    Kayaking

So I recently purchased a couple of kayaks that I'll be taking around when we go camping at various state parks. Anyone recommend a good online resource or message board that makes it easier to find information about places to kayak? Specifically with reviews about the best boat ramps to go to on various lakes that are kayak friendly. Or paddling trails on rivers that have info about where to launch, etc? I'm in Plano, so looking at lakes Lavon, Ray Hubbard, Lewisville of course but also smaller city park ponds or lakes that allow kayaks would be cool too. Googling brings up all sorts of boat ramps but I don't want to be in anyone's way and don't want to fight the big boats for space when I'm trying to carry two kayaks and a bag of snacks or drinks with my daughter.
  2. Watching Hot Shots! on HBO max for the first time in decades and it still holds up. Everything Lloyd Bridges says is hilarious.
  3. Replace all of the waiting room chairs with treadmills
  4. Man, as much as my previous post was bemoaning the lows of IndyCars, today was the highs. Fantastic race overall, lots of great action. Texas back to a legit two raceable lane track produced a ton of action. Feel bad for Grosjean as he looked really solid all day, but one mistake on a super speedway will get you. Also a bit crazy how O'Ward was so dominant in the mid-race lapping all but one car to then come back to reality in the final 10 and just not able to get around Newgarden. Overall a really fun race. This is when Indy is at its best.
  5. I only now realized the Astons ended up 3rd and 4th. I was fast forwarding through the red flags and didn't even bother to see the final lap under SC. I assumed both Astons were way back after the chaos.
  6. That red flag call was some NASCAR BS. The restart was some IndyCar BS. Aston and Alpine must be furious.
  7. Don't most executives in charge of organizations with tens of thousands of the employees and budgets in the hundreds of millions earn at least that much?
  8. The next step in the plan is the rating system. I believe they are pushing through a major change in how they calculate the school letter rating. A bunch of schools that have always been rated as A will suddenly drop to B or C, even though nothing about what they were doing or how they are performing will be different. But all the public is going to see is the letter grade, they aren't going to understand that it was calculated differently, and they will just assume everything went to crap even though it's identical to the previous year which was an A.
  9. There is no gun debate. You can't debate a religious zealot with reason. That's what the gun lobby and the politically charged gun enthusiasts are. They're religious zealots. The AR-15 is their golden calf, and their altar demands a blood sacrifice, which they will gladly supply.
  10. The internet will make anything a conspiracy And of course, video of a training exercise just so happens to show the same pants with the same cuffs folded up, because that is such a common and in-style thing to do.
  11. I teach 7th grade. Years ago, any time there was a shooting, regardless of where in the country it is, the students would hear about it and kind of go through the rest of the day somewhat reserved, or maybe a quiet nervousness, thinking about what it would look like on our campus. But these days it no longer even registers. Its just "another one, that sucks" and on with the routine. Sooner than later it will just be another meme.
  12. Back during Covid lockdown most of the younger drivers had big sim rigs built and they streamed virtual races on Twitch, many times while talking in discord with the other drivers. That's one of the reasons some of the drummed up drama in Drive to Survive was kind of stupid, lots of those guys are friends and gamed together throughout lockdown
  13. Also, serving during the race can change track position and could mean position changes that otherwise may not have happened. Some tracks are so hard to overtake the penalty could be the difference. If simply added to the end the offending car could build up a gap to nullify the penalty.
  14. Would be nice but that's a losing battle politically. Just recently a state park had to close because the park only leased the land and their lease ran out. Gonna be developed into luxury homes behind a gated community. Fairfield Lake SP.
  15. Eh, I have lost confidence in all Blizzard products.
  16. We are unlikely going to leave the state park. Several hikes planned, cooking some good food, etc.
  17. True, but they all know it's there. But time again the go into the corner thinking "well maybe THIS time there's room" Only there never is.
  18. Man I so want to really like this series. I like the cars, I like a lot of the personalities, I like the mix of street, road, and ovals. And of course the Indy500 is one of the best events in the world. But it's sometimes brutal getting through a race because of all the bone headed crashes. A good percentage of the drivers are world class drivers, but an equally big percentage should not be in a race car. A third of the field crashed out here. There is almost always a lap 1 incident in Indycars. The quality of bottom third of the drivers needs to seriously improve and the number of stupid crashes needs to go way down or Indy will never be a series that really makes it to level it should be.
  19. For spring break we are trying out Palo Duro Canyon for the first time.
  20. These 70 to 80 mph wind gusts are nuts
  21. My basketball goal blew over. It's crazy windy.
  22. I just wish I didn't have to wait for the broadcast to be completely over before I can start watching on the ESPN app. More coverage makes it harder to be spoiler free for those of us that don't watch live
  23. Most of the really good F1 drivers and team principals are assholes. It's a tough sport to be a nice guy in.
  24. Evil Dead 2 was kind of a remake more than a sequel, but yes.
