Quinn "La Joya" Ewers - The Man The Myth The Mullet
Voluminous Banality replied to Coach pop a bitch's topic in Football
With apologies for the pedantry, that's actually not what 'prone' means. 'Prone' isn't backward-looking--how many times someone has been injured in the past--it's forward-looking, i.e. more susceptible to injury and therefore more likely to be injured again in the future, which I am positing is not the case. I may be wrong, but I'm hoping for the best for Quinn's future and for the team's prospects this year in what could be a special season. -
Quinn "La Joya" Ewers - The Man The Myth The Mullet
Voluminous Banality replied to Coach pop a bitch's topic in Football
On the "Quinn is injury prone stuff," here is the injury against Alabama his freshman year: And this is the play last year where he was injured against Houston: Are these injuries due to being injury prone? I don't know; he got absolutely blasted on both. One was a late hit personal foul where he went from suspended in the air to pile driven into the turf by the POS, Dallas Turner. Brett Favre would have been injured on that play. The second was a big, big hit he took while running where he probably shouldn't have been running. From early returns this year, he's developed into the kind of quarterback who won't be taking a lot of hits like that. Last night, I think he injured himself on the first TD when his arm was hit while extended. The abdominal strain could have happened there or subsequently. In either case, those are fairly common QB injuries. If Drew Brees can recover from a dislocated throwing shoulder to play another 15 years in the NFL, Quinn will be fine. His injuries look to me like a function of dirty play (Alabama), a bad decision that he learned from (Houston), and plain bad luck (UTSA). Arch looks like a good one, but reports of Ewers' death have been greatly exaggerated. -
This is going to be a special season. Week 3 and we've already witnessed the ascent of aggy's second generational quarterback. If Weigman had not irrevocably injured his shoulder during pregame warmups, the sky was the limit for him (Heisman, anyone?). But with Marcel Reed playing at this level, I don't see how Conner gets his job back. Reed is him.

2024 CFB polls/rankings - Texas #3/ #3 /#3 (CFP/AP/Coaches)
Voluminous Banality replied to TKthunder2's topic in Football
Aggy is still in the top-10 in my Texas in-state rankings. I won’t update every week, just a few times throughout the season. If anyone else would like to update these during the season with your own rankings, feel free to jump in any time. 1. Texas (2-0) - Texas owns two of the best performances in the state in the early going. Next game: UTSA 2. TCU (2-0) - The Horned Frogs looked a bit shaky in their opener against Stanford, but a road win against an ACC opponent and a shutout over Long Island is enough to keep them at #2. Next game: UCF 3. Texas State (1-1) - The Bobcats were dominant in a 49-10 blowout of UTSA in the opener before losing a close one against Arizona State. Next game: Sam Houston 4. SMU (2-1) - The Ponies produced only 144 yards passing and 261 yards of offense in a narrow defeat to BYU. They’ll need to improve on that side of the ball after the bye week in the battle for the iron skillet. Next game: TCU 5. North Texas (2-0) - The Mean Green are 2-0 for the first time since 2018. Next game: Texas Tech 6. Baylor (1-1) - After falling behind 17-0 in the first quarter against #11 Utah, the Bears kept it close before falling 23-12. It’s the best loss among the 1-1 teams. Next game: Air Force 7. Houston (0-2) - The Cougars out-gained Oklahoma, limiting the Sooners to less than 250 yards of offense, and were a failed two-point conversion away from being in position to send the game to overtime. Next game: Rice 8. Texas A&M (1-1) - Quarterback Conner Weigman improved on his week 1 performance with 125 passing yards in week 2, but some of the shine came off the Aggies’ top-10 loss in the opener when Notre Dame fell at home to Northern Illinois. Still, they remain in position for an invitation to a 12-team in-state playoff. Next game: Florida 9. UTSA (1-1) - The road doesn’t get any easier for the Roadrunners coming off a drubbing by Texas State as they face the Longhorns this week. Next game: Texas 10. Sam Houston (1-1) - The Bearkats fell to UCF after dominating Rice in the season opener. Next game: Hawaii 11. Rice (1-1) - The Owls’ 69-7 win over Texas Southern keeps them just out of the bottom three. Next game: Houston 12. Texas Tech (1-1) - The Red Raiders were trounced in the Pirate Bowl after holding off Abilene Christian 52-51 at home in overtime. Less than two years after head coach Joey McGuire famously declared, “Everything runs through Lubbock,” five star receiver Micah Hudson has 1 catch for 4 yards and Tech is struggling to change the dynamic in state the way it expected to. They’ll have a chance to move up this week against the #5 Mean Green. Next game: North Texas 13. Abilene Christian (1-1) - The Wildcats piled up over 600 yards of offense against Texas Tech, falling 52-51 after missing chances to put the game away at the end of regulation and again in overtime. They bounced back with a win over West Georgia. Next game: Northern Colorado 14. UTEP (0-2) - UTEP looks poised to hold down this spot much of the season. Next game: Liberty -
Texas Recruiting Notes 2025: Duck Around and Find Out

The speed with which they went from, "Texas can't handle the every week SEC grind" to "This is a watered down SEC" is breathtaking. We haven't played a conference game yet, but if that school in the state capital had to compete in a big boy conference, they wouldn't have such a cakewalk to the playoff.

This staff is developing the hell out of players, from walk ons to five stars. Ewers, Blue, Helm, Majors, Conner, C. Williams, Broughton, Gbenda, Guilbeau, Barron, and Taaffe are just a few who have shown incredible growth in attitude, strength and body composition, positional technique, confidence, and general ability to bring it and contribute big time on the field. It's a big reason that Texas looks poised to possibly be even better this year after having 11 players drafted. Recruits need to take note. If you are a four star or five star, Texas is where you go to fulfill your potential. If you are a lower-rated recruit, this staff can maximize your talent, put you in the right position to succeed, and get you drafted.

No, not that one. I think you're talking about this play here: I'm talking about this one: Boneheaded postgame press conference aside, Warren actually made several high-level throws.

I have to disagree with some of this. It's a misperception that turnovers are always unforced errors. Alabama turned the ball over in that game because Texas' D-line was beating their ass all night. When Milroe threw it right at Barron, that wasn't an unforced mistake. Barron baited Milroe into that throw; that's what Jahdae Barron does. Sure, any game can go differently if a few key plays break the other way, but there was as much shooting of itself in the foot by Texas in that game as by Alabama (e.g. Xavier Worthy dropped TD, Bert Auburn missed FG). Early in the fourth quarter, Texas trailed 16-13 after mostly controlling the game. On the two Alabama could-be-touchdowns that were called back, one was a blatant hold by the Tide which prevented a Texas sack of Milroe. The other was a near-interception by Jaylan Ford that bounced right off his hands. I'm not a fan of the woulda coulda shoulda game, but if we're going to play that game, those weren't two should-be touchdowns for Alabama; it was a should-be sack and a coulda-been interception for Texas. Texas could've won by more than it did. The narrative coming out of that game was, yes, great game by Texas, but this isn't the same Alabama team as in the past. Alabama fans almost universally believed that Texas won because Milroe is trash when in fact it was clear watching that game that Milroe made a lot of great plays and that his playmaking was the only thing keeping Alabama in it. Almost no one was predicting that Alabama would run the table or reach the playoff. This was a flawed team that had at least another loss or two on the schedule. We saw how it turned out. 2024 Michigan won't be as good as 2023 Alabama. I'm still not buying that they are absolute trash and will lose 5 or 6 games. That's just the narrative that emerges when Texas goes in and beats the doors off a national power early in the season. In a contrarian take, I also don't expect Warren to be as bad as most people are saying. While inconsistent, he flashed with quite a few really good throws. The 4th and 4 throw for 15 yards with a blitzer right in his face was absurd. Like Sark said, Texas is good. This is who we are. The rest of the country needs to get used to it.

These are all fine takes. Just a reminder that after beating Alabama in their house last year, much of the narrative was about how Alabama had fallen off and shot themselves in the foot with turnovers. The QB is terrible, this isn't the same Alabama, etc. By the end of the year, Milroe was in the Heisman discussion and Alabama was in the playoff (and nearly beat Michigan to boot). Michigan isn't likely to run the table like Alabama did, but I'll also hold off on buying the narrative that that wasn't a top-20 team we faced yesterday. Although Davis "We did this to ourselves" Warren didn't want to admit it, maybe, just like last year, Texas was just that good.

I think Warren got his postgame cliches mixed up (much like he was confused between the white and blue jerseys during the game). "It came down to a few plays in the fourth quarter" and "we let 'em off the hook" are usually reserved for nail-biters that go down to the wire, not blowouts that were 24-3 at halftime and easily could have been more like 41-6.

Dude, you were allowed by the site owner to post your advertising here without charge. Most businesses and freelancers pay for that privilege. You also received a lot of positive remarks on your work, which is cool. But you'll get farther here if you drop the attitude and accept the constructive feedback together with the compliments. Thin skin will get you nowhere on a sports-related message board, especially this one. TexMexBuddha is right; if you'll be doing more work for Longhorn athletes or Longhorn NIL initiatives, you'll want to get the orange right. That isn't a slam; it's just a fact and a detail that an artist such as yourself will want to take note of since detailing is kind of what you do.
