  1. I can't blame the OP for his original post. It just looked like the same old Texas to me, too. Glad we won, though. And glad that upside down Horns Up QB of theirs has to eat his own defecation.
  2. I'm not reading every post here, but the crux of everyone's opinions seems to be that Orlando was a moron. I'm not defending him, but we lost 9 starters off last year's team and then suffered injury after injury during the season. I'm gonna cut him some slack. As for the game last night vs Utah, yes our D looked great. But Utah's offense was pitiful, unimaginative and probably their C game. One dropped pass in the flat, if caught, was probably a TD which might have changed the entire complexion of the game. Who knows? Their 4th and inches call to begin the third quarter was totally moronic. Their QB was very average. I don't see him starting for many teams in the Big XII. My real point is this was one game--we looked great in the second half against KSU too, and last year we stifled Georgia. IMO, the thinking here that we would have been a Top 5 or 10 team if Orlando wasn't the DC is misguided.
  3. No one signaled TD. And Don Maynard played at UTEP. I believe we played two QBs in that game, Jim Hudson and Marvin Krystanik. Yes, Bama claims the National Title for that year. Wow? Just like we claim the one for 1970 after losing to Notre Dame in the Cotton Bowl. Wow! By the way, Arkansas, which defeated Nebraska in the Cotton Bowl that year to finish 11-0, also claims a National Championship for that season, and were voted such by the Football Writers Association, which only the people in Arkansas paid attention to.
  4. I'd have to put the 1965 Orange Bowl on the list. Of course I'm biased. But stopping Bama cold at the 1 was sweet. Joe Willie was pissed. LOL. Funny the things one remembers. For those of you who don't know, we won 21-17. Only loss was a 14-13 defeat to Arkansas, which finished the season unbeaten. I believe Bama was ranked #1 when we beat them. Back then, the AP and UPI didn't vote after the Bowls.
  5. I'm not a fan of Beck's play calling. Orlando had a pretty good D in year one when we had more experience. I cut him some slack this season due to the youth and injuries. If I had my druthers I'd prefer more talent on the OL and DL over new coordinators. But, hey, Tom's up a creek without a paddle so he has to do something to appease the fan base. Firing assistants is business as usual for coaches on the hot seat.
  6. I'm not sure that we have as much talent as everyone assumes. Jalen Green can't cover his shadow without interfering, and he has no clue where the ball is. The OL? Do any of them ever get a push? Ingram? Geez, seems like a good kid, but he never makes anyone miss. Does our DL have any sacks? I mean, literally, any? You can blame the coaches, and I personally think our head coach sucks, but I'm not sure we have as much talent as people think. Relying on the people who evaluate high schoolers isn't really a great idea. My thinking is Herman isn't any better at evaluating potential than Mack Brown was. I didn't see one player on our team that would oust one of Baylor's starters, other than Duvernay. And by the way, he preferred Baylor until their fiasco was uncovered with Briles.
  7. He's lost the team and he's the only one who doesn't know it. He's quite a sad man, really. I can't wait to see him gone. Give him a year's supply of Double-Bubble and show him the door.
  8. Doesn't sound like he has spent any time examining his play calling, or role, in the lousy performance. I don't necessarily expect a coach to come out and commit hari kari at his press conference, but I do expect him to take some responsibility and acknowledge that he can learn from it. This is the first time I've ever seen this guy, or heard him talk. Only two coaches I've heard talk now are Beck and Herman. I don't like either one.
  9. I'd like to think I never look at anything the way aggy would. But I get where you're coming from on this. 😀
  10. Nah, No matter how you count, we wouldn't have more than a dozen national championships. Not even close. Maybe 1977. That's it.
  11. It doesn't really matter to me who is blamed for the offsides. These players shouldn't make those kinds of mistakes, but they're still kids (18-22 year olds make mistakes all the time.) The more glaring issues are the coaching errors. Leaving points on the field vs LSU and now Iowa State were killers. I'm all for big balls, and going for it, and all that macho crap in theory. But I'm a fan, not a head coach. Winning games usually comes down to doing the little things right, and making conservative decisions that ensure points. Herman leans toward being macho, thinking like a fan. These are not not intelligent decisions for a head coach. Hopefully, the guy will learn from his mistakes. But because he's so unlikeable, I won't mind watching him fail.
  12. I didn't watch. And so much of what gets posted here sounds like made up stuff trying to get a laugh. But did he really throw Duvernay under the bus? And blame the OL for bad execution on the first down run play? If that's true, that's piss-poor leadership and a great way to lose the locker room. I wouldn't want my 5-Star athlete to play for a coach like that.
  13. If we beat Baylor, it just proves they are a Paper Tiger. If we lose it is more evidence that we are a toothless program. Game doesn't mean spit. We're Texas (trying not to laugh when I say that.) Like it means something.
  14. Maybe it's time we recognize our standard is a deluded one. Four national championships in 150 years! Three Big XII titles in 20 years! Texas football has won a ton of games over the years but, really, haven't we lost more as favorites, choked away more championships than just about anybody in history? We rarely over achieve.
  15. The results speak for themselves. The fact that Herman is so unlikeable makes it easier to watch him circle the drain. I think UT football has become a clown show. It'll take awhile to change that perception. This "We're Back" crap needs to never be uttered again.
  16. Is that like not being the best team in Texas?
  17. Don't forget the Flim-Flam man's (Mack) role in that hire. Such a small person.
  18. It's a press conference. Blah, blah, blah. The proof of anything will be Saturday on the field. What he says today; what his body language is today; how many gulps of water he takes today: Irrelevant.
  19. I think there is more to it than the quality of football. Behind the scenes, I'm guessing he just didn't put forth the vibe that he was the right guy. That was my impression of Charlie Strong here also, but I wanted him to succeed so I ignored my gut. Firing a coach in the middle of the season of his second year doesn't make it look like a great situation to step into. When you think of yourself as being a top tier job, but no one else does, you end up being forced to offer a "name" coach a ten year contract at $7.5MM per year, way over market value. Not that I'm naming any names.
  20. If Meyer coaches again my money is on Notre Dame. If our kids quit after TCU took the lead, that's on them, not the coaches. Some of you never hold the players accountable for anything. Unless he plays QB.
  21. I doubt the LHN is making any money for ESPN. At least half of the "commercials" aren't paid ads, but Earl grilling hot dogs or Ricky reading poetry. Those are fillers, not ads. Maybe the network survives in some fashion, but I can't see ESPN continuing to ride that pony. I'll miss it. It's my go-to when I'm bored. Watching us beat Arkansas 15-14 in 1969.for the hundredth time still doesn't get old.
  22. I have zero idea about what assistant coaches elsewhere would be a good hire here. No idea. I don't even know the head coaches' names at Tech or KSU, or Rice or La Tech. So many others.I keep hearing this Mehringer guy on our staff is horrible, a cancer, etc but I have no idea why. But I digress. I think some of TCU's better play in the second half was their players got more confident and flat out made some plays. My theory on Ehlinger is that he thinks we have to score every time we have the ball or we will lose so he forces some throws. But, hell, I don't know.
