  1. Careful now. You may bring about a curse if you don't follow through.
  2. Our coaching pool is limited, and you shouldn't get rid of someone if you don't have a short list of realistic and better replacements identified, so Sitake may get extra rope just for that reason.
  3. Oh there are some that want Sitake gone, like your friend, but still a minority. Much bigger group that is not far from that POV, though. One more losing season and the seat will be very hot for Sitake.
  4. Not quite there, yet, but patience is wearing very thin. Another losing season and then yes. Especially when we look at what our new hire mens bball coach has done in a few short months to level up, the mediocrity of the football program lately looks even worse.
  5. Not saying the SEC isn't the featured conference on ESPN, but most of the Big 12 games last weekend were against garbage opponents. Not surprising that most Big 12 games didn't get better exposure.
  6. They think it confers academic prestige on Utah to be in the same conference as Stanford, etc. Part of that desire is that they also want to be perceived academically superior to BYU, even though incoming BYU freshman have higher average HS GPAs and test scores, most people that apply to both schools will choose BYU over Utah, and when you compare the same graduate programs (law, business, others) BYU ranks higher.
  7. Not sure how much it's appreciated how pissed they are that they had to follow after BYU to join a new conference, let alone no longer being able to enjoy the halo effect of being linked with Stanford, UCLA, and Cal.
  8. Why you reading/posting in this thread if you no like?
  9. It's fair to wait and see whether Young succeeds at the college level. He's known for player development. Hoping he can recruit well on a pitch of I know what it takes in the NBA and I can help you get there. If he fills out his staff with good recruiters it can be a nice combo. We'll see -- it's fair. This does signal a major shift in BYU's approach though. We've always been do more with less and paying below market value. Pope was estimated to be in the 1.5-2 mil salary range, which is near the bottom of the Big 12. We've never hired a coach like this before and never paid this kind of money. It's always been a gamble on a younger up and comer from a smaller school. Pulling someone from the NBA is a big deal for us. It's a sign that we really want to compete at the highest level and different than the mindset we've had before. Danny Ainge and Ryan Smith played big roles in helping to pull this off. @'stache, I'm just having a little fun with it. You don't have to be the fun police. 🚓
  10. Young has been on the short list for NBA head coaching positions (Brooklyn, Charlotte, Utah) and there are reports he was offered Brooklyn but turned it down (didn't think it was a good fit/situation). He's the highest paid assistant in the NBA. Players, like Durant and Booker, love him and were supportive of him becoming head coach in Phoenix. Pope in 9 years at Utah Valley University and BYU has made it to the tournament twice and had zero wins (lost to lower seeds). He never won the WCC conference or tournament while at BYU. Young has a better resume than Pope. Nobody thinks Young is Wooden, but this is a home run hire for BYU and beyond what we have been able to hire in the past, hence the surprise and celebration. You have to be a Kentucky fan to not think it's a funny that BYU got a better coach than Kentucky.
  11. I mean TCU was not wrong to worry about a "sea of blue" happening at a DFW venue lol
  12. Could end up being a tough 2nd game for UConn
  13. I would imagine that would probably be his last stop before retirement
  14. I don't like that if we can win 2 games we might have to play you again.
