  1. Was out for a hike before work this morning and saw my first grizzly bear of the year. It took off before I could get a pic. When you see one it always makes you glad you have your shooting iron with you.
  2. The moose are out enjoying the warmer temps
  3. Saw something cool today. Never seen a set up like this on a full size truck. I covet this.
  4. Called around and finally found some .44 mag in Anchorage. Buffalo Bore heavy .44. $63 for 20 rounds. Insane.
  5. Apparently there is little to no .44 mag in Alaska. That's convenient. I mean it's not like it's a popular caliber up here or anything.
  6. Nice to get the first win. Sorry for the jinx on the first 2 games. I purchased the MLB radio stream package to be able to listen to all the games. The Baseball Gods acted accordingly. My bad.
  7. Here is my guess. So if the line attached between the tripod which is sitting on the ice on the Tanana River and the official clock on the shore breaks at 3:37 pm on April 30 I get a share of the jackpot.
  8. I like them a lot. I have very big hands. For me it was painful to shoot that gun with the original grips, especially the bear loads I run through it. With the Hogue monogrip I can shoot it all day without much discomfort. It's not the prettiest thing, but this gun is function over everything.
  9. Cross post from the Alaska thread mainly for Brat since he’s a Ruger guy. Bear season started yesterday with the first grizzly sighting in the neighborhood. Took the .44 mag out for some practice when I got the text.
  10. Got a text that the first grizzly was sighted in the hood today. They are waking up a little early this year. Always exciting to see that first bear. Took the .44 mag out for a spin to make sure I could still shoot it. I’ll buy new bear spray tomorrow.
  11. I will give it a try next time I’m in town. I live on BBQ, Mexican food, Whataburger, and Allsup’s burritos when I’m in Texas.
  12. The institution did definitely suck. Two ACU stories: I had a high school friend that stayed and went to ACU. My first time back to Abilene was end of Fall semester freshman year and we saw each other at the mall. Got to talking and I found out that just the tuition for one of his 3 hour courses at ACU cost more than all of my tuition, books, and fees for 15 hours at UT. Blew my fucking mind. Same friend next visit back to Abilene. Asked me if I wanted to hang out...sure I said. Go over to his apartment and they've put together a full on Jesus intervention for me because they are worried about my soul. I still to this day don't think I've laughed as hard in my life. I thought it was a joke. They were not amused. Told them to fuck off and I'd see them all in Hell as I left. Needless to say our friendship did not survive "The Meeting" as it's known in my household.
  13. That was my experience too. And all the girls from ACU seemed to be at least 8's or higher. Unreal the talent there.
  14. Yeah, The Stairs comment brought back the memories. You and I probably crossed paths back in the day in or around The Stairs. It was literally the only thing to do as a youngster in Abilene. I had a buddy who was friends with the door guys so we were always able to sneak in. Loved the Abilene Christian girls who went there. They knew they were going to get in trouble if the school found out they were there so they always made the most of it. I was usually able to talk at least one of them to go check out the blue lights by the airport and smoke a joint with me. And late night drunk sopapillas at EL Chico were the shit. Wish I still had that high school metabolism.
  15. Nice, a fellow Warbird. Inbox checked. Sent you a reply.
  16. We each only take one guess a year, so $5 over 12 years is $60. It gets exciting when the ice starts to go around your time. Like I said my wife missed it by 2 minutes one year. Very intense.
  17. Born and raised in Abilene as well. Abilene High School, class of 1989. Got the fuck out of there as quickly as I could too. Matriculated to the 40 acres and never went back. My wife and I take turns going back every quarter or so to check in on my aging parents. It was my turn. Neither of us like it, but it is something we have to do. They have no one else.
  18. Yep. The 2 most influential sports moments of my youth were the Miracle on Ice in 1980 and Roger Clemens pitching the Horns to the CWS title in 1983 over Alabama. Decided to become a Red Sox fan when they drafted him not understanding the pain, agony, and anguish I voluntarily signed up for. But I'm a loyal fucker. I've stuck through it with my Horns and I'll stick through it with my Sox.
  19. I've never understood the snow machine thing either, but they are adamant about it up here. You can always go old school and call them Snow Go's. I just got back from Abilene, Texas and had some pretty good BBQ at Jay's BBQ Shack. I would definitely recommend if anyone is ever in Abilene. Brisket was very good, very tender. They make their sausage in house and the 3 pepper Jack cheese was as good as any sausage I've ever had. DM me when you get up here again and I'll give you the local's tour. Tourist season is already starting to ramp up. Don't know why it didn't include your quote up above, but I was responding to your Codependent Season comment.
  20. Hits too close to home. It’s called break up season for a couple of different reasons. Lots of relationships end in the early spring for some reason.
  21. Lulz Bears and wolves and the other forest creatures don’t bother me, but the ocean freaks me the fuck out. I will not get into it. Those critters make me squeal like a prepubescent girl.
