Despite the disappointing dawn to the Sark era, there’s still opportunity for the staff to foster momentum down the stretch and sign a surprisingly good class.
UT will always hold an advantage as the flagship school in an extremely talented state. That advantage isn’t the same as LSU, Georgia, or USC, but it’s still one of the best recruiting advantages in the nation. As I've written, there are permanent benefits to recruiting at Texas.
With UT comes the proximity advantage, which beyond the obvious aids in relationship building, as well as an academic advantage UT holds over most institutions that take football seriously. Books and ball, as Texas commit and Alabama native Justice Finkley, coined, works in UT’s favor.
Beyond the quasi-permanent state of the program, there’s a variable state that is unique to every cycle. This state is comprised of the tension between on-field play, recruit perception, quality of recruiters, and the same at rival schools.
While poor play on the field is a headwind, and feels quasi-permanent after the last decade, the program has a surprising amount of positives variables working in its favor as the cycle nears the early signing period on December 15th.
Playing time: This is one of the main factors recruits consider. Playing time is to athletes as academics are to parents. If Sark gets his turnaround correct, he'll never have another opportunity like right now to sell playing time. Game 1 playing time is available at every position except running back. In particular, playing time is a siren song for elite prospects who have the confidence and raw ability to compete on arrival.
Playing time is the driving factor behind UT's chances with myriad difference makers. Even if playing time isn't immediate, being on the two deep is still attractive.
Offense: Despite being limited at every offensive position save running back, Steve Sarkisian's offensive design has proved mostly effective. There are things he could have done better, but for the most part his proof of concept has carried over from Alabama to the point the perception is "he just needs his guys." Indeed, he's probably a consistent quarterback away from having a much different inaugural season.
In particular, this offense is attractive to quarterbacks and wide receivers, but it all starts with the run-game up front. There isn't a position on offense Sark didn't have a great schematic pitch for while at Alabama. The scheme pitch is still there, though the on-field example leads us away from "you're going to get drafted" to "you're going to play early."
Portal: The ability to export chaff and import more scarce commodities helps in the immediate because it allows Sarkisian to take an aggressive rebuilding posture at a time a roster remake is clearly needed. Being able to sell the roster overhaul that accompanies 33 new players works in favor of perception. It helps recapture the new car smell the staff was close to capitalizing on upon arrival but couldn't.
NIL: The staff has been able to impart on high profile recruits the many ways current UT athletes are monetizing their Name, Image, and Likeness. It isn't really our business what the marketable players are making, but we've heard some numbers that we're confident would catch the attention of remaining targets.
Like the portal, NIL should benefit Texas as much, or more than any other program. As we wrote last summer, grand NIL doings are in a race against time to help with the 2022 class. We're not sure NIL will be a major needle mover in the class, but it will be a net benefit. Over time, UT is going to win its share of battles when NIL becomes the tie-breaker between two otherwise evenly matched recruiting pitches.
Fans might be holding their collective breath waiting for "big" NIL news, but IT believes NIL is right on track to help make a difference in recruiting.
Sark's long leash: While the Kansas loss may have brought out some of the Daywalkers in search of their annual vial of coach's blood, the Texas admin has covered Sark in garlic. We can debate whether or not they should be taking a public stance in support of the head coach they recently hired (I think it's unnecessary), the truth of the matter is Sarkisian will be given more latitude to get things right than his two predecessors. Those saying "he better get defense right next year or he's gone" are misguided. Assuming Sark's offense holds up its end of the bargain, he'll be given ample time to right the defense and overall program.
When combining these factors, one can discern the fundamentals are in place to finish the recruiting cycle in stronger fashion than one would expect if they simply looked at the record.
Texas will not win out for all of its remaining priority targets, but its share thanks to the reasons listed above.LMAO, Nahlin going straight for Casey Thompson. No surprise.

Was just curious. I assumed many of them transformed into an inside type of role when covid hit. I guess they are all on the road again now.
There's never a full on right answer but imo, you'll always need field sales. Much easier to build trust in person.

It's pretty white: https://datausa.io/profile/geo/manhasset-ny
Then again I live here: https://datausa.io/profile/geo/dix-hills-ny
and the Whitest thing I can say is my neighbor across the street are black and that we are adjacent to here: https://datausa.io/profile/geo/wheatley-heights-ny and here: https://datausa.io/profile/geo/wyandanch-ny. My other two neighbors are Chinese and Greek and there are other ethnicities on our street. Our little 22 some house nabe is pretty diverse all things being equal. Manhasset can be very white, very Persian, especially as you get closer to Great Neck. It's Jewish but not as Jappy as say Roslyn. I like it there and the proximity to the city is great. I get more bang for the buck in Dix Hills. I get great public/municipal services, parks, and schools for the taxes I pay. The schools are great.
I'm just a kid from Austins 78731, good public school trash from McCallum HS.
I'm 50 min in a car or the train to NYC, and the train stop while in Wyandanch is only six minutes away. I'm an hour and change to the Hamptons
60% white is still pretty diverse. More diverse than I thought honestly.

Where does the myth that Xavier Worthy is a transfer player come from? I’ve heard multiple people say it but it’s not remotely true.
We stole him from the Chicago Bears

The interesting this is there really are not all that many AAs in Southlake (not that any number makes some of the bullshit going on acceptable) but yes I believe a lot racial tension there is more focused on how the massive influx of Asians and "Sub-Continent" Asians is playing out. From the academic perspective those kids come in and routinely kick whitey's ass. From the athletic perspective that much of the identify of Southlake and Carroll ISD is built around it's not that there can't be talent there it's just not what those families place value on and so the whole "you're a Dragon football player starting in the 4th grade and we are going to spend the next 5-6 years grooming you to kick ass once you get to SLC" just isn't happening. So the area is is danger of losing the one thing it is beholden to while at the same time individual kids are getting their asses kicked in the classroom (making acceptance to places like ahem...UT that much harder)
I got a good friend who is one of the trainers at Keller HS and very well connected in that whole business (been president of Southwest Athletic Trainers Organization which is the major body for those folks HS/College wise etc). He told me about 2 years back that the Carroll ISD athletic director was having a discussion with the Keller ISD AD that they had maybe 5-7 years left and that demographics in the younger age groups and family buy in wasn't going to continue to support the success they have previously enjoyed. I have another buddy who lives in Grapevine but is zoned into Carroll ISD (he jokes he is definitely from the wrong side of the tracks). He has a 6th grade and 4th grade daughter. He told me this school year his 6th grade daughter was one of only 6 white kids in her class. He doesn't personally give a shit but has said he hears a lot of snide side remarks from other parents and there have been several let's call them "cultural misunderstandings" that have played out in their elementary/intermediate schools over the last few years.
This is interesting. I've certainly heard of whites leaving burbs like Coppell for the reasons I mentioned up top:
No longer feels like America
WE'll win the band contest but not the football game
Too academically competitive.
Sounds like the Asian kids are harassing the white kids or am I misreading the "cultural misunderstandings?" I live in a city of 300k that is over 60% Asian. Everyone seems to get a long and the Asians here seem.....well,.......white.
Regarding sports, I wonder if Asians hold their kids back 1 year to compete?😁

The speed queens on this board and others are the worst offenders. They don't want good to real good receivers that can thrive in the underneath to mid range passing game. The receiver room needs to be a collection of different kinds of guys, preferably not Bobby Kennedy or Tom Herman type receivers. Yes Winfield, Hudson, and etc don't run 10.5 100m but they're not slow and they're very good route runners and catch the ball well away from their body. These types IMO will open up for for Worthy because they'll have to be counted on underneath with big play ability across the various parts of the field.
I think the speed queens are echoing the mantra that Tommy H was a size queen. I know Eagles was a big guy, but plenty fast. Same with Moore, Whittington, etc. Brenan Thompson is fucking fast.

Don't worry guys I'm sure fat Ketch will keep everything quiet once he gets wind of who is considering portalling.
So if you read the Chipper's article, looks like quite a few interesting names.

School integration did kick off a pretty severe degree of white flight. A couple generations later, and presto-changeo, you've got farmland converted into mini metros full of people who want to teach their kids that the Holocaust didn't happen and racism isn't real.
I'm by no means saying that those people are representative of the overall population, but there are certainly enough of them that feel empowered enough to draw the feds attention.
But the white flight wasn't to get away from African Americans, it was to get away from Asians right? 1 reason is they tend to be super competitive in school and the other I've heard is "it don't feel like Merica anymore." I was watching a Coppell basketball game on the tele and a few of the players were Asian. Pretty neat imo.

I don't live in DFW, have never lived in DFW, and will (likely) never live in DFW. Is this overblown or sound about right for that community? In other words, is this driven by a handful of racist idiots or should that area be avoided like the plague?
Good question. I have a friend that lives there and I asked him if the area was particularly racist and he said “not like kkk racist. Got time to have lunch at p terrys tomorrow?”

I wonder if the BMDs are turning up the heat already. Or they think Sark is fragile and needs to reassure him before the fanbase and media eats him alive??
I think coming to practice puts more pressure on Sark. Weird all around.Yea I don’t like the move from any angle

Definitely not wrong, but people are willing to do so. There's a reason we have roof Koreans as nomenclature. Kinda reminds me of this as well.
That hurts everyone, and that's just theft. I don't mean to make it as you condone it, I just understand why when no one else is protecting your town, you would feel like you have to.
You know how to avoid being shot? Don't loot or steal. If I'm in the looting mood and I come up to 10 Koreans with AKs, I'm moving on to the next liquor store and honestly I'm not mad at the Koreans for defending their shit.

I’m starting Moore at WR3 for the second week in a row, ain’t mad at it. Flacco threw him a garbage-time TD last week.
41 minutes ago, MoJames said:Moore will get looks as the Jets should be behind. The biggest issue with Moore is what happens with him when Zach Wilson returns as he tended to look for Crowder and Davis.
Issue is, I also have Carter so what are the chances I can win with two Jets in the lineup? I think this is a let down spot for Miami though their d is projected to go off. I also have Booker and D'ernest but it looks like Chubb and Barkley are back. No idea why D'ernest can't put up Hunt like numbers with Chubb around, though they're playing the Lions. Could be a stat padding moment.

Will OU have as much allure to TX HS athletes in the SEC as they did in the Big12? In the Big12 it was come play for the premier school in the league, make the CFB playoffs, and play a ton of games in TX. I'm speculating but, in the SEC they won't be the top school most years as I expect much more parity and TX kids could play as many in-state games going to Ole Miss as OU.
I've always thought that Bob and Riley passed over Nfl offers because it was so easy for them to win the big 12. SEC? Not so much.
