  1. I was not a math major, but 85-56 = 29. 29 folks OUT. Checks math again. 29. Some are protecting draft stock (like Stutsman and similar...) Others are transfers or do not want to be owned by Navy.
  2. Miami's Jim Larranaga stepping down. No news on why, as of yet. He's 75 years old, so it could be health related. Miami was 15-17 last year and are 4-7 this year. https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/43168609/sources-jim-larranaga-talks-miami-stepping-down Larranaga replaced Frank Haith (present and former UT assistant) when Haith left for Missouri.
  3. True, but he (Middlekauf) could take 3 random posts from this thread and turn it into 30 minutes of idiotic rambling. EDIT to add: "former NFL scout" on Middlekauf's CV is somewhat damning. "Prolific message board poster and aspiring NFL scout" is less damning.
  4. Late to the show on this one. This is Colin Cowherd and John Middlekauff, with Middlekauff making the "coaching around Quinn" statements. For the record, he is a *former* NFL scout and *former* contributor for the Athletic Bay Area. He is now a podcast host who "is not afraid to swim into any topic." He's going to monetize his good/bad/whatever takes until he no longer can. Pro-blue blood takes sell; anti-blue blood takes sell. Until people tire of you. I listened to him for about 30 seconds and tired of him.
  5. I see Norton as a late round pick or a UFA signing, depending upon his performance at the combine or UT's pro day. His stats here (13 tackles) and at Airzona (32 tackles) are not going to attract attention, but that's because of his role in PK's defense - to eat blockers and allow others to do their jobs. In the latter part of his NFL career, Siragusa played at 6'3"/330 (I think he was heavier, but who cares). At Pitt, he was 6'5"/240 as an incoming freshman and played at 6'5"/255 as a soph. An interesting note: he was a state champion wrestler in HS. When I first read it, I wondered how massive Siragusa was in HS. Fwiw.
  6. Listening to a bunch of random 80s-00s music with extended family and decided to share this one. Recorded in 1992 when Soundgarden opened for GnR on the Use Your Illusion Tour. My personal discovery of Soundgarden was at Waterloo records in late 1989 or early 1990. A&M records promo'd a lot of their newer artists with deep discounts. Bought the Soundgarden Louder than Love cassette (yes, cassette) for $4.44. Enjoy... And what I heard the first time I heard the song
  7. PH must be printing money selling 1/6 and 1/4 kegs of EJ. Everywhere in Austin sells it for $9-$12 a pint (except PH). Damned NYC prices. If you are an APA or IPA fan, try their Green Battles at Burnet. For a while there, I was convinced that only my son, his friends, and I ordered it, as it left the menu for around 6 months. I likely doxxed him and me with the above statement if there are any PH folks here.
  8. Klare had Purdue and Texas as 2 of his choices - and he chose tosu. Shit. He's from Cincinnati, so he should know better.
  9. Also - drink their beer. One of the better breweries in Austin area, IMO.
  10. Bringing some wine to a family holiday event. Son will be cooking beef. Looking for some recommendations that will be (1) delicious and (2) not break the bank. Thanks in advance.
  11. Pro Tip: If you need some of the basics for holiday cooking, go before 10am. I went to 3 HEBs in NW Austin yesterday afternoon looking for shredded sharp cheddar. Braker, 183/Spicewood, and AM/620. 2 were out of parsley. 2 were out of Monterrey Jack. Yes, I could have bought a brick and grated it myself, but why do that when I can drive to 3 different HEBs in a 4 mile radius? None were shit-shows, though, as they've done a pretty good job at figuring out how to quickly take our money.
  12. some lower tier action
  13. Yeah - not exactly the ringing endorsement they might think it is. However, it least it was not "As an NFL QB coach, he worked with Art Schlichter, JaMarcus Russell, Todd Marinovich, and Rick Mirer."
  14. Self-quote w/ a followup to Purude's staff, fwiw. Not a murderer's row of coaching, but far better than what previous coach assembled. 4 guys from UNLV, 2 guys from Arkansas (one who played for Odom). HC: Barry Odom OC/TE: Josh Henson (USC OC/OL 22-24, Aggy OL 19-21, OkSt, 25 years coaching) OL: Vance Vice (UNLV 23-24, VT 16-21) QB: Darin Hinshaw (UCF co-OC/QB 23-24, UAB 22, 25 years coaching) WR/AHC: Cornell Ford (22-24 UNLV, 20-22 Toledo, Missouri with Odom) RB: Lamar Conard (23-24 Purdue RB coach, Miami (OH), Illinois St, played at Purdue 96-99) DC: Mike Scherer (UNLV 23-24, Ark 21-22, played for Odom at Missouri) DL: Kelvin Odom (Arky: Asst DL coach 22-24, Delta state) DE: Jake Trump (Arky: Defense quality control - played for Odom at Missouri) DB: Charles Clark (Memphis 20-24, Ole Miss 2019, 17-18 Oregon; played at Ole Miss 03-07) ST: James Shibest (UNLV 23-24, VT 16-21) I am optimistic, but a little concerned about the OC/QB coach situation. None of these guys called plays at their prior stop. Henson watched Riley at USC. Hinshaw watched Malzahn do it at UCF. I guess it cannot get much worse than 1-11.
  15. Wow. Sac State - the educational side - has an endowment of around $120mm and an annual budget of $431mm. It looks like the 23 CSU schools pool funds for an overall endowment of around $2.5B, which could be where the $120 estimate comes from. The article from Sept indicates they had a goal of securing $50mm in NIL funds. No comments on how much would be distributed annually. I suspect it is $35mm in commitments, with several conditions and caveats. Interesting quote: Five days ago, the school announced plans for a new multi-use football stadium. The Sac12 executive committee announced Monday afternoon it has sourced $35 million in NIL funds from local businesses, community leaders and a local tribe in the last 24 hours.
  16. The female singer dancing as he jams is David's daughter Romany Gilmour. Here's another video I found with a track of his recent release - Romany sings lead.
  17. Channeling QB Kenny Pickett's small hands on that play.
  18. https://www.statmuse.com/nfl/ask/most-turnovers-in-an-nfl-game-and-win Says there have been games won with 9 turnovers. Most are before 1970. Titans beat the Browns in 2000 w/ 7 turnovers. https://www.espn.com/nfl/matchup/_/gameId/201119010
  19. I guess they do not consider the actual score . 100% of the time, the team with 38 points beats the team with 24 points.
  20. IMO, my bitching was for legitimate gripes . Or opportunities for improvement. The over-crowded west-side upper-deck concourse has been a problem for years. There's a safety aspect and "need to figure out how to separate customers from their money" aspect that CDC should spend time figuring out. When I have sat on the north side or east side, it's nowhere near as bad, but the seats are inferior, so I will "suffer" for the in-game experience of the west side. Oblivious people being oblivious. It is a whine, but I cannot change anyone. I can only change my reaction, which is to bitch on an internet message board. Mariachi - Ok - that's just me bitching about personal preference - I concede, however it was more that 2 mins of the entire experience. Bathroom floors covered in standing water. That's a problem, IMO. The in-stands/in-seats experience was great. I was merely pointing out some basics that could be improved to make it a more seamless experience. You are right that the entire game experience is top-notch. I've attended games at other stadiums and DKR is top-notch.
  21. I'll take 2 more decades of Wooderson and the Undertaker, provided there is a per-game 30-second limit on mariachi - All in the first half.
  22. Their coaching staff does have a few recognizable names. Hines Ward - WR - glad to see his CTE has not yet kicked in. Bryan Carrington - our favorite former Texas recruiting specialist - is ASU's CB coach. Wonder if he has reached Jay Valai level of competency yet. Their OC was HC at UNLV (7-23) before Odom (who was 19-8). Their DC was at Washington State and Nevada before joining ASU. It makes sense why they were picked low in the Big12. 35/44 of the 2-deep from their 3-9 team was returning.
  23. Couple more thoughts on yesterday's game: - They still have not figured out how to take people's money fast enough to move them out of the concourse. It is so crowded that it could be dangerous. - Many people act as if they've never attended an event where there are 1000s of other people in attendance. They look down at their phone and stop walking. When there is a clear straight path, they walk like they are sailing upwind. - Mariachis were fine for about 80 seconds. Then it took the entire 3 minute timeout. Then, they went on a second time. Destroyed all of the energy in the stadium. - West side upper deck - south men's bathroom had around 0.5 cm of standing water near the toilets. I sat in 104 yesterday. Fans were great. View was great.
