I literally said in my post that BYU's OOC schedule is fair criticism. I reject the premise that the Big 12 is a weak conference. The upper echelon can compete with anyone. ASU was this close to beating UT in the playoff last year, a team we should have beat last year on the road and it came down to the last play of the game. SEC and Big 10 have their dregs, too.
I would be happy if we scheduled a blue blood OOC. But will a blue blood be willing to schedule us going forward? We are capable of beating a blue blood, so there is more risk than reward for them, so I think blue bloods will avoid us OOC. I think we will get more like UT vs OSU (one tough OOC matchup) and then the rest will be OOC body bag games. You get credit for playing a tough OOC and then pad the schedule with easies. Not a direct criticism of UT, just what I expect to see going forward generally.
I also think the incentive for someone like BYU is to schedule easier OOC to rack up the wins in order to make the playoff, knowing that the only way in to the playoff outside of the conference championship is no more than 1 loss.
I do think FBS should not be playing FCS, unless there is a preseason type situation.
