COVID-19 2nd wave - Texas only - Stats and such
A visual of this thread. I'm guessing our post count by day is a lagging indicator of where Texas is. Our posts by day in this thread show we've peaked.

COVID-19 vaccine discussion
Aren't we coming up on open enrollment season for most employer provided health plans? Seems like a ripe opportunity to, ahem, encourage folks with varying premium options depending on your vaccination status...

AISD's (and other districts) Plans for Schools Starting August 18
If the child didn't start showing symptoms until Sunday night, wouldn't that mean no one else in the class needs to quarantine?

Probably because the sick kid wasn't in class yesterday, but was on Friday? No need to test until symptoms present. And even then it's supposed to be a couple days later. If you test now, you'll probably just get a negative.

I'll do what I can to track AISD daily changes. Give me a day or so to set it up.

COVID-19 2nd wave - Texas only - Stats and such
There's two groups, the anti-vax and the for-some-reason-still-not-YET-vaxxed. This is two month old polling from the CDC, but the split in those two groups were 20% each. 60% of Texans were already vaccinated at the time of the polling. 20% of the "not yet" group is a lot and that's who we need to focus our efforts on. Calling them fucking morons probably won't work. We're quick to assume that those who have not yet gotten the vaccine is "an Other" or our political enemy, but the reality is there are 20% who are just on their own timetable for some reason. Many of those are our neighbors, teachers, parents and college kids. We need more free HEB Gift Cards, Astros tickets, & squish balls and fewer Passports and "Keys to the City"

Since it was discussed up thread, from AISD's e-blast just now:

Lobo, Plexi glass isn't going to stop a virus. Your time is more valuable than that.

@ jiggy z, What's the largest class there? That all seems reasonable for a school that small covering 6 grade levels where hopefully most of the school is vaccinated?

That's exactly what we should be doing though.

Since they're still getting adult sized doses, we used our kid's sizes as a determinant. Our 12 year old was about as big as my wife when he got his shots. My almost 11 year old is tiny, so if we're going to go down that route for him, I'd prefer to wait for the Pfizer Jr version.

No easy decisions when it comes to your own children. What circumstances would allow your families to confidently choose in-person learning?

Tractor Supply should say ivermectin now comes in an injectable form, but it's two doses three or four weeks apart... Depends on the flavor, of course

So... They reopened in June after the "no mask mandate mandate" went into effect and then two months later closed down under the same circumstances in a town where many are already vaccinated and/ or masking? And they operate out of a church? Couldn't the church do them a solid and say "masks or gtfo?"

PUF under attack by butthurt leftovers
My favorite Aggy joke: You know why A&M only gets 1/3 of the PUF? They chose first.

COVID-19 2nd wave - Texas only - Stats and such
It might be true, but this is a pretty shaky logic string. Maybe they're partnering with the Chamber of Commerce and the Tourism Board to make sure they have the correct denominator?

Is this the Aspen version of "bus loads of untested migrants dropped off in the middle of Austin"?

COVID-19 2nd wave - Texas only - Stats and such
Yeah sorry, that wasn't directed at you, more the article. If I'm migrating away from some shit and there's a cure at the end of my journey, I'm going to hit a CVS first thing where they ask zero questions about where I came from and get a shot. And I'll admit, my take is pretty shaky, but so is the click bait doom porn article.

Or, even better why assume they're unvaccinated?

Man, there will be a lot of data to sift through in a year or so regarding masks and infections in schools.

COVID-19 vaccine discussion
Someone else had a link from UT health that said peak in mid October. That seems like a pretty big discrepancy... I'd prefer today, but what's the difference between the two?

For the vaccinated who are back to wearing masks indoors, what data are you using for when it's safe to go back indoors without a mask?
-
COVID-19 vaccine discussion
Why not do what we should've been doing from the start: fast, accurate testing on a routine basis? This solves for the under 12 crowd who can't get vaccinated. I have no problem places asking for proof of vaccination as long as there's also an option for recent negative test.
