  1. Got the 1st shot of Pfizer this morning. I’ve had a dull headache since then and have felt a tad lethargic. I’m afraid the 2nd shot is gonna kick me on my ass for a day or so.
  2. Regardless of whether that’s a foul or not, we shouldn’t have even been in that position for a foul to make difference like that against ACU.
  3. Texas Advance Commitment is racist? Colt McCoy is a hypocrite? Tanner should ask the university for a tuition refund because the university clearly failed to educate him in how to use critical thinking skills among other things.
  4. There was also The Daily Texan story in October about a survey of band members in which quite a few said they didn't want to play the song. But I believe that was after the OU game.
  5. Not sure what this means exactly but it sounds interesting:
  6. I once had someone ask me if TEXAS Southern University was in Louisiana
  7. I shit you not, I had someone try to tell me the other day that wearing masks is dangerous for people with preexisting medical conditions. I’m gonna go out on a limb and say the risk of not wearing a mask and contracting Covid is much more dangerous for people with preexisting conditions than simply wearing a mask in public.
  8. UT to continue requiring masks on campus I haven’t been able to keep up with all the moving pieces but are most school districts doing the same or is that still TBD? I know all the Karens on my community FB are up in arms about how schools should drop mask requirements because it inhibits their child’s rights to “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
  9. I don’t know that it’s too late either, but it’s certainly become increasingly difficult by the university’s inexplicable lack leadership on the issue over the last 6 months. I think a major issue now is that probably a majority of the student body is now convinced it’s inherently racist and now incoming students will think so too because that’s the prevailing notion on social media, accurate or not. The challenge in marketing now is a lot of students frankly don’t care about athletics so their opinions won’t be swayed by Legendary Longhorn athletes and they’ll simply dismiss other attempts. Their minds are made up and it’s hard to reverse course. Not saying it can’t be done but it’s definitely a steep uphill climb.
  10. That’s why I believe the biggest issue here and the main reason we are here in the first place is because not only did the University fail to control the narrative, they hardly even tried. They may very well try to reclaim it now after the coming report but after 6+ months, they allowed the controversy to fester and metastasis to the point that it’ll be hard to reverse course at this point.
  11. Good to know. I wonder if that’s common across all CVS’s that administer the vaccine? My dad has cancer so is 1B but has been struggling to find the right time to find available appointments here.
  12. Unfortunately, at this point I’m inclined to agree with DD that the headwinds are too strong and it’ll eventually be removed. It’s a no-win situation because people who want to keep it will be upset but then conversely if the song is kept, the crowd that’s convinced it’s racist will say the school is purporting racist traditions (whether or not that’s actually true). The emails are a bad look and while not totally accurate, the perception in the media and on social media is that the song is completely racist in both its history and lyrical content and that the university is supporting those ideologies. That’s a lot to overcome at this point in 2021. Frankly the admin failed by allowing this to fester for so long and not working immediately to find ways to reclaim it through something like a PR Campaign with famous alumni discussing what The Eyes means to them or something along those lines.
  13. When is the primary for the GOP nomination for Governor? This seems like nothing more than a political move to shore up support from his base and distract from the grid disaster.
  14. Mainly the origins but I’ve heard a lot of people (particular current students and recent grads) claim that the line “you cannot get away” refers directly to runaway slaves and that the “Eyes” are slave masters or something like that. Frankly it seems to me that its lyrical interpretation has somewhat devolved into a game of telephone where one person creates an interpretation that is suddenly accepted as “fact.” Whether accurate or not, people on social media eat that up and suddenly it’s the truth.
  15. Yeah, when I helped my mom sign up at CVS I was amazed at how broad the language for 1B is here. It’s vague enough that a lot of people could just sign up even if they don’t truly fit into that group.
  16. I was at a wedding a while back and they asked everyone to get in a circle, so I got in the circle. The DJ started saying something about how the bride and groom wanted everyone to take part in one of their favorite traditions and the aggy war hymn started playing. I couldn’t jump out of that circle fast enough.
  17. IMO the mandates shouldn’t have been relaxed until we can move beyond 1A and 1B for vaccinations. My dad has cancer and still can’t even find an appointment for a shot. Wait until those who are at the highest risk of severe infection are more widely vaccinated before lifting all the restrictions. Yeesh.
  18. Thanks for you input. I myself am a recent grad. I would like to keep it as well but from what I can gather from social media is that those who want to keep it (at least current students and recent grads) are probably in the minority. Or at least those who oppose it are certainly in a vocal majority. A lot of students aren’t engaged in athletics (which is a whole different issue), and I think that contributes to the opposition as they have no connection to the song if they don’t go to sporting events and never have the experience of singing The Eyes with 100,000 other Longhorns at a football game.
  19. Right, not everyone will be happy regardless of what happens so we’re frankly stuck between a rock and a hard place.
