  1. Totally OT....Visited my good friends uncle's farm in Norway. Took us on a 3 hour tour of the property. Had bottles of Aquavit (water of life) stashed everywhere! Hay stacks, watering troughs, tool sheds, everywhere. We were waxed by the time we got back to the house. That stuff dehydrates you like no other booze.
  2. The road is already clogged by cars... a motorhome is not going to slow it down anymore than it already is. On memorial day weekend I was amazed at the amount of backpackers staging on Hwy 1. PCH north from San Luis Obispo to Monterey. Hwy. Hwy 4 (through Angels Camp & Murphys)over Ebbets pass to the eastern Sierra, then south on 395 to the June Lake loop. 1st come, 1st served campgrounds on the waterfront @ Gull Lake. Convict Lake, beautiful with a great restaurant. Only people that go to Death Valley in July are the crazy Germans and French. Yosemite is pretty packed, but most tourists are late risers. Worth driving west up Tioga pass (120) to the park gate for your mountains, if it's plowed by then . Bodie ghost town. Mcarthur Burney falls state park up by Shasta. Free legal camping on any BLM land, and there is a lot of it in the eastern Sierras. Pm me with any questions.
  3. Well, what are your interests? California has the most varied geographical features in the country...I've lived here my whole (long) life, and am still amazed at the things I find. Beach, desert, high mountain ranges, podunk towns off of the beaten path?
  4. The Metro trains are a decent way to get around, and the routes are fairly extensive. No parking issues, either.
  5. Another vote for the oberland. We usually stay in Grindelwald, but Wengen will be next. Fly into Munich, which will save some time and money compared to Frankfurt. I found Garmisch has grown too big, so we went uphill to Mittenwald, which was nice. Anyplace in the Alps will have plenty of trails. To make it easy on the kids, ride the gondolas up and hike down. You might consider Austria, Innsbruck to be exact. Winter Olympic town, with a great oldtown. Short ride (hourish) from the Munich Haptbahnhof. Austria is definitely cheaper than Switzerland, and easier accessed, but the Tyrolian Alps aren't as impressive. Hard to go wrong heading south out of Munich. Coastal towns of Croatia are a zoo, due to some TV show....
  6. Original Hitching Post in Casmalia is my preference over Post II. '50's steakhouse on the northern border of Vandenberg. NASA rocket man hangout.
  7. Was returning from my grandfathers funeral with my aunt and her road buddy Alma in aunties 429 T-Bird south on 395 back when it was a 2 lane. Laying down in the rear seat, half asleep, when aunt Dorothy punches the big block and swings out to pass.... Alma - "Dorothy, you do see that oncoming car, don't you?" Aunt Dorothy - "Yes, I do....but it's easier for them to pull off of the road then for me to get back in my lane with all those cars there." Don't recall sleeping for the rest of the trip.
  8. Last year I walked into a podunk meat market/liquor store in western Nevada, and bought 2 EHT 4G for $70 apiece. I was so blown away I didn't even ask about the remaining four bottles...
  9. Given the shit that spews out of his mouth, I find it really hard to believe that he doesn't drink.....alot.
  10. Well, since this thing is veering off topic a bit, I'll further the detour... My boy scout troop (384) was mostly older boys, with a very high percentage of Eagle scouts. I was one of the youngest. Scoutmaster was a great dude, worked for the forest service, and took us on great backpacking trips. Every year, the scout-o-rama was held at brookside park, which is the park that surrounds the Rose Bowl. For the last couple of years, we were edged out of the overall high score for the event by an all asian troop , troop #3, from Gardena. The older boys had figured out a way to maybe swing the final tally in our favor. They accomplished this by getting troop #3 absolutely smashed the night before the final day's competition. We won. Once word got out on our doings, they reclaimed the trophy. Then they disbanded our troop. No More 384.
  11. Mine too....but it will be a small price to pay.
  12. Pissing? I'm taking a dump....
  13. This makes no sense to me....how will I be able to shit on their graves?
  14. I don't think Dak had any issues with being inaccurate....
  15. Help me out here....did the village idiot attempt to get his wall when the house was republican, or is this just a massive smokescreen recently concocted due to the Mueller focus?
  16. SC doesn't have this kind of foresight...they were wandering blind down the hallway, and KK's doorknob was the first that they found. As much as the trojan faithful badmouth Hayden, he was much more functional than Lynn Swann.
  17. Monterey Fish House. Need res. 17 mile drive is even better by bicycle. Start at PG gate.
  18. Is doomsday Brisket getting his sense of humor back?
  19. Saw some bottles out here @ mission. Before this bourbon craze took off, Costco had a 3-pak of Bookers, Bakers and Basil Hayden for $69....
  20. Interesting that Total no longer has any Old Forester products on the shelf in LA now. Recently had everything but BB.
  21. Not as good as one would think, here in SoCal....many liquor stores do large mark-ups on the premiums. ECBP is $100, if you can find it. ER is all over the place, though. Lucked out and bought 2 bottles of EHT four grain at a meat market in western Nevada for $70 each. They had 4 more bottles they would sell me, but I didn't have anymore cash, credit card was back at the cabin.
  22. Anyone?
  23. What's the word on the Angels Envy cask strength?
  24. Trying to be a good neighbor...he's a broker who has been gifting me good tips. and he's a sc fan so it was nice to watch him whimper. Plus, total wine has had cases of the Chew in the front room, so I've got a shelf full. The good stuff is going to the cabin for Thanksgiving with my BIL, who is a really good guy, and respects the labels.
  25. Took a bottle of Bookers "Kentucky Chew' to my neighbors house to watch the UCLA/SC game. He filled a glass 1/2 full of ice, then 1/2 full of bookers. Then he reached into the frig and topped it off with coke...
