  1. congrats to the rangers. well fought, well earned. enjoy it. see y'all in 2024.
  2. there are times for an and and times for a but and this is a really great time for an and. i spent part of my weekend proofing my nephew's college application essays, and if this dude went to penn, then my nephew is going to mega-harvard.
  3. @shadow_operative is a big fan. and comics who are not former cast members don't often host (in reply to the post before this one). as big as nate has gotten, i was pretty surprised when i saw he was hosting. i guess with the multiple strikes going the past few months, all bets are off. was he ever officially a writer or part of the cast before he got fired? i don't know the story.
  4. yeah, i feel like we're getting farther away from it.
  5. everything netflix touches turns to shit. i remember back in january, they did a full billboard blitz on the sunset strip. basically they had a movie coming out every month with big movie stars in them, and they advertised all 10-15 at once. movies we had never heard of, and we were looking them up, etc. that was their play in 2023 - big movies with big stars. not sure any of them have been worth seeing. the latest one with emily blunt and chris evans is chilling in the low 20's on rt. i know fuck the critics and rt and blah blah, but i don't know one quality piece of content below 35-40% on there. crowdsourcing works.
  6. the best nate special is probably his most recent on prime. the two netflix ones are also solid. there are also a bunch of assorted clips you might find on youtube or on siriusxm comedy channels (that's where i first became a fan). lots of bits i've heard i have no idea what special they belong to or where they came from. here he is with a bit featuring vy:
  7. they don't even do this, they just say this. i could be off base here, but pretty sure turning it into an abbreviation was an attempt to minimize and belittle their nonsense, and likely originated with people like us, who weren't buying their bullshit.
  8. moral lapses at the superbowl. is he talking about the pass interference?
  9. standout performance from john candy as well, stepping outside his usual comfort zone. some great character actors in there as well, especially on garrison's team.
  10. guns don't kill people, cars do.
  11. this guy has a real future in satirical writing.
  12. state and main is a personal favorite and uses a lot of the same people. macy and mamet go way back. another great cast.
  13. we don’t know if he’s crazy.
  14. until the moment he shot somebody, he hadn’t broken the law or even exploited a loophole in the system.
  15. republicans will have to do some research on the shooter before deciding who they're mad at.
  16. nothing we could do, said only country where this routinely happens.
  17. i'm not a comic book movie fanboy by any stretch, but the 8-10 good to great movies (out of like 25 total) that end the story with infinity wars and endgame is fantastic storytelling through film and anyone who says otherwise is a fucking hater and or pretend movie-snob/dork. i understand what you're saying, but in actuality, it's the opposite. the reason there are so many headliners is because they all headlined their own origin story movies, and then the movies started overlapping casts with each other. so yes, is the answer to "roles nobody else could've played". when cumberbatch plays dr strange in a decent movie with a so-so cast, you understand his story and role, and then when his story overlaps with other stories, all the main stars are part of it. those last two movies bring a lot of shit back from literally 12 years of movies, so pretty much everybody in any of those movies appears in the final movie. none of them were cameos, they were all reprising roles they played in previous movies, if that makes sense. it's a lot of time, but like i said, the ~10 movie journey is fucking worth it. pretty remarkable cinematic achievement.
  18. that article was written in june, 2019. since then, scarlett johansson and chadwick boseman became nominees (there might be others). taika (writing) and redford (directing/producing) have oscars as well so i guess 9 is the number all in, just counting speaking roles. the player has bigger numbers, but the cameos were the running gag throughout the movie, so i still think there's an asterisk.
  19. and since nobody is taking my endgame nomination seriously, here is the list: robert downey jr chris evans mark ruffalo chris hemsworth scarlett johansson jeremy renner don cheadle paul rudd benedict cumberbatch brie larson chadwick boseman tom holland zoe saldana evangeline lilly tessa thompson rene russo elizabeth olsen anthony mackie sebastian stan tom hiddleston john slattery tilda swinton jon favreau hayley atwell natalie portman marisa tomei taika waititi angela bassett michael douglas michelle pfeiffer william hurt cobie smulders linda cardellini vin diesel bradley cooper gwyneth paltrow josh brolin chris pratt samuel l jackson ken jeong carrie coon robert redford this isn't really a competition.
