  1. Ok yeah, the county approving the additional cabins to be built IN THE FLOODWAY in the 2019 expansion is a problem. Mystic and their insurers are going to have a bad time in litigation with that fact
  2. Thank you for posting a good source on this - I've read it in commentary but hadn't had a good visual from a trustworthy source to show it. That's going to be a big problem for Mystic that they had camper cabins in the floodway of the most dangerous flooding alley in America. I do think the ultimate failure is in no warnings or word (seemingly) reaching the camp, since nobody else got a warning until it was too late too. I really hope that different decisions will be made this time around to prioritize safety.
  3. Strong stuff from this writer, makes a very good case for Roberts being a worse Chief Justice than even Taney or Fuller https://www.publicnotice.co/p/john-roberts-worst-chief-justice-of-all-time closing paragraphs are basically the thesis
  4. From everything we've seen so far, the county wasn't even sending out weather alerts to just their local residents until 5AM through their codeRED alerting system (per NYT reporting and ABC reporting), and many resident didn't actually recieve the flood alert until 10AM on July 4. I really do fear that the campers, counselors, and camp are victims of the state and local leadership's negligence.
  5. "land owner wants cheap labor to do his hard work for his farm, news at 11" I'll bet he's first in line requesting slave prisoner workers
  6. Yeah yeah yeah delays to getting notices and resources out there. BUT BAW GAWD THERES A BLUE ALERT 200 MILES AWAY!!! Really really wonderful reminder of the states priorities
  7. It really has had more than it's fair share of gremlins https://www.nbcnews.com/business/business-news/boeing-investigates-quality-problem-undelivered-787s-sources-say-rcna157034 This is just one of the more recent quality control issues with the airframe production
  8. On that note, at least suppressors may finally come off the NFA. It would make range trips and hunting much more pleasant
  9. You are doing the exact same schtick as the mayor of Kerrville is by shaking your finger and say "SHAME ON YOU" to shout down anyone you see as opposition and smaller than you. But its your board, so ultimately you're right and I'm wrong and we're gonna do it your way.
  10. And if the rules are "facts are for the Cloak Room" then ok cool, let's just be fucking honest and not lie to ourselves.
  11. This is exactly why I disagree with imma's assertion that he doesn't "control the message, [he] doesn't shape the threads". He absofuckinglutely does. He rolled out the red carpet for Pronghorn to blast racist disinformation and known foreign agitprop as a news source, and then the mods swung their dicks around on anyone who points that out. Because "nobody cares if it's lies, it's not against the rules to be an idiot". Yeah, TOTALLY not shaping the narrative or controlling the message to say that they are above reproach and their dogshit and frequently recanted sourcing doesn't smell like shit. It's very literally creating a safe space for disinformation and those who want to disseminate it. And look, I understand that it would just be easier if we like all got along man. But that requires a common set of facts and a single reality. And the way DT is ran, you can simply cry "CR!!!" to paper over any factual vacancies you might have pointed out to you.
  12. Now imagine this happening at the executive level at pretty much every big enterprise. Hey, at least it means more job security for me when everything breaks and they need someone to untangle their mess that they lack the comprehension to even describe, much less optimize
  13. And it remains to be fully explained what exactly Kerr County did in response to the flash flood watch and warning alerts sent out by NWS, you're absolutely right that the camp itself may be victim of the county's negligence in all of this. But Mystic was also the folks operating a camp in the most flood prone area of the country during flash flood conditions, with nobody standing watch for hundreds of souls. Who knows if their emergency planning even had a watch stander, or if one is even required by the State? More questions to be ignored and shouted down with accusations of politicizing things, I guess.
  14. I've talked to folks at a bar who have said shit like "I didn't like my doctors opinion, so I fed my x-ray to grok and it diagnosed me" and thought that was a totally normal and smart thing to do. There's millions of people just signing over their executive function to a large language model because critical thinking is hard. They are so incredibly vulnerable to the sort of mental tuning that musk and zuck excel at with their algorithmically driven platforms and LLM-driven assistants
  15. The issue I have here is that the State kept no records as copy of the evac plan. They were all on-site and likely destroyed in the flood. So there isn't really an authoritative record of their plan that was approved aside from "trust me, bro" I have a hard time believing that the plan was acceptable, given the empirical outcome of its execution. And yet, expressing that opinion is somehow political in the eyes of the overlords.
  16. The imma crash out last night was legendary. Facts are political on Surly now. Or at least, facts that make conservatives no longer comfortable with keeping their heads happily in the sand are political. He claims to not dictate conversation, and here he is again building a fucking safe space so they can avoid the ugly truth of how badly their history of (R) votes failed hundreds of Texans on July 4th weekend in Kerrville. Fucking ridiculous that facts and investigative reporting are considered CR by the aggy in chief. It's giving cover to "it could have been worse" and preemptively justifying doing nothing to prevent future deaths. But goddamnit, they can post as much racist hate filled immigrants ragebait as they want in DT!
  17. [County]Well, I'm sure the local taxpayers were all fine and knew what to do. Fuck them tourists! [/commissioner]
  18. I'm not claiming you did! Show me my words where I said that. You said: So I read that as you threatening to memory hole more shit in a "I'll fuckin do it again" way. Apologies for misreading that. And dude. You kidding me? It was more having a laugh at how pitch perfect the critique is and how good Lucas' vision was 50 years ago. You do know that Star Wars ('77) was modeled after the Vietnam War, right? The rebels were modeled after the VC, and America was the Empire. George Lucas himself said Star Wars is supposed to be anti-colonial https://screenrant.com/star-wars-george-lucas-vietnam-war-inspiration-explainer/ That's pretty explicit and direct from the creator. Edit: Well, I'm not sure why you're taking slorch's word for my posts in the Andor thread. He's characterizing me as some zealot in the thread (and I'm pretty sure he just plain doesn't like me). I'm not. I'm contributing to the discussion and talking about the show and what's on screen. Go read it for yourself since you have such a strong opinion.
  19. You're setting a standard here that objective facts like meeting minutes that explicitly say WHY a critical warning was not delivered and reporting from the Associated Press is verboten outside of the Cloak Room? I don't disagree with a news thread being a news thread, but I don't see how what I'm posting there is anything but news. Yeah, it's pretty much all shitty news. Don't shoot the messenger.
  20. I'm literally getting better news updates from the CR thread. DT is great if you want more updates from Facebook posts and Mystic text chains. The transcripts and meeting minutes? The fact that the State of Texas had just validated their emergency planning two days prior? It's not that they're being an idiot, it's that they're politicizing the tragedy by refusing to look at the fucking causes for hundreds of people getting killed in the most flood prone valley in America. You're setting the Overton window at the point where asking "why our government approved a plan that gave zero warning to a camp full of children" is """PoLiTiCaL""". For real?
  21. Pretty shocking find from AP:
  22. Lol I thought the board was broken from so many posts disappearing so I posted in the borked thread, and he deleted that too! Classico
  23. wow-eeeeeee crashing out via your large language model is a pretty impressive feat
  24. https://variety.com/2025/film/news/dune-3-title-imax-cameras-1236448953/ "Dune: Part 3", not Dune Messiah as previously thought. Still gonna be shot for IMAX though which will be allsome. What a wonderful time for a cautionary tale about messianic leaders backed by religious extremists
