  1. The only name I read on here that would give us the automatic bump in credibility this programs needs is Meyer. Hiring another up and comer would probably get eaten alive by the intrusive BMDs. Does anyone really know if Meyer would take the job? I don't think his wife wants him to. And yes, her opinion matters.
  2. Texas alone didn't ruin the Big XII. But Dodds' made some decisions and took some actions that alienated many of its members. And I'm not letting the devious Aggies off the hook either. For all their talk about honor, their deceit in negotiating behind everyone's backs was anything but honorable. And then laying ALL the blame on Texas and the LHN violates any definition of integrity, not to mention violating a commandment. But that's another story. I'm not gonna go back and watch the TCU game and it was 3 weeks ago so I barely remember any details other than a play here or there. So how was it not a legitimate game?
  3. I think ags have a great shot at making the playoffs. Winning their division doesn't matter. Yes, a few things have to fall in place, like Clemson losing to ND again. I'd hate to see it, cause that will legitimize their program. Thanks, Deloss. Your greed and arrogance ruined the Big XII. It's a slow death, but a death nonetheless. And really, who cares where SMU is ranked? Sad state of UT football when that is on the radar.
  4. If you play on a perennially good team in high school which goes deep into the playoffs, your rating is increased exponentially. If you re a great player on a middling team, you go to TCU, get coaching, and beat the piss out of Texas 3 out of 4 years. Patterson evaluates. Our coaches subscribe to recruiting services. I obviously don't watch every team as closely as I watch Texas, but IMO our talent is so overrated it's not even funny. Apparently the NFL doesn't think much of us either.
  5. If I understand this correctly we do own our own fate. Then again, so does OU, OSU and Iowa State and I think maybe even KSU. This seems to be our rallying cry every year. Of course we controlled our own fate before we played OU and TCU, too. Didn't seem to motivate us much.
  6. I've been wondering about his rating in high school also. He's a good tackler. But he's not a playmaker. Nothing special about him, IMO.
  7. I don't see a raise or an extension in Herman's immediate future. But I don't see him gone either. This team is definitely capable of losing 2-3 more games this year. But also capable of running the table. Either outcome will determine his immediate future, IMO.
  8. This qualifies as a very great win to me. That doesn't mean I think we've turned the corner, or that our flaws have all been fixed. But the only alternative to not winning is losing. So, yeah, great win. OSU is better than us. That makes it even sweeter. We stole one.
  9. It's not so much that we lose that bothers me (although it does). It's more that we look like chit even when we win. Just a poorly coached team. Or our players aren't very good. Or both??????
  10. Totally agree with this take. Add to it that Herman will think it confirms his genius as a 60 minute coach. I can hear him now. "There was no panic on the sideline. We knew we had time" Blah, blah, blah". PS Shoulda gone for two in the second OT. You're gonna have to go for two to win anyway in the next OT cause we ain't gonna stop them from scoring. But that would have taken some balls, and well, you know, Tom.......
  11. If Herman could only convince the opposition to play a prevent defense the entire game, and let Sam be Sam, we could win out. But if Herman tries to coach this team, we're screwed.
  12. I'm white. Only have an intellectual idea what it's like growing up Black in America. I acknowledge and respect that their America might be vastly different from the one I grew up in. When this "Eyes" controversy began, I researched the origin of the song. From what I understand it never had any racial overtones. It was meant to say to UT students and alums always be on your best behavior, because you represent Texas and we are watching. I DO understand the minstrel singing in whiteface (or was it blackface) and that could offend someone. My first Texas game was the 1962 OU game (we won 9-6).I was 7. My dad told me the "Eyes" meant the Horns were watching you, and no matter how early or late in the day it was, we were going to kick your bleeping ass. It was all about sports.I get goosebumps when I flash the Hook 'em sign and sing that song. I'm sure as hell not thinking I'm a superior White man!! So, yeah, I respect a difference of opinion. But geez, we've been singing this song for a long time. You scholarship athletes knew it was the school song when you were offered a scholarship. If it bothered you so much, don't come to Texas. It's kinda hypocritical. Just my two cents.
  13. I wonder who decommits this week? I wouldn't come here.
  14. If we can't beat OU this year, it will be sad. But our last two games aren't an aberration. OU sucks, but we're not any good either. I predict a close game. And one thing I've learned about Texas this last decade is, we can always find away to lose. One play. That's all it takes to choke it away.
  15. when I see the players run onto the field, I will feel goosebumps, and wish like hell I had had the opportunity (and skill) to have played in just one of the Texas-ou games. My hatred for OU will rise in my heart, and I will want to beat the ever loving snot out of those cheaters. But yeah, otherwise, this year feels different.
  16. Only thing the line is good for is wagering. And I ain't betting on this dog show. I hope we win. Of course I do. OU sucks and all that. But what will it mean? That we're baaaack? LOL. No, it will mean that we aren't as bad--on that Saturday--as OU. It won't elevate the program; it won't restore national reputation; it won't help recruiting. We're toast, fellas. The writing is on the wall. Herman ain't fixing jack spit. He's had his chance. He's failed. We are a middle of the road team, incapable of sustaining anything remotely resembling excellence.
  17. Tom Herman talks the talk. And that's it. No walking the walk. All hat and no cattle. The perfect Mack Brown apostle. If we don't look at the Saban or Swinney coaching tree for the next coach, we're just flat out stupid. Yes, I know Urban Meyer is out there. I'm not sure he wants to coach. I hate him as a person. But this third rate football team we produce every year has gotten old. So maybe I'll swallow my integrity and get on the Meyer bandwagon. You know what, it's not just old. It's boring.
  18. You're kind of neglecting that we are a really shitty team too. I mean one of us shitty teams has to lose, right?
  19. Some of you guys judge coaches and teams based on one weekend of play. It's silly. Other than Saban and Swinney, there isn't one coach out there who doesn't blow it occasionally. It'll never happen. But we need to get out of the Big XII and get into the SEC where they play big boy football and big boy football players want to play. We get mostly second and third tier athletes to come to Austin. And that's a recipe for 9-4 seasons generally with the occasional aberration. We're Texas. And that doesn't mean what we want it to mean. It means mediocre.
  20. Who cares if Ehlinger plays in the NFL? That has nothing to do with his value to this team. He ain't the problem. Not by a long shot. We'd be dead in the water without him. Actually, I should have said dead er in the water.
  21. Simple statement. Truer words were never spoken. Sadly, since 2009, SNAFU--situation normal, all fvcked up! 11 years of this. No excuse. Laughingstock of the nation.
  22. Do you guys really think putting one second back on the clock would have mattered? If that's what you're pissed off about, Lord help you. First of all, when Ingram was stopped on the one, why on earth would you rush the next play? Leaving as little time on the clock is what a good coach would have done. But whatever. This is the same show every week. Sometimes we get lucky and pull out a win; other times we don't. We never BEAT anyone. Our mediocrity is surpassed only by our consistency at being mediocre. And these two new coordinators look a lot like the two we fired after last season. Same old, same old.
  23. Doesn't everybody? No way of knowing if we weren't mentally "up" for Tech or not. But the truth is our defense isn't good at stopping teams unless they play old school football. Utah and Georgia are good examples of that. Teams that play pass first, second and third kill us. I see it happening again vs TCU. The line is irrelevant to me, as I'm not betting. So any win is acceptable. But we can lose to anybody. Losing to TCU will suck, but I won't be surprised. That's just become the reality of Texas football the past 10 years. We're an average football team that can look really good at times, and also really bad. I'm not even surprised anymore when a receiver is wide open for a TD, or we miss 4 tackles on the same play. Or we fair catch a punt on the 5 yard line. It's who we are now.
  24. Until we get some SEC type defensive lineman, we are going to get torched by any offense with a QB who can throw it. Here we go again. Doesn't matter if its Ash, Orlando or Vince Lombardi. we need more talent on the DL.
  25. Lucky is the word that comes to my mind. And Herman is full of spit. Sam told me they left too much time on the clock so I knew we were good. What a crock. Onside kick, while well executed, took the perfect bounce and a butterfingered Tech player AND Epps being in exactly the right spot at the right time. Don't get me wrong. I give the kids big props for not giving up and making the necessary plays to win the game. That bodes well for the future. By December all that will matter is that we won. Oh, by the way. Way to save your timeouts, Mensa.
