  1. because of fantasy, there are a few teams i regularly follow on gametracker including the padres and braves. remarkably consistent lineups.
  2. lots of shitty hpu experiences this season. maybe i'm just watching too much baseball.
  3. the funny thing about max being first is that hbo basically invented the art of renewing their new shows the day after the pilot aired. as if to say to the world, "we knew this was good when we ordered it, but the response has been so overwhelmingly positive, that we are renewing it at the earliest possible opportunity". lol, bullshit pr tricks. of course hbo stuff used to mostly be quality, so it worked out.
  4. one man's opinion, but not all cancellations are built the same. a show can get cancelled for cost overages, time, reorg of execs, or because the project was badly reviewed/nobody watched. when disco bros was formed, a bunch of stuff got scratched and cancelled so their ranking makes sense. apple+ makes fewer shows, better decisions, casts at a higher level, so their ranking makes sense too. i hadn't noticed netflix getting a rep for cancelling shows. other than mindhunter.
  5. the point he was making, though it was probably accidental, is that the moderate never-trumpers likely view her as the most radical of the radical, because fox news, so it's a non-starter. we've won this exact election before. now we have a better electorate. it wasn't particularly close before, though closer than it should've been all things considered. young people hate trump and the gop. the almost-deads who voted in 2020 are now dead, either from covid or just because that's what old people do. i don't know what the spread is, but i'll take biden -12mm votes.
  6. stand outside the team hotel with a "free yainer" sign and get someone to take your photo. one-man protest. post on twitter. go viral. profit.
  7. i haven't spoken to joe or seen him since february of 2010, right before i left for austin to write the book. he knew i was writing a book but decided to come after me physically at a restaurant/bar where i was with 5 friends and knew the owner very well. he lunged at me and the bouncer literally picked him up and had him on the street before i even knew i was in a fight (i've never been in a real fight). there isn't much ggw chatter since the old nsaa board, and if there is, i'm not involved in it. the lesson learned with the bus lot was an important one, however. because in 2009 we rented an rv and made sure we made it into the correct lot, and had a great time (no joe, obviously). then in 2012, a big group of us rented a tour bus for the ole miss game. we flew to nashville, partied thursday night, the driver scooped us on friday morning and we drove to tunica where we stayed the night at the casino but crashed on the bus and when i woke up we were in the rv lot in oxford, and our group was already outside grilling. that was a long long day (8pm local kick?) of golf-carting to the grove and back, and it was really nice to have an air conditioned bus to charge phones, watch games, bring chicks back to, take naps, etc. if anyone was at that game, you saw texas fans walking to their seats for kickoff looking like they had been through a war. what a weird choice. the key was after the game, we just all crashed in our bunks, and woke up in nashville. hotels in oxford are few and far between, so this was the perfect situation. highly recommend, if you have a bus guy.
  8. ok, a few things. 1. it was a wrapped prevost tour bus. we never had a wrapped rv. it did have dual slide-outs. 2. yes, i was on the bus, i planned that whole trip, because i went to texas and joe went to usc so it was on. i don't really remember mario being on it, but he was around a lot and was generally a decent dude. of course everybody looks like mother teresa when they're hanging out next to joe. it was joe and him (i guess) and me and the chick i was dating (mistake) and about 12 texas chicks who were current students. no idea how they got involved, but they were awesome and young and hot and awesome. 3. the controversy i remember was which lot we were parking in. i got us a pass for the rv lot, but the security guy at the gate directed us to the bus lot, so that's where the driver went. the bus lot, by design, packs the buses in like sardines, and it's almost impossible to get in and out when it's parked. their orders are to get everybody out, then slide the next bus in. the rv lot allows room for people to tailgate and party around the vehicle, which is why i wanted us there. if memory serves, once the driver fucked up, we were stuck in the bus lot, so the only way to party there was to extend, which they don't allow in the bus lot. again, sardines. so maybe we sent mario out to deal with it, and he obviously couldn't. most of the buses in the bus lot were like greyhounds, just straight seats all the way back, when we were more like an apartment inside. 4. anyhow, we partied for a while on our cramped tour bus, then went and found another group and partied with them. then after the game we got back on the bus, and i turned on the postgame, and joe was being such a fucking baby he kept turning it off when all i wanted to do was watch highlights. we all went to some club then eventually back to his house and in the middle of the night went next door to quincy jones' house. i wrote a whole long post on hornfans or whatever, which turned into an email that got forwarded around so many times that eventually joe got it, which was...awkward. i'm sure some people here read it.
  9. poor bastard had to deal with 100+ texas fans and a loud speaker playing texas fight any time we did something.
  10. no, that's not how residuals work. suits and billions also have a habit of reciting movie lines verbatim. so much so that it starts to bother me, and tv/movie quotes are about my favorite thing ever. if i was a character in a show, i would be allowed to quote movies as part of my personality. it's just a character quirk and fair use. it does get annoying when writers have everybody in the show doing it, because that's not realistic to me. i've heard in the past that some producers reached out if something was going to be used in a somewhat controversial way, just as a heads-up. it kinda treads over into the product placement territory. it's hard to pay coca-cola every time you see a can or someone says "i'll have a coke" at a restaurant. but if a plotline was that specifically drinking cokes was making women pregnant with satanic devil zombie babies, you might want to shoot an email to compliance or clearances and see where you stand. re: ted lasso, those movies probably got written about and referenced in a good way on social media or article reviews, so it's good for them, much like an older song being used somewhere.
  11. not running for reelection would also risk undoing his greatest achievement - which would be stopping donald trump. that article makes it seem like we're not sure who the gop candidate will be. hard to trust opinion pieces like that.
  12. i don't see any way they get to the dream team. in fact, i would bet they only involve jordan with a bit of a wink/nod, instead of making him an actual character. and i think that would happen in the mid 80's. i know they've done a great job with casting and capturing the spirit (if not the exact look) of some of these real people, but there's no way they could do that effectively with the dream team. shit, even just casting barkley seems ambitious.
  13. they don't care about trump. they need trump's voters. they're fucked until he dies and then they're still fucked but maybe 10-15% not as fucked. those people will never vote again.
  14. uh... yeah. 11 days ago he said any impeachment inquiry would go to the floor for a vote. he doesn't have the votes. the circus clowns are cashing in their chits.
  15. my head is not in the sand. i am a man of logic and reason. please explain the electoral math to me, including trump's path, and above all, show your work. and while you're doing that - remember that the reason the trumpers are going so hard after biden (and his crime family) is because they know they can't beat him. if this impeachment nonsense goes through, it's going to be an absolute bloodbath from president down to dog-catcher.
  16. the crystal balls are the dumbest thing ever because they never get used the way they were setup to be - predictions. like i don't know, a crystal ball. but since they started tracking performance, most people don't even put in a prediction until the answer is almost a certainty. like when a dude is announcing at 3pm and suddenly at 2:40pm about 6 predictions come in.
  17. this team does as this team plays. the opponent never ever matters. we can sweep the braves on the road or get swept at home by some garbage team like the a's or the yankees. it's always about how we're playing, which is why i try not to look at the schedule. if you told me 6-3 from vs nyy, @bos, @tex and asked what the breakdown was, zero chance i come close on the guesses. as for the padres, it's bizarre. i've watched them a lot because i have several guys in fantasy. they have a few good to great sp. they have a pretty solid lineup, bolstered by a few true superstar talents. they have a top closer. it's a fucking mystery. also i have no knowledge of any clubhouse drama, but culture is a real thing, and i would imagine theirs sucks.
