  1. Staghorn Plantation, outside Durham. Very interesting place -- in the late stages of the slavery economy, the plantation owners build dormitory style housing for their slaves in hopes of appearing more humane. In one sense, it worked great: productivity soared. In another, though, it failed miserably. No one bought the "kinder, gentler" slavery malarkey.
  2. To be fair, that's probably because most of it is made in China.
  3. I really don't think Bama needs any sort of bulletin board material to stomp a mudhole in aggy. Not even sure they need to play their first stringers. But, whatever. Off-season aggy is start-of-the-rollercoaster aggy.
  4. I strongly suspect Freedom Roast will fare just about as well as Freedom Fries did.
  5. Pretty sure one of my neighbors was in cahoots with some of the NC law enforcement officers who have been arrested and relieved of their duties. My biggest reason for thinking so is that his time on his backyard gun range has been reduced by more than 95% since last fall. Hardly ever shoots at all, and when he does, it sounds more like he's scaring off coyotes than it does that he's hammering the tin cans like he used to do. I live at the corner of hippie-dippy-land and Trump central, so I get to witness on a daily basis the relative energy of the two camps. And Trumpland is pretty lethargic at the moment. None of last Fall's and the first week of January's energy. None at all. It is a reason for cautious optimism. I would emphasize the caution, though, as there is nothing scientific about it, and one should never turn one's back on an armed fascist.
  6. If you are from Coleman or Santa Ana, San Angelo is Nirvana. If you are from civilization, um... it's better than Abilene?
  7. I couldn't see, but I bet there was aggy swag on those trucks.
  8. Phlegm may not make much more sense than the Dotard, but he is definitely more grammatical in presentation.
  9. He's in Florida. How hard would it be for him to get Adderall? I mean, for cryin' out loud, it's practically in vending machines down there.
  10. Left and right don't actually even mean anything any more. You are either sucking the wee orange peen, or you are a communist.
  11. For the same reason most of them can't see their own toes. It's a lifestyle.
  12. If it comes with two solid hours of nobody bothering me, I'm completely fine with a father's day Swanson's TV dinner.
  13. Can somebody please explain to me how this sick fuck is still walking free?
  14. 72 virgins and one of Elon Musk's satellite dishes. Duh.
  15. Obviously what he's saying is stupid, but I'm trying to piece together what kind of a point he thinks he's making. It's just word salad, though. The concepts don't go together in any sort of logical way.
  16. All I know is, we're never gonna hear the end of it if our kids start learning that the Abrahamic religions are all rip-offs of the Epic of Gilgamesh.
  17. I've never been curious enough about CRT to even look before, so I took a gander at Wiki: The footnote is for Ansell, Amy (2008). "Critical Race Theory". In Schaefer, Richard T. (ed.). Encyclopedia of Race, Ethnicity, and Society. Sage. pp. 344–346. ISBN 978-1412926942. Interesting. So, "Liberal" ideas are the ones being challenged. Granted, that's probably referring to the academic definition of "Liberal" rather than the one most political hacks are used to, but still. Hard to see, at first glance, what there is to get one's knickers in a knot over. My guess is it's as simple as "black folk are talking about it; it must be bad."
  18. The National Review had it right: Republicans are cowards. I find conservative ideology repugnant, but it is nevertheless possible to be an honest conservative; it is not possible right now to be an honest Republican. It's that simple, and Cheney is finding that out. Romney and Cheney will both, more than likely, make a big show of leaving the party some time in the next couple of months, and people will think it's a big deal. I suppose it will be, but not because anything positive is going to come out of it. It's just one more signpost on the slug-slime slathered road to perdition.
  19. cinco-de-mayo.mp4
  20. I'm down with it.
  21. The Triangle is great, and I would rather live here than in Boone, but there are very few college towns in America that are even in the same conversation as Boone as a "college town". Hell, everyone in the Triangle vacations in Boone, for precisely that reason.
  22. He's more into Disney animation bro I didn't know Cory Chase did voice acting, too. Interesting.
