Don't buy Mobil 1 5w30 though if you have a turbocharged or otherwise hot/high-pressure car, though. It's fine in a naturally-aspirated engine, but in the modern style turbo 4-cyl, for some odd reason that particular formulation of it is crap.

    Link?

Grab the Bookers in that pic.  Looks like it's Kentucky Chew.  Great bottle.

Local Total Wine got cases of that in....haven't opened one yet.

Those yellow labels in the middle are what excites me...God awfully expensive out here.

5w30 is the oil that Ford recommends  for the turbocharged F150 Ecoboost.

  4. Damn, the edit function doesn't last long here...

Acme story - Wife and I are walking past the restaurant, and I mention that we'd be eating there later in the week. A guy in the restaurant starts choking on a 'ster, another guy runs up behind him and performs the heimlich, and the oyster splats the window right in front  of us...

Wife - "Uhhhh, we're not eating here!"

  5. Rent the Porsche.

Now I know you said that you're going to Carmel, but....

At Rennsport Reunion, we ate at the Monterey Fish House. For all three nights. Place was spectacular, in a down to earth way. You need reservations. You need to get the oak grilled oysters. Everything is good.

Sitting on the roof of the Porsche hospitality building at rennsport, the guy next to me was in a really good mood - he is getting one of the new 935 Moby Dicks.

I'd be in a good mood, too.

  6. Car-pro USA sucks...had a very bad experience with one of his dealers, who was a flat out liar. Let him know about it, and his response was "they are independent contractors, and we can't do anything about it."

Believe it or not , Black Friday is a good day to buy. But expand your area to shop. I live in LA, but got 29% off of a F-150 truck in Portland.  Don't settle for the factory rebate - this dealer gave me a bigger discount than than the factory rebate, and I still  got the rebate.

Go to the Chevy website and search for what you want...also, find a Suburban forum and see who is paying what where...

  7.   Way back when I took my wife to the Jazz festival. She's super into food, and decided once we arrived in Louisiana that she had to eat at C.P.'s. Tried to get a table the first Saturday, and George (r.i.p.) told me it was his second busiest night of the year, but he took my number anyway. Got a call..."you're in luck".  Taking us to our table, they led us through the kitchen, where my wife was blown away at the cleanliness and al the prep going on . By the time we were seated she had already decided she wanted  to return.

Had a cocktail, then crept back to George's dias to plead my case for next Saturday..."Ha! That is my busiest day of the year! Don't hold your breath!"

Next Saturday we got the call at 4 in the afternoon..."be here @ six, we've had a last minute cancellation ".  We weren't close to our room, much less the Palace. Crazy rental car abuse got us there at 6. They led us upstairs, and sat us at the turret table. For some reason, which I don't understand, we were comped 2 rounds of drinks and had free rein on the desert cart later. My first ever bread pudding.  It was a spectacular dinner and a very memorable night.

On arriving home, the new issue of Gourmet  was waiting. On the cover was a picture of the turret table we ate at two nights before. Pretty cool.

Right, we all want justice for Trump.

I was thinking of the humiliation the country would suffer by going 25th

    We could do without that.

We are beyond humiliation as it now stands.... the 25th would be a sign that someone in DC is an American....

  9. Okay - part two of my first Oktoberfest experience - so we get back to the penthouse after the schnapps. My GF at the time was a total babe. My friend , AKA 'Donkey Dong' always wanted to do a 3 way with her, which wasn't going to happen.

Imagine our surprise, and her terror, when he jumps through the window into our room, buck naked, raging hard-on and all.... GF runs to the bathroom and locks her self in. I go to the window to see how he got in the room. There's an 8" wide ledge on the building below the window, 8 stories above the street. Had to go around the corner of the building to get to our window on the ledge . Raging hard-on. Shit faced.

We were kinda drunk. Don't know how he did it.

Jungfrau is my favorite area. I like Wengen more than Grindelwald, less shithead asian tourists.

Yes, Wengen is awesome. I just have an emotional attachment to a hotel in Grindelwald, have been staying there for four decades.

    Room with a familiar view...

We went Prague, Munich, Innsbruck, Liechtenstein, Lucerne, Frankfurt in early June and it was awesome. Prague and Lucerne were my two favorite spots, with Lucerne getting the edge because we got to eat dinner every night overlooking lake Lucerne with the mountains in the distance. Absolutely stunning.

I feel that all of Switzerland is stunning.....so much so, when going back to Europe, I find it hard not to go straight back to Grindelwald.

Good thing you didn't fall into any erdbeerlimes, you might have died.

Had to google it...sounds good, and it couldn't have been any worse than the kerosene like schnapps we had.

Just put strawberries on the shopping list .

    Sparkling water?

Edit: First recipe i saw had water, just re-googled it to see it has sparkling wine...sounds very dangerous..

  13. Garmisch has grown so much it's no longer the cool little village...I hardly recognized it. Go further into the hills to Mittenwald. Very nice little town with plenty of hiking ops.

Oktoberfest - Heading there for the first time, a friend called me from California to say he and his GF were flying into Munich the next day, and told me to get rooms. A tall order. Could only snag a penthouse at considerable expense, 3 night minimum. Typical first timer story - shit faced by early afternoon, but made a strong, possibly chemically induced comeback.  Was disappointed at the early last call, so on the way back to the penthouse stopped at a bar and drank several rounds of apple schnapps, which has little resemblance to the girly stuff available here. Woke up the next day so poisoned from drink, we walked on the remaining two nights in the room, took the train up to Garmisch, checked into a spa and spent the next 24 hours steaming the poisons out...
