Sunshine State Recruiting: Three updates
Venice, Fla. - OnTexasFootball continues to be on the road in the state of Florida seeing top commitments and targets of the Longhorns. To get your Wednesday started, OTF updates the recruitments of three targets in the 2025 cycle.
New LB offer and OTF is here
OnTexasFootball will be at Seffner (Fla.) Armwood High this afternoon to see new Texas linebacker offer Kellen Wiley.
Wiley, 6-3.5 and 220-pounds, was offered by the Longhorns Tuesday. Per Armwood High head coach Eric Davis, Wiley is scheduled to officially visit Texas November 9 for the game vs. Florida.
Wiley is one of the top senior risers in the country in the 2025 cycle. He's picked up senior season offers from Texas, Alabama, Miami, Georgia Tech and Louisville. He made an official visit to Louisville October 4. The Miami Hurricanes are considered the favorite headed into November.
Wiley recorded 82 tackles, two sacks and an interception as a junior at Hillsborough High. He also posted a personal best 43'7" triple jump in the spring.
Javion Hilson, EDGE, Cocoa (Fla.) High
It will be a Texas vs. Texas A&M decision for the 4-star++ EDGE barring the unforseen. Hilson has been considered a heavy lean to Texas since de-committing from Florida State earlier in the season. He attended the Texas vs. Georgia game with fellow Sunshine State 4-star++ prospect, friend and Texas commit Myron Charles. Hilson followed up by attending the Texas A&M vs. LSU game last weekend as an official visitor.
Here is my take on Hilson's recruitment:
He's not going to make an emotional decision ... ie a game is a deciding factor.
Hilson will absolutely go to the school he envisions himself at in terms of developing to maximize his ability as a player. That could be Texas watching Barryn Sorrell and Colin Simmons, along with the conversations with Kenny Baker and Pete Kwiatkowski. Or it could be Texas A&M if he sees himself closest to Nic Scourton. Both options present terrific NIL opportunities. This will be about football, and maximization.
Myron Charles locked in with Texas
My key takeaway from being at Port Charlotte (Fla.) High Tuesday for practice is OTF 4-star++ defensive line commit Myron Charles is solid with Texas. Can thing change? Maybe, but Charles passed on a game invite from Miami last weekend. And Miami is trying very hard to flip him. Florida and Florida State remain in contact. LSU and Texas A&M are trying hard too. But with 35 days until December 4, the Longhorns are in a very solid position.
Charles and Kenny Baker have developed a very strong bond. And Charles and fellow 4-star++ DL commit Josiah Sharma (Folsom, Calif./High) have become close and see themselves as the future Murphy/Sweat combo.
