  1. Please remind me. Which one of these guys is Kenny Baker?
  2. Sigh. It takes 5x more time to expel retreads in Austin politics than it does in NFL coaching. Garza has been around since 1978. Watson has been in and out of Austin and state politics since the early 1990s. Just to mention 2. https://www.austintexas.gov/department/city-manager I do not see it written anywhere (could be my fault), but does this mean Bruce Mills is stepping aside?
  3. It would not surprise me at all. A random selection of Surly posters - 1 from each district - would be more effective and more functional that this city council. I've lived here since the 1970s and can never recall a time when a majority - or even plurality in a specific setting - thought the city government was a well-oiled machine. Hell, a V8 running on 3 cylinders would be more effective. That might be the fastest way to get him run out of town. We can only hope that's what's happening. @DalTxHornFan thanks for sharing that anecdote about getting between Art and a camera. Well done!
  4. John Wooden - and he had Lew Alcindor and Bill Walton ready to transfer.
  5. Sam's scan-and-go is fantastic. Surprised more people do not use it. Thanks for the ceviche recommendation. Never saw it there before, but picked up some today. Quite good.
  6. Lamar Jackson seems kind of like a jerk
  7. Not so sure. Stroud, Ryan, and Houston are far more interesting than Jackson, Harbaugh, and Ravens. Could be my bias, though.
  8. Before we knew the transfer QB was a "civil choker and rape enabler - and perhaps rapist," it was pretty shitty management to surprise his existing starting QB by bringing in another guy. It's even worse that you bring in a guy that Briles might have had second thoughts about (who am I kidding - Briles would have done it if he could get wins). Whenever anyone uses the "was never convicted and did not plead guilty" defense for a guy who clearly lost a civil suit - and admitted it - something is really wrong. OJ neither pleaded out nor was convicted, but he killed 2 people. I, too, am off the Kinne bandwagon.
  9. Coach Terry, it is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.
  10. I went to grad school after taking 1 year "off." I worked full time after undergrad and worked full time while getting MSEE part time. So, my path was considerably different than yours will be. That aside, if funding is not a problem and time is not a problem, just reach out to the grad coordinator and/or some faculty at the school/major/etc. you are interested in. Tell them your story. Ask questions, etc. Both will typically take the time to talk. I would not worry about the GPA. There are many factors that contribute to an undergrad GPA: work distractions, maturity of an 18 year old, being away from home, some shitty professors your Fr/So year, etc. You will be far more focused and driven now than then, etc. Good luck with it!
  11. https://www.aol.com/exclusive-art-acevedo-taking-271-193622853.html (AOL? - it is an AAS article) This is great - present interim city manager needs a liaison between him and APD. And it's worth $271k. And the city council decides they should hire the chief that darn near EVERYONE celebrated his departure. After AA left, any time I would encounter local PD (off duty security, helping after a collision, etc.), I'd ask about Acevedo. Most responded, "now that he is no longer our problem, we are glad to see him somewhere else." Or something like that. No CR, but this should remind us all to either (1) vote in our local elections and (2) make sure we get candidates who do more than consume oxygen. I am in district 6 and need to help prevent further damage. Kelly is a functional moron. No CR.
  12. How in the fuck is this cretin (the cretin being Acevedo in my rant) still employable, much less in a place he has name recognition? FFS.
  13. Hudson Card? No respect.
  14. Not sure it's as much a bold strategy as it is shitty senior leadership. When you inherit a team, you spend a little time figuring out what you have. Sure, you are going to have "your guys" but you need to make some level of effort to get to understand what's already in place. In many cases, the org structure does not tell you everything. Day 0 on job: get 2 hours to talk to Saban; get a brain dump on the pros/cons, best and worst administrators, best and worst $$$ Day 1 on the job: talk to team; 1:1 talks with people in roles you'll want to fill with "your guys" to make sure that's what you want to do; 1:1 talks with other senior people Days 2-3: 1:1 chats with every football staffer; Days 4-5: 1:1 chats with extended org It's a pretty basic approach to org transition, esp. when you inherit an intact capable team.
  15. Perhaps he did consult Saban and Saban said, "I don't give a shit. This is no longer my circus."
  16. Lucky for you, Nickelback is on the Houston Rodeo lineup this year. Shitty seats for a shitty band start at $40. No thanks.
  17. This is a picture of him when he was 62 - 2 years ago. That's a rough 62 for anyone in 2022, much less a person with his resources.
  18. I would have leaned toward Helton. He was a part of the first 2 seasons at WKU when Brohm started that turnaround. He was then hired by his brother to be QB coach and passing coordinator at USC. First season at WKU, they improved by 6 wins over the previous year. Helton's contract pays him $900k per year. Brennan was making about $2.3mm at SJSU. Fwiw, $2.3mm in San Jose goes about as far as $900k in Bowling Green, KY. Looks like Brennan will make around $3.1mm next year w/ $200k raises each year. They could have gotten Helton for a bit less, I presume, but no one asked me.
  19. He was the DC at Indiana in 2019 when DeBoer was the OC. Smells a little like Herman filling out his staff w/ all of his buddies, but he had some success at South Alabama. Applewhite to get promoted?
  20. Public school guidance - even at strong public schools - is going to be severely lacking. My older kids went to a very competitive NW Austin school and the counselors were responsible for a couple hundred kids. They did their best, but your kid's higher education interests and exploration is low on their list. They want your kid to graduate and be interested in college. Youngest kid went to a smaller private school and the guidance counselors - starting junior year - were about 80% focused on your college plan. Unsolicited advice - you and/or he should take some initial steps ASAP - even if you decide to hire an advisor. At least you've narrowed it a bit and you'll have a good enough understanding of the landscape to ask informed questions. You and he might be able to get about 75% of the value of an advisor by spending a few hours a month searching. The resources available online, esp. post-COVID, are amazing.
