  1. Not sure he's up to the task, but he could play TE.
  2. I've had bad experiences w/ tOSU fans in Austin and West Lafayette. I cannot imagine how bad it would be actually in Columbus. Been to Columbus for kid college trips. I liked the place, people were great, etc., which was a total surprise based on how my fellow fans and I have been treated by theirs. That said, if we fans stop traveling to away games at tOSU, aren't we letting the terrorists win?
  3. Auburn is the Nebraska of Alabama.
  4. We could give them a few of these.
  5. I watched too much Purdue football this year for any sane person to admit to. It seemed like nobody on that team was good at blocking. Ha. That said, Klare seemed to be the best offensive player on that team. He, the safety, and the punter are definitely worth talking to.
  6. Perfect day for him to be here. Sunny with a high of 63. West Lafayette today high of 22 and grey.
  7. Both 3%-5% (low to mid single-digit net profit) and $20B can be true - or close. United Health Care financials: 2023: $371B in revenue; $23B net income after taxes. 23/371 = 6.2% net profit. 2022: $324B revenue; $20.6B net - 6.4% 2021: $287B rev; $17.7 net - 6.2% What amazes me more is they are carrying $75B in long term debt. No idea why, nor do I care to spend too much time looking, but it is likely related to using debt - rather than stock - to fund acquisitions.
  8. Punter from Purdue was at Miss St last year. I’d still take him here. The interview above is awesome. His very first stop in the US was Starkville. They did not believe he was from Australia. Actually indicated that West Lafayette was more cosmopolitan than Starkville because a real city (Chicago) was 2 hours away. Someone like him could be an exception, though. 23 years old. Already has a bachelors degree. Not playing the NIL game. His LinkedIN says he’s looking for work in education in 2025, etc. Go get him
  9. You absolutely want to talk to a small handful of folks on the Purdue roster. They were a low quality team overall, but they were not 100% devoid of talent. P Crimmins and S Thieneman are worth talking to. Here are the punter's per-game stats from this past season. His worst game was against Oregon w/ punts of 41, 39, 36, and 42. The 39 was downed on the Oregon 1. For some reason, ESPN has him listed as a Junior, but 2023 was his first year at Mississippi State. Also, he's working on his Masters degree in Education, Curriculum and Studies. He received a Bachelors in Education Studies from Victoria University, Australia, before heading to the US.
  10. Thieneman would be interesting, IMO. Freshman all-american in 2023. So far, he's linked to Oregon, tOSU, Louisville (was recruited by Brohm before Brohm left for Louisville), Indiana, etc. Purdue played a lot of single-high safety this year and last. Thieneman played that role. Given how slow and ineffective their DL was at times, it is no surprise that he registered 100+ tackles. That said, he was the best player on their defense. Here's a pic of him against UND - around 25 yards off the LOS.
  11. For time immemorial, QB2 has been the most popular player on the team for many fans.
  12. Sure as heck hope he did it during special order session, to minimize the cost to the taxpayer. The audience size seems to indicate it. Regardless, what a huge waste of time, but I guess he thought it was worth it to get it into the congressional record. SMH.
  13. Weighin' in at nineteen stone...
  14. Came here to post something similar. Duke is #53 in Sagarin, 0-1 against the top 10 and 0-2 against the top-30. AND - They beat NW by 6, UConn by 5, UNC by 1, FSU by 7, VT by 3, and Wake by 6 on a last second TD. Duke is a 6-6 team that overperformed expectations.
  15. I sure hope one of the top bullets is "get a hall-of-fame QB on a discounted contract so you can use that savings to help pay for an overall better OL and DL."
  16. Crap. I will miss Belichick on the Manning-cast.
  17. Can you imagine a tour w/ VH supporting VH1 opening for Journey supporting Infinity? Wow. According to Schon, Monstrose played between VH and Journey. Steve Smith (who would join Journey on Evolution - just after this tour) played with Ronnie Montrose, etc. - it was instrumental. Another derail: CSB I've met Steve Smith several times, as he plays many shows in clubs (Iridium, Birdland, et) in Manhattan. After he was booted from Journey around "Raised on Radio" (he played on one song), he joined Jazz Fusion band Steps Ahead, featuring tenor sax player Michael Brecker and vibraphone player Mike Manieri. Anyhow, he and his band mates are very accessible after shows. Great to talk to. One night, I am looking around the bar and see Mike Manieri. I walk up to him and ask if he is who he is. He looks at me astonished that someone would recognize him. I said, "yeah, I am a huge fan of Steps ahead. What you and Brecker did was fantastic." Anyhow, he teaches at NYU and was there to see Steve. /CSB
  18. Guys like Satriana, Vai, Malmsteen, etc. are "huge" and iconic, IMO. But not EVH huge, of course. I guess I am splitting hairs here, as most of the "huge" guitar players among the laymen have some sort of band-level connection for them. We all know about Page, Gilmour, Rhodes, Slash, Gibbons, Schon, etc. because of their band affiliation first and not their virtuosity. Of course, there's Hendrix, Beck, Clapton, SRV, etc. who were solo guys, which may be an exception, but Beck and Clapton got their starts in bands. SRV was not really nationally recognized until 10+ years after he moved to Austin. Heck most folks did not even know that he played guitar on most of Bowie's Let's Dance. Not sure what my point is here, but that Van Halen - and its evolution after adding DLR - helped EVH become a huge sensation almost immediately upon the release of their first record. Slight thread derail: Similarly, we probably are not as aware of Neal Schon w/o Steve Perry. Before Perry, Journey was a "self-indulgent" (using Schon's words) jam band. Schon joined Santana at age 17 and formed Journey at age 19 in 1973. Perry joined in 1978 and they printed money through around 1986.
  19. Nic Scourton played at Purdue for 2 years before transferring to aTm. Edited to add: Scourton is from Bryan. He was part of the 2022 class, #22 DL recruit overall. At the time, Aggy had Nolen (1) , Stewart (3), Bronlow-Dindy (4), Overton (6), Lucas (8) in the class. Scourton became more interesting to Aggy once the transfer out began.
  20. Thanks for the clarification on the special assistant, stuff, @closetojumping My bad. Was the "raging asshole" piece from all of the players also part of the character assault? He has a reputation for being aloof. Former subordinate of mine played with him at BSU and noted that he was extremely focused (which can also be misinterpreted for aloof).
  21. When they are *this* TV, you only need 2.
  22. Missed this thread altogether until today... Stream of consciousness. @Rimbo, Sammy claims that his Ferrari was in the shop and Ed saw it. The mechanic said that Ed should call Sammy to get him in the band. Templeton was probably right that time could heal the wounds, but Ed called Sammy and they hit it off. Of course, that's Sammy's version of things. Moved to Austin in 1978 - 4th grade. Guy across the street from me was a little older and had a vast record collection. One would characterize him as a country-boy or "kicker" at the time, but he introduced me to VH1. I'd never heard anything like it before. Parents raised me on pop, Elvis, and BeeGees. Think back to the first time you ever heard "Running With the Devil". Oh my! Missed the VH 1984 tour - I am sure I did something stupid and parents said, "Nah - no need for you to go." Saw VH supporting the 5150 tour at FEC in 1986. Was on 4th row floor - near stage left. It was a fantastic show. Ed's beer cup was near there. I have never seen anyone drink so much Schlitz Malt Liquor before in my life. Or since. Again, the show was fantastic. 5150 was far more "pop" than anything they had done before. My favorites: Summer Nights and 5150. CSB Roth played Stubbs quite a few years back. Before the show, I went to the restroom. While I was standing & peeing, a guy kept coming in and walking out. After the 3rd time, I said, "everything OK?" and he said, "Dave needs to use the restroom." I said, "Let Dave use the restroom, I will leave him alone." I leave and the same guy says, "Hey, can you watch the door until Dave comes out?" Sure. Dave comes out, says "Thanks man" and proceeds to return to his pregaming w/o inviting me. Show was awesome. Favorite part was his guitar and bass player hiding behind amp stacks as Dave started spinning/twirling a large metal staff. /CSB.
  23. Funny how you can see both Ed and Val in his smile. As you might expect Wolf is uber-talented. And hard working. Love how he got the double-kick in it a few times... And the open hi-hat. He's also very sensitive to the band who wrote it. He does not want to mess it up. His instincts are fantastic - the fills ending the chorus are impeccable.
  24. NSIAP - Alex Van Halen with Anderson Cooper. Interesting personal interlude by Billy Bob Thornton - about the loss of his own brother - around 6:45 Around 12:00 mark: Cooper: so your dad struggled with alcohol. Al: He didn't struggle with it. He loved it. My grandfather died from it. My dad's brothers died from it. My dad died from it. I came very close. And Ed battled with it his whole life. Al says it was Dave's idea to have Jan Van Halen play clarinet on Diver Down's Big Bad Bill (is sweet William now). He thanks Dave for the idea.
