  11. Gerry Hamilton Five-star visitor headed to Austin this weekend Five-star linebacker and current USC pledge Xavier Griffin (Gainesville, Ga./High) is scheduled to make an unofficial visit this weekend per a close to the recruitment. Texas linebacker coach Johnny Nansen and area recruiting Kenny Baker made a stop at Gainesville High in January, and have been in steady communication since. This will be the 6-foot-3.5, 215-pounders first visit to Texas this weekend. The plan for the Texas staff is to then secure a June official visit. Griffin has one OV locked in on the books currently, USC June 20. https://247sports.com/player/xavier-griffin-46142592/ Gerry Hamilton A look at cornerback recruiting The Texas Longhorns are casting a national net at cornerback recruiting, with two in-state prospects being two of the best in the country. Mark Orphey is building solid relationships currently, and will be hosting a number of out of state targets for the first time starting this weekend and going through the last weekend in April. OnTexasFootball takes a look at the current cornerback prospects on the board for Texas, with the understanding the spring evaluation period could bring a new name or two to the mix. Jalen Lott, CB/ATH, Frisco (Texas) Panther Creek OnTexasFootball likes where this recruitment will eventually head for the Longhorns. Oregon is the biggest threat to Texas, but has to overcome serious Texas ties, and a meeting with the Texas staff after the Texas Relays that was positive. OV's: LSU May 30-June 2, Ohio State June 6-8, Texas June 13-15, Oregon June 20-22 Jermaine Bishop Jr., CB/ATH, Willis (Texas) High This is a prospect Texas just wants to be in the program, and then decide where he plays long term - cornerback or receiver. And Texas leads. OV's: USC June 6-8, Houston June 13-15, Texas June 20-22 Samari Matthews, CB, Cornelius (N.C.) Hough The 4-star+ Tar Heel State cornerback is making his first visit to Texas this weekend. South Carolina and Clemson are the teams to beat headed into the weekend, and June official visits. OV's: Clemson May 30-June 2, Florida State June 6-8, Texas June 13-15, South Carolina June 20-22 Justice Fitzpatrick, CB, Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas The younger brother of Minkah Fitzpatrick will make his first visit to Texas later in April. Georgia is considered the favorite headed into the official visit process. OV's: Georgia May 30-June 2, Miami June 6-8, Texas June 13-15, maybe Ohio State June 20-22 Camren Hamiel, CB, Goodyear (Az.) Desert Edge The OTF 4-star+ cornerback is making his first visit to Texas lat4er in April. Texas is one of several schools in the hunt for June OV's. Hamiel is not setting up OV's until he makes the round of unofficial visits, to ensure potential fits. Brody Jennings, CB, Jacksonville (Fla.) Sandalwood - *Michigan commit Jennings has been in constant contact with Texas since Mark Orphey offered in March. Jennings and family are scheduled to be in Austin the last weekend in April. A June OV is possible after that, but will have to move the schedule around. OV's: Auburn May 16-18, Alabama May 30-June 2, FloridaJune 6-8, Georgia June 13-15, Michigan June 20-22 Havon Finney, CB, Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon Texas on the outside looking in here. If he doesn't get on campus this month, the Longhorns are out for the time being. OV's: Ohio State June 13-15, USC June 17-18, LSU June 20-22 Hayward Howard Jr., CB, New Orleans (La.) Edna Karr LSU entered the chat earlier in the week with an offer. The 6-foot-2, 170-pounder is scheduled to be in Austin this weekend. Texas, LSU, Florida, Auburn and Florida State are vying for June OV's. Miami already has a date set for June 13-15. OV's: Miami June 13-15 Jordan Thomas, CB, Oradell (N.J.) Bergen Catholic Set to announce a decision in May. Has been on campus before, and scheduled to be again April 17-18. Watching Notre Dame the most headed into last half of April visits. Yaheim Riley, N/DB, Austin (Texas) Anderson - *Houston commit Texas offered in March, and Houston has their hands full to beat out Texas as long as the Longhorns keep pushing. The 5-foot-11, 180-pounder is a nickel offer by Texas.
  12. CJ Vogel QB Arch Manning and RB Tre Wisner Spoke With Media Thursday AM Texas QB Arch Manning and RB Quintrevion Wisner were the first Longhorns of the 2025 Spring Practice season to speak with members of the local media on Thursday AM after practice No. 8. A few main themes are forming thus far through spring ball. Competition in practice, wide receiver room standing out and which of the newcomers are really beginning to stand out. Some highlights from this morning. *** Competitiveness in Practice Steve Sarkisian mentioned this on Monday, and it really struck a chord with me. There is a different level of competitiveness in the spring of 2025 and it is headlined by Arch Manning. It has been a few years since the practices at Denius were filled with jawwing and chirping from one side of the ball to the other, but that is where things stand currently. Arch Manning: "I think that is just the competition on this team. Obviously, Colin (Simmons) and Ant (Hill Jr.) are good players. It is kind of fun in practice to talk a little crap to them, same with (Michael) Taaffe. It makes practice more fun." Tre Wisner: "Something I have seen from our first live practice, there was a lot of yapping back and forth from the defense and offense. Those are the types of things you need at practice because it shows the competitiveness between players and we love that." *** Wide Receiver Room Texas is young, but talented at the WR room. I don't need to rundown the room again, but there have been plenty of opportunities for new faces to earn their keep this spring including Arch Manning: "Good. I live with Parker (Livingstone). And for a bunch of those guys, when you are a backup, you spend a lot of time together in practice getting those reps. It is cool now that we are all running with the ones. Tre Wisner: "(Parker Livingstone) is a baller! White Chocolate!" **** Newcomers Standing Out 22 early enrollees plus some new faces from the portal litter the practice fields currently in Austin. A look at which guys are standing out to the two backfield players for the Horns. Arch Manning: "It has been good getting these young guys up to speed. I have been really impressed with Parker and Daylan McCutcheon has been really good and is coming along well. He is getting the hang of things." Tre Wisner: "I am definitely going to have to say – from an offensive standpoint, Nick (Brooks) the O-Lineman. Kaliq Lockett looks good at receiver and James Simon, definitely. (Simon) is just very smooth. I like the way he uses his eyes and his feet are nice. He know how to move well in tight spaces and that's something you have to have to play running back at The University of Texas." *** OL Room The faces on the offensive line are familiar, but new to the starting rotation for the most part in 2025. Aside from DJ Campbell, the OL group is still fresh when it comes to play with one another. Arch Manning: Spoke very highly of Trevor Goosby as his blindside protector, also called him a heck of an athlete and basketball player Tre Wisner: "Definitely I would say Neto (Umeozulu) and (Brandon) Baker. For those two to not get as many snaps last year as some of the other guys they have definitely come into the spring with a chip on their shoulder. They have definitely showed the most improvement."
  13. Disappearing for most of 2 out of 3 games isn't playing great. now the word "terrible" is probably a stretch but he was bad in stretches of those two games. Either way those scouts/draft honks aren't entirely wrong on their analysis.
  14. Quinn nearly costing us the Arizona St game isn't being contrarian, that is objectively a fact. We all watched the games, we know he disappeared vs Arizona St, we know he didn't do much vs Ohio St outside of 2 drives. Those are objectively true. He didn't play some herculean games in the playoffs. I wouldn't say he played bad but he didn't play great either which is the story of his career inconsistency and disappearing at times which is why he's projected mid rounds and not near the top of the draft.
  15. Clemson he played a good game and his interception was due to the ball going through receivers hands but Klub did outplay him. Arizona State he almost cost us the game with the dumbest fucking duck throw of all time, but he made up for it in OT. He started off hot in the 1st quarter then basically didn't do much until a drive in second half then disappeared again until OT. I'd argue that he passed better than Leavitt but overall did not play as well considering Leavitt's ability to extend plays and move chains. Ohio St drives look like this: 7 plays 39 yards, punt 6 plays 27 yards, punt 4 plays -11 yards(10 yard sack and fumbled but we recovered), punt 5 plays 15 yards, punt 5 plays 16 yards, punt 7 plays 59 yards, TD(18 yard pass to Blue) 2 plays 23 yards, halftime 4 plays 13 yards, punt 12 plays 67 yards, TD(26 yard pass to Blue) 3 plays 5 yards, punt 10 plays 58 yards, Fumble returned for touchdown 3 plays 6 yards, interception.
