i know we're reportedly looking for a lefty reliever, but i wonder if we're kicking the tires on eovaldi at all. he could be another 2-3 inning guy, and i bet he gets close to 100mph when coming out of the pen. i bet he'd be cheap too.

well then what am i supposed to do with this brand new internet pitchfork i just bought? it's still in the box.

If Reed, White, and Rodgers will get us Britton, I'm for it. No way in hell I'm giving up Whitley, Tucker, or Alvarez for a possibly broken rental. Any chance the O's would package Britton and Jones?
i could be wrong, but i don't see us making any type of deal for any player under any contract involving whitley or tucker (or likely alvarez), especially just having won a world series. even if it's for a great haul that favors us, i just don't see it happening under this regime. they seem pretty much set on that.
a couple of shitty (mostly minor) deals notwithstanding, i have full trust in our front office to do what's right and not injure the system. just because some other teams are in desperation mode, doesn't mean we'll get caught up in that.

rolling back thru the hg version (office only). started early season 2, now up to s3 premiere.
such a great juxtaposition after they fire burt peterson. they call pete into lane's office. at first he tells his girl, "tell him i'm at lunch" to avoid confrontation. he's nervous and anxious, prefers to stand while hearing the news. acts surprised upon hearing burt has left, and then shocked when he gets promoted to head of accounts. even remarks later to his wife about not asking if it comes with a pay raise.
then ken gets the same call. tells lane he dropped his lunch and grabbed a sandwich. struts into the office, sits, lights a cig, then as he's told about burt, he says, "if that's your news, i think you got scooped" (burt made a big, loud scene after getting axed). then he hears the news he's getting upped, has a strong, confident reaction, then says, "i wouldn't be much of an account man if i didn't ask if it came with a raise in pay."
then of course lane shoots back with, "i wouldn't be much of a financial officer if i wasn't prepared to disappoint you."
ken cosgrove has a great, underrated character arc throughout the show. really glad they brought him back in to the new agency (eventually) and really liked how he treated the potential conflict with his father-in-law (as opposed to how pete handled a similar situation).

or it's a smokescreen and we have other targets.
luhnow doesn't seem to be the type to get burned by the orioles bullshit then go right back to barking up that same tree the following year.

2-3-4 didn't do much this weekend, although springer seems to have found something. maybe coors will flip the switch.

bregman and altuve have been very quiet this weekend.

Yea, that one stretched credibility. I am far more pissed about who she hit with that shot & sincerely hoping it isn't the end it looks to be.
yeah, i thought just hitting the car with no line of sight while it was racing down the street was a stretch. but it appears she somehow scored a killshot thru the car door. nfw.

hopefully heaney doesn't shut our shit down. pretty sure he has before.

i really was enjoying this show, until something that happened last episode that seems like it's going to be a huge plot development.
i get that this israeli chick is supposed to be the ultimate badass, but what are the odds of actually making a shot like she did down the alley? a billion to one? worse?

yeah, i think i'd rather take the bus.
for this whole recurring theme sheridan has that "indians can die/disappear on the res all the time and the white man doesn't care", non-indians seem to be dying a lot so far. guess we'll see if anyone cares.

if my numbers are correct, and i like to think that they are, our staff (including ken giles) now has a season era of 2.90.
for those scoring at home, that's good enough for 9th place in the al, behind two astros, and just ahead of charlie morton (2.96), and behind corey kluber (2.74).

god dammit do we have two days off next week? fucking-a man, what is this, the nba playoffs?

This is a question primarily for henrygandorf since he lives out there and probably has more insight into the mood in LA. Should the Angels blow it up? 1 playoff appearance in the last 9 years. Not at all competitive the last 3 seasons. Middle of the pack farm system. If they become a seller, who would be on the block?
i listen to a decent amount of local radio when i can, and the dodgers occupy 90% of the baseball real estate, possibly more when they're good. but what i can tell you is that the angels will never appear to be "selling" or "blowing anything up" while trout is locked up (2020?). it's a really shitty situation to be this tied up to one guy - not in a long-term contractual way (cabrera, pujols, fielder, etc) but tied into the idea that "we have a generational player and we really need to support him and get him to the playoffs" if at all possible.
the self-proclaimed angels narrative this year is that they have plenty of talent but horrible luck. they've had bad luck with injuries for sure, but the real bad luck is that three historical super-teams happen to be in the same league as them right now (you could add cleveland to the mix too) and none of that is changing anytime soon. it's a bummer to be them right now.

getting guys on base and hitting the ball sharply = two common prerequisites for gidp.

reddick's ability to hit lefties is an underrated and awesome development that's happened in the last couple years.

the yankees would have to (presumably) start severino in the wildcard game, meaning they couldn't start him again til g3 back in new york, in likely his only start of the series. i don't know who they're gonna trade for, but that person (hamels?) likely starts g1/g4. same with sox and sale (if they fall back to the wildcard). kluber/bauer/carrasco/lindor/ramirez/etc are plenty scary, even with the homefield advantage.
finishing 1 would be gigantic.

3-1 count on valbuena. is there any point to stassi even giving verlander a sign? you might as well have crash davis'd it and told him high cheese.

A bit random, but about time those guys lose
Tired of being on pace for 105 wins and still 4.5 games behind those guysif things hold, it's really all about finishing ahead of cleveland - that has been established. but obviously finishing with the #1 seed and allowing you to face the wildcard game winner in a short series with their ace having pitched the day before is greatly preferred. i keep an eye on boston and nyy every day.

fiers doing work today.

i also heard last night that he's been tougher on righties than on lefties this year, but i'm too lazy to go dig up his splits.
