UT won btw).

  18. Thanks! I checked it out and am in the first part and I agree that it's different but I'm enjoying it as well. I will look for The Oath as this topic has been a good one.
  19. Leftovers so had the time to make a couple of cocktails: Charlie Chaplin for starters & finished with a Sloe Gin Pink Lady. Should've taken pics because they're purdy but here's a grab from tha Web: I do like gin don't I?
  20. ^^^...and your user name is fitting for Talarico's message when it comes to understanding what he's talking about.
  21. The irony of this elected rep not taking the L is so on brand. Gonzaga, the university founded by a Jesuit priest who wanted to "minister" to indigenous peoples in the area (vicinity of what is now Spokane, WA). How the past and the present are so tragically humorous makes me long for a modern day playwright with the gift to display this folly and hubris because otherwise we would weep. From one white "savior" of the past all the way to the present's Mad Matt, we are the stupidest humans when it comes to admitting that what we don't know about each other is the first step towards a peaceful existence. Edit: @Biff Tannenput it much more succinctly; well done.
  22. I think you're correct that it's likely bs; the blue rose has multiple symbolic meanings but one is thoughtful and contemplative which he blogged as his mood the day he posted it. He seems so preoccupied with the screen productions that I don't expect him to finish the series before he passes.
  23. They got there...eventually... The (bigger) one we all enjoyed the most was painting their rooms one at a time. They were involved start to finish with the planning, prep, all of it and yes, the satisfaction was long-lasting and the conversations during the process were a hoot.
