Aside on the issue of Greek life, etc. My youngest is going to Texas State. In high school she lettered in three sports for all four years, thus had plenty of friends and friend groups. She decided not to continue soccer or running in college - which led to her not having any friends when she got on campus last year. Her fall semester was rough for that reason. She didn't have any interest in a sorority, which is fine by me. I told her to check out one of the spirit organizations - every campus has them, they are social, and the members get involved in the university beyond just academics. She joined a group last spring and no social life issues were resolved. This fall she also tried out for and made the club soccer team.
College is not nearly as social as when most of us were there. We kept our dorm room door open and knew everyone on the floor - they don't do that anymore (at least the girls).
