  1. I predict Nashville scores first.
  2. Pomegranate glazed pork ribs. Some of the most flavorful ribs I've ever had.
  3. I agree that Burnt Bean has, overall, better food than Louis Mueller. However, if I'm taking someone who has come to Texas to eat at only one barbecue joint, I'd take them to Louis Mueller. I love Texas barbecue and the fact that so many places are able to turn out great tasting barbecue these days is incredible. I put a great deal of weight on the history of Texas barbecue, though. My two favorite places to get barbecue in Texas are Louis Mueller and Smitty's. Louis Mueller's barbecue is far better than Smitty's and the Louis Mueller beef rib is still one of the best bites of barbecue I've ever had.

That TM article was quite a read.
  5. All too often, Mayim seems surprised when a contestant give the correct answer. <weird pause> Almost as if she has to look at her notes to discern the answer is correct.
  6. If Red Snapper Veracruz is wrong, I don't wanna be right.
  7. I think I admitted this in some guilty pleasures thread - when most any Culture Club song comes on, I can sing all the words. Never had a Culture Club album, never listened to them purposefully, but I'll be damned if I don't happily sing along. Actually caught half of the Culture Club set at ACL last year - eventually, my wife made us leave and go to another stage.
  8. After my wife watching me watch four and a half seasons, she decided she should watch. I'm happily re-watching all of the previous seasons.
  9. I'll be the naysayer. I drive the hell out of vehicles and repair most things along the way. As a reference, my last suburban was 18 years old and had 260k miles when I got rid of it. If you don't want to repairs yourself, you are going to spend a bunch of money. Especially on car that had all of the bells and whistles when new. Old things break. Electric window switch, multifunction turn signal/wiper lever, a/c diverters, alternators . . . The parts are usually not that expensive and most of these things can be fixed in your driveway after watching a couple youtube videos. However, these are not cheap to get fixed by mechanics. I would enjoy it as it is and fix a few things to make it as good as it can be right now. I wouldn't sink thousands of dollars into it thinking that'll do the trick.
  10. I think Heathers is the only one I haven't seen multiple times.
  11. No chance you hit all of those joints in one day. Franklin still has a several hour wait and Louis Mueller is slow as molasses (which means at least an hour). Valentina's can be a long wait as well. There are also hours of driving in between all of these spots. If you are still planning on a Sunday (which is the brunch day at Burnt Bean), then scratch both Barbs, Mueller, and City Market off. With that being said. You could hit Burnt Bean for brunch and Valentina's for a Real Deal Holyfield breakfast taco. Chose a place to wait in line for in Austin - LeRoy & Lewis. Then head to Lockhart and hit a couple places. Grabbing sausage and crackers at Smitty's before heading back home.
  12. It's been 15-20 years since I had Chisholm Trail and I wasn't impressed. Might just be my nostalgia for Kreuz/Smitty's, though.
  13. My first real barbecue experience was at Kreuz Market in the early 1980's - when it was stilled owned by Edgar Schmidt. At that time it was located in the original building where Smitty's is now. Back then they didn't have bread, sides, or even forks. Brisket and sausage on a saltine cracker was really damn good, though. To this day, I always eat Kreuz or Smitty's barbecue on crackers.
  14. Outside of possibly Barbs, which isn't open on Sundays, Terry Blacks has the best barbecue in Lockhart. If you are going to hit more than one place, the history at Smitty's Market makes it my favorite place in Lockhart. I would get brisket, ribs, and sides at Terry Black's and sausage and crackers at Smitty's.
  15. Brisket picture brought to you by Lincoln Riley.
  16. I apartment building with 24 units completely destroyed, 3 other buildings partially damaged. The work done to prevent further loss is amazing. There is a neighborhood of townhomes nearby that were in the path of the fire and, as I understand, all were spared. The fire burned all around and right up to that little neighborhood.
  17. Such a fun show. My college age daughters (no pics) really like it. It's nice to see another generation experience Steve Martin and Martin Short.
  18. I think he was pointing out the visual double negative.
