If you are not already doing the Captain Morgan's Designated Driver Program, you should. I get my free water while everyone else pays $15 for beer.

I'm still going to go. I'll just be bitching about it being too late the whole time.

I'm too old to be out that late.
  4. I used to listen to Stuff You Should Know on trips. Puts everyone else to sleep and I get peace and quiet.
  5. I would recommend Calamine lotion. It has to be the pink stuff in a glass bottle - not some new hippy stuff that is white or clear from a plastic container.
  6. Felt would have been of no help here. Wading boots with studs may have been helpful.
  7. Llano update. Checked out four access points yesterday. Maso-Llan Rd - TPWD access point. Had to call ahead and get a gate code. River was wide and about 6 feet deep in the channel. Caught several guads on a Llanolope and one nice largemouth on a olive crawfish. Fishing around rocks was most productive. Waded upriver some, but probably should have waded farther up to the rocks at the bend. Castell - fished up river from the crossing. Caught 6-7 nice guads, similar to the on in the post above, on a Llanolope. I preferred this spot to the first spot because the fish were concentrated in deeper holes edged by vegetation. All of the nice guads were caught in a 15 yard stretch of river. Lunch at the Castell General Store - great burgers. CR 103 - parked at another TPWD access point just up from the crossing, up river on the south side. Wide open river with little ability to wade. Significant silt on the rocks made it difficult to even get in. Didn't even fish. Since it was afternoon, there were several families swimming around the CR 103 crossing, so we didn't try to find another spot. CR 102 - Families swimming at the crossing near the north side, so we parked on the south side. Decided to wade upstream to some deeper pool. So much silt on the pink granite rocks it was near impossible to walk - I busted my ass once. Since it was late and I'm too old to risk busting my ass over and over, we headed back to the truck and drove home. Next time we go, we'll head back to Mason to fish the James River, the confluence of the James and Llano and the crossings at and above Hwy 87. All in all a great day of exploring new spots and catching nice fish.
  8. One of several fun Guadalupe bass from this morning's trip to the Llano.
  9. Stopped by La BBQ for lunch today. Ordered ahead online and picked up at 11:45 with no line, no waiting. There were about 25 people in line when I was there. No pics because it was to-go. Moist brisket was cooked well with an incredibly flavorful bark. Chipotle slaw was way too spicy with both chipotle powder and black pepper. Probably would have been better without the heavy black pepper. Glad to see they are still rocking along.
  10. Mine are truck specific. The guy that I get plates from has a couple sets of car 1969 plate pairs.
  11. My truck stays outside and these plates do not weather well. I think they were originally designed to be used for one year. After posting, I contacted my plate guy about a couple more sets.
  12. There might have been a change around 2011 or so. My YOM plates are now covered in surface rust and will need to be replaced eventually. I have 3 or 4 more 1969 sets (nos with consecutive numbers).
  13. I thought more about the earlier discussion regarding La BBQ's statement about being the first women and lesbian owned barbecue joint in the state. Probably just a post for Pride month as opposed to a specific reaction to Barbs-B-Q's entry into the barbecue scene. Here's Daniel Vaughn's article about LeAnn Mueller - sounds like a heart attack or something similar.
  14. We stopped at Taco Bell for some Mexican eatin' . . .
  15. You can run year specific plates without registering as classic or antique. My is registered normally and I have 1969 truck plates. No restrictions on mileage, etc. The best old plates are the 1968 Hemisfair white on black car plates.
  16. Bump prior to 2023. Started watching the Tour de France Unchained documentary on Netflix. Behind-the-scenes look at the 2022 tour. I find it enjoyable and a nice way to get pumped for this year's tour.
  17. That's how I took it. Barb's is getting a fair amount of press related to the LGBTQ side of it.
  18. Check your mother's insurance. My mom had humana and they covered Lifeline 100%. It was also set up to call a service, but the one time she used it they called me first.
  19. I don't disagree and it was my first thought as well. However, this is the wives stupid shit thread. Eventually, SH will have a story about a $79 egg tray that his wife picked up at Williams-Sonoma on sale for $59. Wives' nature abhors a vacuum.
  20. @Brisketexan - here are my thoughts on the Llano.
  21. Thursday - Kona's TX Barbecue in Hutto. Trailer that came it when Pustka's Family Barbecue moved to their brick and motor in Temple. Moist brisket was cooking well and seasoned okay. Pork rib was flavorful, but slightly under cooked. Saturday - Interstellar BBQ. Al pastor lamb chop, peach tea glazed pork belly, moist brisket, poblano creamed corn, jalapeno slaw. Everything was excellent. I love that they cook different items - John was starting some cabrito over open coals when I was leaving. Got there around 10:00 and was probably 10th in line - eating by 11:15. Sunday - Stiles Switch in Cedar Park. Smoked wings - buffalo and peach habanero. Smoked then flash fried to order. Better wings than most places that specialize in wings. Buffalo was by the better of the two. Peach habanero was sweet with only a little heat. I had a different sweet/hot variety a couple months ago and it was great.
  22. Yeah. I try to hit every barbecue joint I can and my first reaction was - fuck that.
  23. Has anyone hit Barbs-B-Q yet? I was thinking about checking it out this weekend, but then I looked at their menu - brisket is $36 per pound ($2 more per pound than Franklin); pork ribs and turkey are $30 per pound. That seems insane. The business model has been questioned all along - one day a week and all. Pricing like you've been anointed best barbecue in Texas on day one - wow.
