My 2026 Health Insurance Premium Increase
I've lived in both England and Germany, both of which have universal healthcare, and they both have precision medicine (both countries call it personalized medicine). I would guess that we're both right--healthcare systems and pharmaceutical companies raise costs and private insurers raise rates in a continuous cycle. But we shouldn't discount the ability of government health systems to control drug and healthcare prices when they are the main payor in the market by a wide margin.

My 2026 Health Insurance Premium Increase
I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen the phrase “rent-seeking” on a bumper sticker.

My 2026 Health Insurance Premium Increase
That, plus colossal rent-seeking by an industry that serves no real purpose.

The BYU player just intentionally or unintentionally kicked the ball out of the GT carrier’s hands. Rules analyst says it would be legal whether it was intentional or not. Does that sound right? Why aren’t defenders just winding up and kicking ball carriers?- Tell Me About Michigan

I can see that for sure. I should give CP a reread. I remember reading the first chapter and thinking “I have no idea what’s going on,” although that’s no knock against the author—plenty of sci fi starts in medias res. CP provides some really good opportunity for social effects and action sequences, so I’ll definitely watch.- NFL Week 16
I would have liked to see the Lions win, but it’s hard to argue with the OPI call on the final play.- Scifi/Fantasy Book Recs
I disagree. Sure, if they were doing the Mars Trilogy, they couldn’t start with Green Mars of Blue Mars (I’d kill to see that series made). But in the Culture books, you’re not following the same characters through multiple books, and The Culture itself doesn’t change in a way that you have the follow the publication order. Maybe you wouldn’t start with a later book like Excession that has more complex interaction among the minds, but any of the first few could work as the first storyline for a TV series.- Scifi/Fantasy Book Recs
