  1. Had a couple nice swims this morning and afternoon broken up by the athlete briefing. Ton of first timers here in Florida. 5% chance it doesn’t rain tomorrow because it’s Florida. In the RV now watching minions with the kiddo and drinking water. Transition bag ready. Bike dropped off. Transition opens at 4:30, gun goes off at 5:40. I’ll self seed with the 45-50 minute folks and probably get in the water at 6:20 or so.
  2. My son went with me to registration and they made him wait outside the check in area. I told him to wait for me and 2 minutes later, a volunteer came up to me and asked if he was my son and pointed. I said yes and she motioned for him to come to the t-shirt table and gave him an Ironman race t-shirt. The look on his face was priceless. I missed out on the shirts in Waco last year that had the names of the participants on it so I grabbed one of those. Fucking $60. Absolutely ridiculous. We got all checked in, RV parked, checked out the beach and went and ate. I’m going to go for a swim tomorrow after bike drop off then putting my feet up the rest of the day.
  3. Thanks! Target pace on the bike is close to 20/21 mph. Running pace would be great to be about 8:45 per mile average. Im wanting to be done with the swim in 45 minutes which I think is doable. I’m really hoping to get a sub 6 hour total. That’s my main goal. Secondary goal is 6:15 which is still faster than Waco. If I don’t get sub 6, I’m 100% doing Waco again in October. I’m probably already doing it but haven’t signed up for it yet. No, I didn’t do the full event brick in training. I did around 58 miles on the bike and a 9 mile run twice. One was pretty tough and the other was great. I did do a lot more brick work this training cycle than last time. Hoping it pays off.
  4. Done. The bread is in the oven. Packing the RV tonight and heading out tomorrow. Spending the night in Monroe, LA or Jackson, MS tomorrow night. PCB on Thursday. Chill and ocean swim Friday. Race Saturday.
  5. Tried out my race day shoes and laces today. I was supposed to keep it chill. I couldn’t not go.
  6. Ran into someone at the pool today training for Ironman Chattanooga. Good swim this AM. 2k meters.
  7. We’re officially moving in to the new house Monday. Leaving for Florida Wednesday. I’m swimming this morning and riding tomorrow. I’ll do a 7 or 8 mile run Sunday.
  8. Did a nice little ride over the weekend. Felt like John Denver…country roads…take me home… Average speed is a bit off due to having to turn around multiple times, stop for cars, etc.
  9. First year in the PPA McCombs program, intermediate accounting professor told us to have a conversation with our families and spouses and tell them we wouldn’t be seeing much of them that semester.
  10. I’m closing on my house purchase Friday and leaving 10 days later to go to Florida. My bike has been set up in my in-laws spare storage room for the past 3 months. I’m so excited to have my own house I could scream.
  11. Waco - beginning part of October.
  12. I’ve been trying to go running more on the weekends when the sun is up. It’s humid as hell outside. Ran 12 yesterday, going to swim later. Taking my bike off the trainer today as well to get some road rides in.
  13. 7 years ago I was 6’2”, 315. I’m now 185 or 190 and run marathons. No surgery. Being fat is a choice.
  14. Parents checked in at Rotary house yesterday for my dad’s first round of immunotherapy therapy today. Once every three weeks he will head down to get a dose of Keytruda(sp?). Docs are hoping it will decrease the size of the tumor on his tailbone to the point where they can radiate that bitch away.
  15. 12 mile run today then ate my bodyweight in crawfish. Rest day tomorrow.
  16. 3 hour ride + 9 mile run today. Went 59 miles on bike and paced an 8:24 run. It’s hot.
  17. Biggest training weekend of my schedule. Long brick tomorrow, practicing fueling and a long run Sunday.
  18. Right there with you. Just good enough to finish a swim.
  19. 1,700 to 1,900 or so.
  20. I was in Houston this weekend as we’re selling our house and closing on the sale on the 15th. We were packing up the rest of our stuff and I headed back to Tyler today. Heading back up 45 and I’m seeing a ton of tri bikes on the back of peoples cars. 70.3 Galveston was this weekend and they canceled the swim due to currents in Galveston Bay. I ran this morning and the wind was blowing 20+ from the north. That bike must have been a bitch. Got 12 miles in this morning and an hour spin before we left yesterday. One last hard week and I’m ready.
  21. Including what you just paid, that’s pushing it 😂
  22. Just buy one and ask for forgiveness later. My exact words were “cheaper than a drug habit”. In actuality, she told me to go buy one for Father’s Day.
  23. This right here. I learned a lot from just going out there and making a dumbass out of myself. Don’t overthink it and listen to your body. My first one was a 50 minute swim, 3 hour bike, and a 2:28 run. Transitions sucked as they were so far from the water exit and bike entrance. I think I was 6:31 or something total. I’m HOPING for a sub 6 this go round in 5 weeks. I can definitely take time off that run and that bike. I’ve really been working on the bike for this race and I’m thinking I can shoot for at least a 2:45. I’d also really like a sub 2 half marathon. For the first one, I didn’t train properly. I ran too much and didn’t do enough brick workouts. I feel a lot more confident this time. Enjoy the first one. There’s absolutely nothing like putting in the work and seeing that red carpet. My FIL caught probably the best video of me raving I’ve ever seen when I crossed the finish line and he’s seen me finish two marathons and multiple half’s.
  24. How much is Elko making? Would they really pay more for a basketball coach than a football coach? It’s aggy, so probably. Edit: never mind, it’s 7 mil per year for elko. Still, that’s fucking sad and hilarious at the same time.
  25. If you don’t mind me asking, what kind of coach did you sign up with? In person or virtual? What all will he do for you?
