  1. Late 60's VW automatic stick shift beetle - 3 speed that you had to shift, BUT......the clutch engaged when you touched the shift knob. My right knee was guilty of some serious over revs. This POS was definitely offset by the 351 ci bronco with the 4 speed, rear locker, 8 shocks and roll cage.
  2. Costco is having a $500 off sale on their 22Kw generac gennys the 6th thru the 10th.
  3. The ironworks face is the 'artisan' upgrade, no? We've bought that to upgrade our unit after we move it. Yeah, that's a lot for a gas unit.
  4. No. It came with the 22 year old house that we bought 2 years ago, so the $6k figure I posted was rather deceiving. I was referring to replacement cost. We're actually going to move it to the next wall over so that it doesn't block our view of the ocean. I don't know where the PNW architects learned their trade, but they've got some interesting ideas...
  5. You might find this hard to believe, but the 911's ride has improved in the last 37 years...
  6. I've got a Fireplace X 36 elite and I love it...about $6K new. As noted above, turn on the HVAC fan and the whole house is warm. The windstorms here provide me with a continuous source of firewood.
  7. What it excels at is being a high speed Grand Tourer. It only makes sense owning one if you live in Germany. If it was a track car it would have a roll bar.
  8. If you are serious about tracking your car, and good enough to go fast, you've got to put a rollbar and harness in to protect you from serious crash. This definitely compromises the usability of said vehicle. Putting or not putting crap into the bed of your truck has no effect on your comfort in the cab.
  9. It is. It's also a sponge that doesn't hold screws well, much less in a vibrating environment.
  10. Looks great! You're going to appreciate the extra 26". Which dealer?
  11. Ahh....this is a rare bird. Mercedes changed from 4WD to AWD because the AWD is the in-house 4matic, and the reason they did was so that they wouldn't be reliant on an outside vendor. But you could on order a '23 AWD for about 6 weeks before they closed the order books on the AWD until fall. meaning the very few AWD's that have been produced are it for the year. The new 2 liter 4 cylinder High Output engine that replaced the 3 liter 6 cylinder has been reported to get great mileage for a large brick.
  12. What did you get? Diesel, gas, 144 or 170, regular or high roof, AWD? I've had mine (144 High roof 4x4) for 54 weeks and haven't got as much done to it as I want (doing it myself) but I'm moving in the right direction. there are a massive amount of decisions to be made such as battery capacity, cooking and cooling options, etc. Sprinter-Source is the go-to forum to begin your immersion. Up here in the PNW builders are still booked at least 6 months out, I''d be wary of using someone who has immediate openings. Also, all things $printer related are stupidly expensive. Congrats!
  13. Currently 42 degrees on the upper Puget sound, 25 degrees warmer than yesterday. I thought my house was well insulated, but learned otherwise when it got below 25. This week of below freezing temps has me looking for a new AWD suv, I'll be going to Sea-Tac in my truck to fetch the BIL and wife.
  14. You love the old one but are / were thinking about trading it? If you love it, replace the tranny and keep it. You might not love the new one. If you're trading it, do a cost / benefit eval on it....my guess is that you'd be better off trading it if it was completely functional.
  15. My wife makes awesome Turkey pot pies with the leftover Thanksgiving bird...they freeze well, and are about as 'comforting' food as you're going to find.
  16. It would be wiser to plan on having a 10' door. 4wd and a fan (not ac) will put you over 9', and many put a roof rack and/or solar up there too.
  17. Crewed motorcycles a long time ago for both the 500 and 1000 with Bel-Ray oil. A hurricane came through one year and wasted the course, causing vehicles to be delayed 10 to 12 hours due to the carnage the storm wreaked on the course. Was total turmoil. At the time our rider was leading the U500 class, but his bike died from dust on Laguna Salada. We were in the extended Dodge Bel-Ray van. Problem was, a lot of teams were using Bel-Ray banners to mark their pits, but after 8 to 10 hours those crews left to get some shut-eye. So we would have these tired, starving riders running on fumes pulling up to the van requesting assistance. We did what we could, but we only had fuel/tires/parts/food for our two riders, so we would go scavenger hunting in the empty/abandoned pits nearby to try to help them out. Interesting trip.
  18. Really weird, left guard didn't move and let the guy through to block the kick, and still didn't move. What he ^ said
  19. Yes , indeed, a Ferrari Daytona. I was at the '71 Le Mans race where a Daytona finished 5th overall running against the 917 Porsches and the Ferrari 512m prototypes. Because it had a V-12 with twice pipes on each side, compared to the prototypes flat 12's you could hear it coming literally a mile away. The thing just bellowed through the forest. Very fond memories. The street car did 90 in first.
  20. i've literally been wearing their stuff for over half a century. Their Stand-up shorts were the only pants that would last more than a couple of weeks climbing the granite walls of Yosemite valley. I went into a serious funk when they decided to end their production, even though I had quit climbing years earlier due to a fall. All of their gear has been functional but they, as well as other companies such as Filson, have leaned more towards expanding their general clothing line as opposed to hard core outdoor gear. I must be really cool, I've got closets of their stuff.
  21. You buy/wear clothes based upon the 'street cred' that they give you?
  22. Freeze them with the skins on. We use ziplocks, as opposed to vacuum sealing, the ice that forms inside from their moisture doesn't affect them. They freeze great. Liquid is trashed. This year, for the first time since I've been buying (10 years?) they enclosed a 'how to safely cool and store your freshly roasted peppers' flyer in the box - 1. It's important to refrigerate roasted peppers within 1 hour of roasting 2. Spread peppers in a shallow container, uncovered, so that they are no more than 2 inches deep 3. Cool to 40 degrees before sealing in containers 4. Enjoy within the next two days - or - transfer to zip-top plastic bags. Squeeze as much air as possible from the bag before sealing and storing in the freeze. Frozen peppers will maintain their quality for up to 6 months. It seems that points one and three are a bit contradictory. I've never followed any of these recommendations, besides removing as much air as possible, and I've never had any issues with freezing them. And they last at least a year...as I said earlier, they freeze great.
