  1. I do not claim he is a moron. I decry the notion that he’s a genius. He’s a grifter with above-average intelligence and risk tolerance.
  2. I’ve traveled a decent amount (personal and professional) and have never found the need or want to get wound up about anything along the way. People losing their shit along the way has never made any sense to me. Couple of anecdotes - VERY tangentially related… - My family (all 7 of us) were traveling to Boston for an extended family event. My youngest was around 10 months and was feeling kinda shitty. He whined for most of the flight. As most parents know, your own kid whining/crying on the flight is FAR worse for us than it is for someone else. And likely even worse for the kid. Business trip a-hole 1 row behind was sitting there for the entire trip shaking his head, groaning, etc. Oh well. My 10 month old son had a stomach ache and filled his diaper on descent - Traveling from HOU to SFO in early 90s, a woman had a heart attack 2 rows in front of me. I randomly look up and see a persons head hit the seat in front of her. Her row-mates realize there is an issue and alert the staff. Since it was early in the flight, we do an emergency landing in El Paso - somewhat harrowing. Fortunately, there was an ER doc from Ben Taub and a cardiologist on the flight. They saved her life. - On an international trip to Taipei in late 2010s, I got upgraded to first class on a United 747. We’re sitting on the tarmac for an extended time. Guy next to me is pounding Mai Tais, preparing for the 12 hour slumber. Well, flight gets canceled and he’s hammered. We go to the United lounge to try to rebook and he’s convinced (despite at least a half dozen counter-proofs) that EVA has a seat he can get on. He gets pissed off, yells at the helper - and those in line, for good measure. Storms out of the United First Class Lounge to head over to EVA to get that non-existent seat. We all celebrated his exit. Otherwise, I have lucked out.
  3. Thanks for all of the answers when I asked about this a short while back. Until I find a suitable EV not associated with the Nazi Elmo, I will gladly continue driving my 10+ year old Toyota Sienna and Lexus RX. /no CR @immamac - feel free to delete if I am violating thread rules.
  4. Capel is consistently a career 55% coach, with some outlier years. That's what you get with him. He has been an improvement over Kevin Stallings. Then again, so would just about everyone.... Stallings was 4-32 in 2-years of conference play and received a show-cause while there. Quite the accomplishments.
  5. I believe he'd fare quite well. NIL is above-board compensation of players. He succeeded in an era where paying players was below board, so I think he'd excel in this era. Texas NIL will be there for the right situation, IMO. There are likely more, but the top-4 traits of a college HC are: roster construction offense and defense systems in-game coaching attention to detail Donovan has all of those. He'd be a fantastic hire.
  6. Many had major reservations about him being hired, but he did perform fairly well in an interim role: 22-8 (Beard Started 7-1) Big 12 Conf Tourney Champ Elite 8 Without the postseason run, he likely does not get hired. Texas was 19-4 at one point and closed out the regular season at 23-8, losing its last 4 road games. The biggest concerns were roster construction and in-game coaching. Conventional wisdom (at the time) was that he helped construct the team and the postseason run seemed to indicate he had the in-game coaching down. Time has told us that it was not true. Texas will move on from him... I agree it is frustrating to see Tre Johnson being squandered.
  7. Thanks for posting that @lazygringo I agree with the sentiments above - if nothing else, Ewers will get drafted for the deep out. But, we already know that for the most part. He excelled against the others in that video, for certain.
  8. Is the revised Model 2 from 2024+? A friend owns both a Tesla and Polestar. He says the Polestar is the worst car he has ever owned. Breakdowns, etc. The Hyundais are interesting and I like the styling (had one as an Uber), but I fear the Hyundai "quality"
  9. Agree not to cloak this thread, but I would be dishonest if acquiring a Tesla at this point did not give me pause. Be that as it may... Most of the newer EVs out there are fascinating, but have crazy MSRP and/or low range. VW van above falls into both categories. I am seeing a decent 2nd-ary market for Tesla right now. A 2023 M3 Long-range w/ 20k miles is selling for 65% of new - from Tesla. I think they can be had for less elsewhere, too.
  10. I intentionally left that part out. I’m not that cool about it, so I welcome alternatives.
  11. I drove the Chevy Silverado LT EV on Saturday and was extremely impressed. I worry about it being a new model - and that it is a little more pricey than I would like to spend on an unproven EV. I have considered a Tesla Model 3 because of its relatively low entry price point. However, the depreciation seems to be pretty steep on the Teslas these days. Thoughts I am having (1) just buy new or (2) buy used. #1 - I suffer depreciation, but the good/bad/ugly of the car is all on me. #2 - 2 years old and around $20k lower than new What do the Tesla owners and Tesla haters have to say? Ideally, I want a reasonably priced EV with range of 300 miles.
  12. Totally understand. I was fascinated and intrigued by it. And - sorry if it seemed like I was thread-crapping on your decision. I'm presently driving a 10-yr-old Toyota minivan because (1) it works (2) it is paid for and (3) I know everything about it. I am definitely not coming from a position of expertise I hope you love it. And agree w/ @GottaB about value retention.
  13. Congrats @C-Man I drove a 2025 Land Cruiser on Saturday and was left a little underwhelmed. It felt a little underpowered for its weight, but it could have just been my bias against the notion of a 2.4L 4-cylinder Turbo. It also had considerably more road noise than I would have expected for a $60k+ car.
  14. totally agree - just wanted to whine a bit and reflect on the "good old days". That said, I'd pay a premium for an imperial pint
  15. That's essentially what IBM did for some of its fabs to GF a while back. In 2015, IBM gave GF all of its fabs and $1.5B and agreed to purchase material from GF for 10 years.
  16. NY Times: Intel chairman seeks to give Intel Foundry control to TSMC No comment from either of Intel or TSMC.
  17. PH Burnet's Nitro stout is quite good right now. It's basically their traditional stout w/ Nitro as the propellant My son and I favor Green Battles, but it seems that it is now more of a seasonal for them. I like PH and appreciate their business, but will complain that the pints used to be around 20 oz at $6 and now feel more like 15oz for $7. And the HH prices of old were $4 for that same ~20 oz "pint".
  18. Used to be one of the better IPAs in Florida. Before Oskar Blues left Austin, they were the Central US brewer for Jai Alai, IIRC. It was great to get on tap and you could get it as part of their $6 6-packs on Sunday.
  19. Same. Their consistency waned a bit around 2 years ago, but they seem to have figured it out again
  20. OPI for a pick. Wow. Zero called during the regular season, I'm guessing
  21. "Rupert Murdoch is here. Good to see him." Uh - don't give a shit, other than seeing him separated from $30mm per year for the commenting atrocity that is Tom Brady.
  22. More Anne Hathaway.
